Review: The Adam Project is more an amalgamation of emotions and less time travel but we aren't complaining

((***1/2 (3.5/5)) The Adam Project is a family entertainer, and much like the genres that Netflix puts them in, this is a feel good, witty film, and has less to do with time travel, as many might want.

The Adam Project

Directed by Shawn Levy, The Adam Project is written by Jonathan Tropper, T.S. Nowlin, Jennifer Flackett and Mark Levin, and produced by David Ellison, Dana Goldberg, Don Granger, Shawn Levy, Ryan Reynolds. The movie boasts of an interesting cast with Ryan Reynolds, Mark Ruffalo, Jennifer Garner, Walker Scobell, with Catherine Keener and Zoe Saldaña.

It narrates the tale of Adam Reed, a time-traveling pilot, who teams up with his younger self and his late father to come to terms with his past while saving the future

But the questions that rise here is how can you save the future without facing your past? Well, The Adam Project assured you a joyous time travel adventure. The movie is slated for a release on Netflix on March 11.

Performances

Both the Adams in the movie, Ryan as well as the younger Adam, played by Walker, have definitely embraced their roles with utmost grace. While Ryan pulls off the role much like its his second skin, Walker is a vibe in the movie, to say the least. Together, their moments are one to cherish and they take you through a rollercoaster of emotions.

The Adam Project

Ryan is a visual treat and it is safe to say that his character is well written, with all that there is to his story with the family, the wife, and of course, time travel, there are an array of things to explore. He gives you plenty of bittersweet moments and you love love his character. Young Adam i.e. Walker, is also an absolute star throughout the movie and we love how he is sassy and at the same time, also emotional. His character is also beautifully written and the bonds that he shares with the mother, older Adam, and his father, is equally worthy.

Mark as Adam's father, is an equal star, and he truly needs no introduction. His role is brief, but it tugs at your heart and on other times, the trio manages to impress you and how. Meanwhile, Jennifer as Ellie has also gotten her role right and every character in the movie, does take you through a couple of emotions. Catherine and Zoe, on the other hand, also play their parts just fine, adding material to to the movie.

The Good

While the movie's cast is absolutely amazing, The Adam Project also boasts of amazing storytelling and writing, and due credits to them. The emotions that the movie constantly churn out is worth every minute of the movie, and it is only for those who sign up for that. The movie does get all the cinematic tropes right, and its a bummer that we have to watch it on the laptops/phones, and don't get to see it on the big screens.

This movie is a family entertainer, and much like the genres that Netflix puts them in, this is a feel good, witty film, and has less to do with time travel, or sci-fi than one would want. However, the feel good factor more than makes up for it and we are glad to have gotten the chance to watch it.

The Not So Good

The Adam Project

How the film puts together so many emotions is in fact, great, but those who head into the movie hoping for something specific to this genre, might feel disappointed. Also, can we complain a little about wanting more of Garner and Ruffalo together, and also, Ruffalo alone? They don't have enough scenes together but the 13 Going On 30 reunion is a happy watch, even though its short.

Verdict

The Adam Project

The Adam Project is a great family entertainer and it makes you smile, cry, laugh, and so much more, all at once and when you feel those emotions, you just about know that this movie, the makers, and every single actor has their heart at the right place. The movie is a a beautiful beautiful hug on a bad day, and if you are looking at watching a movie to take you on a roller coaster of emotions, this will be it.
