Prassthanam review: A totally twisted drama that pulls you into the violent abyss!

Prassthanam revolves around the fight for a rightful heir for 'the seat'. This contemporary political drama is about Baldev Pratap Singh's (Sanjay Dutt's) political career.

Prassthanam is a successful Hindi remake of a Telugu film Prasthanam (2010) which is written and directed by Deva Katta. The film has some of the most horrifying action sequences and it's totally evident, as the director has tried to pour his heart and soul into the making of this film. It is written excellence which has a few loopholes but they could never overshadow this film. All thanks to Sanjay Dutt and Jackie Shroff’s performance. The two have brought the film to a proportion. 

Prassthanam only focuses on bloodshed and hunger for ‘the seat’. It is violent and barbaric take for a simple mission, however, this isn't as simple as it looks. Prassthanam is totally twisted right to its foundation and it is the scripting that helps to conceive the piece. The written excellence can be witnessed with every passing second as the characters tend to play mind-games over you as well. The director has managed to define each and every character which narrates the eternal conflicts of his own. While Sanjay Dutt can be seen trying to defend the rightful heir to his throne, Ali Fazal is trying to find his own origins and fight his father’s egoistic desires.

The film lacks on the basis of technicalities, but the background used for each and every sequence is worth watching. The art director might have been over the board adding few extra elements to show-off Baldev Pratap Singh’s riches. But it definitely wasn't a failure. Throughout the film, all you try to focus on is the performances.

No wonder, Sanjay Dutt and Jackie Shroff were suitable candidates for dreadful characters respectively, but guess what! You could see the pain and dread in their eyes. Meanwhile, Ali Fazal has also matched their shoulders which makes him equally entertaining and twisted. 

Considering Chunky Pandey, the actor’s performance was a total disaster in his previous film although he has upscaled his performance which is quite digestible to munch until the last piece. Apart from him Satyajeet Dubey and Manisha Koirala offered quite the acceptable performance from their part but the 49-year-old actress had hardly any screen time. 

In conclusion, the film is heavily stereotyped and we have already consumed similar films, but what's notable is the performances. If you wish to enjoy Sanjay Dutt’s gangster/politician persona with Jackie Shroff’s rebel charisma, with Ali Fazal’s action excellence the film is a perfect choice for your weekend. Remove all the stereotypical drama and the unnecessary songs; now all that you’ll see is a classic!

Please note that this film definitely requires parental guidance but, if you despise bloodshed and the plot which revolves around hunger for revenge this film is clearly not for you.
