Pilot of Chuck Lorre's 'United States of Al' Casts Adhir Kalyan in Lead Role

It is a multi-camera comedy about the friendship between Riley, a Marine combat veteran struggling to readjust to civilian life in Ohio, and Awalmir (Kalyan), also known as Al, the interpreter who served with his unit in Afghanistan and has just arrived to start a new life in America.

Sitcom king, Chuck Lorre is all set to present yet another show to his long list of comedies that will be presented and that one is called the United States of Al. Lorre recently presented Bob Heats Abishola, which did not open to immense critical acclaim but is still fetching good numbers. And now, it has been confirmed that the show has roped in its lead in the form of Adhir Kalyan.

It is a multi-camera comedy about the friendship between Riley, a Marine combat veteran struggling to readjust to civilian life in Ohio, and Awalmir (Kalyan), also known as Al, the interpreter who served with his unit in Afghanistan and has just arrived to start a new life in America.

Apart from Lorre, the show is presented by The Big Bang Theory executive producers, David Goetsh and Maria Ferrari. Religious studies scholar Reza Aslan and Mahyad Tousi will also executive produce. Warner Bros Television, where Lorre is under an overall deal, will produce.
