Saif Ali Khan's Alleged Attacker Seeks Bail, Claims Charges Are Fabricated

A few months ago, Saif Ali Khan was the victim of a knife attack by an unknown person who later on got arrested by the Police. Accused Shariful Islam Shehzad was taken into custody in January of this year for an alleged assault on Saif Ali Khan, has now sought release on bail. According to India Today, he has submitted a bail request to the Mumbai Sessions Court, asserting that the charges against him are entirely fabricated.

“The FIR is patently false and a false case has been registered against him," his plea read. Shehzad's legal representative also argued that his client has been fully cooperative with the authorities and asserted that there is no possibility of him interfering with any evidence, even if he is granted bail.

The bail application further argued that Islam's continued imprisonment serves no purpose beyond pre-trial punishment.

The applicant has cooperated with the investigation. Therefore, no useful purpose will be served by detaining him further in custody, save and except pre-trial punishment

In an incident that shocked the nation, Saif Ali Khan was stabbed by an intruder at his Mumbai home in the early hours of January 16th. Reports indicate that around 2 AM, the actor was alerted to commotion when one of his female employees was assaulted in his son Jeh's room. Saif intervened, leading to a confrontation with the assailant, during which both Saif and the employee were injured.

Islam has been accused of unlawfully entering Saif Ali Khan's Mumbai residence with the intention of theft. He is also alleged to have assaulted the actor and his staff member using a wooden weapon and a sharp blade.

Saif Ali Khan sustained six stab wounds during the robbery and was immediately taken to the hospital. He was discharged on January 21st.
