Office-bearer alleges Rs.2.1 mn scam in film body

Chennai, July 10 (IANS) The Madras High Court Thursday heard a petition alleging misappropriation of Rs.2.1 million from a film organisation and appointed a receiver to oversee its functioning Thursday.

Chennai, July 10 (IANS) The Madras High Court Thursday heard a petition alleging misappropriation of Rs.2.1 million from a film organisation and appointed a receiver to oversee its functioning Thursday.

The petition was filed by the Chennai-Kanchipuram- Tiruvallur Film Distributors' Association vice-president S. Anandan alleging wrongdoing on the part of president K. Shekharan.

'At least Rs.2.1 million are missing from the bank account and even basic bills were not paid by the richest distributors' association in Tamil Nadu,' Anandan told reporters.

'Payments for rents of the office, telephone and electricity bills have been released by the receiver,' Anandan told reporters.

According to industry sources - at least Rs.2 billion rupees worth of business is done in the three districts every month.
