Review: 'Crew' takes you on a frivolous and frolic flight with a witty Tabu, sassy Kareena and charming Kriti

'Crew' is out and out example of a well-done genre defining women-centric film that unleashes unabashed madness, drama, entertainment and sassy badass acting by Tabu, Kareena Kapoor and Kriti Sanon.

Firstly, we are here waiting Farhan Akhtar, but while you embark on the creation of ''Jee Le Zaraa'' to celebrate female bonds with a cream ensemble cast, we'vewe've unearthed another trio ready to match the excitement with Tabu, Kareena Kapoor, and Kriti Sanon forming a dream team in ''Crew''. Nearly half a decade has passed since Rhea Kapoor and Ekta Kapoor collaborated on the female-centric hit ''Veere Di Wedding,'' followed by ''Thank You For Coming'' just last year. And it looks like this third time is a charm, and they've struck gold ''quite literally'' without relying on the usual tropes of loud feminism, wild parties or sex. With three glamorous and sassy air hostesses involved in a thrilling heist, this flight seems to be unforgettable, and having had the chance to watch this film, this is what I feel about it.

Non stop entertainment and madness

Prepare yourself for a joyous and exhilarating journey as soon as the leading ladies grace the screen. Without taking much time, the film takes off with its unabashed madness and entertainment, leaving you engaged from the first few minutes. Geeta(Tabu), Jasmine(Kareena Kapoor) and Divya(Kriti Sanon),the air hostesses of Kohinoor Airlines run by Vijay Walia(Saswata Chatterjee), comes from middle-class backgrounds fighting the everyday struggles of the capitalist society. These air hostesses dare to dream big when fate leads them into the thrilling world of a heist as they navigate the allure of luxury and the clash of values.

Not the regular feminism shizz

Makers aim to deliver a delightful, comedic experience filled with witty one-liners and local slang that most of the time land. The film's focus remains steadfast on the entertaining heist, steering clear of romantic entanglements, feminist agendas, or empowerment narratives. Instead, it delves into the lighthearted yet meaningful exploration of ambition and camaraderie, weaving a tale that is both engaging and sensible as it unfolds before your eyes.

Bebo is back and how

While the writing, screenplay, comic-timing and other things come into play, this film belongs to the actors and amongst them, Kareena Kapoor eats them all. With her commanding presence, she eclipses the rest, offering a delectable taste of ''Bebo'' – bold, effortless, breathtaking and OG. Each moment she graces the screen, the question lingers: how can she be a mother of two? As Jasmine, she embodies ferocity, ambition, and a willingness to bend the rules for her own gain. She is the very essence of style and sass and she is the 'sona sona' of this film.

Other Performances

Tabu as Geeta ventures into uncharted territory, unveiling a fresh and witty side which comes off quite well. While some may find the dramatization of her character a tad excessive, it's Tabu – and she effortlessly masters every role she undertakes.

Kriti Sanon, portraying Divya, brings her usual charm and glamour to the screen, albeit without introducing anything particularly novel to her repertoire. While it may not be her standout performance, she adds depth to the narrative and enhances the camaraderie among the crew, standing strong amongst stalwarts like Kareena and Tabu. The chemistry between these leading ladies surpasses many hero-heroine pairings we've seen, with their banter infusing the atmosphere with lively entertainment.

Regrettably and Ironically, Kapil Sharma and Diljit Dosanjh find themselves in roles devoid of the comedic elements for which they are renowned.

Loopholes not so worrisome

It's the subtle details, like a character introduced early on who later ties up a subplot, that elevate the direction and storytelling. Sure, your critical mind may nitpick, questioning how Divya maintains her chic appearance while dealing with a hefty loan, or how Jasmine can afford to tip a gate worker but struggles to pay her rent and the likes of these. Yet, in the grand scheme of things, loopholes don't count.

The Verdict

At the end 'Crew' is out and out example of a well-done genre defining women-centric film that unleashes unabashed madness, drama, entertainment and sassy badass acting by Tabu, Kareena Kapoor and Kriti Sanon.
