Karisma Kapoor’s father was against her marriage with Sunjay Kapur: 'Third class man.. the entire Delhi know…'

Initially engaged to Abhishek Bachchan in 2002, Karisma Kapoor was expected to join the Bachchan family. However, their very public engagement dissolved within months. In 2003, Karisma married Delhi-based industrialist Sunjay Kapur. Unfortunately, the marriage didn't last, leading to a difficult and extended legal dispute.

Despite having two children together, their divorce, finalized in 2016, drew significant media attention due to the serious accusations made. Karisma accused Sunjay of domestic abuse, while Sunjay claimed she had married him for financial gain.

Karisma's father, veteran actor Randhir Kapoor, had consistently voiced his disapproval of the marriage. In a 2016 interview with Hindustan Times, Randhir strongly criticized Sunjay, stating, “Sunjay is a third-class man… Everyone knows our ­credentials. We are Kapoors. We don’t need to run after anyone’s money. We have been blessed with not only money, but our talent can support us for the rest of our lives."

Randhir also mentioned that he had been against the match from the start, saying, “I never wanted Karisma marrying him. He never cared for his wife. He has been giving bull**** to her and living with another woman. The entire Delhi knows how he is. I would not like to say anything more than this."

As of his passing on June 12, 2025, Sunjay Kapur's estimated net worth was $1.2 billion (around Rs 10,300 crore), as reported by Forbes. He was recognized as one of the World’s Billionaires in 2022. His company, Sona Comstar, based in Gurugram, operates 12 manufacturing units and employs over 5,000 people across various countries. The company experienced substantial growth, fueled by the global electric vehicle (EV) boom.

Industrialist Sunjay Kapur died on June 12 in England at the age of 53. Sources report that Kapur suffered a fatal heart attack while engaged in a game of polo. At the time of his passing, he was married to entrepreneur Priya Sachdev.

Sunjay Kapur, who married Karisma Kapoor in 2003, had two children, Samaira and Kiaan, with her. They separated in 2014 and divorced in 2016. In 2017, he married model Priya Sachdev and had a son, Azarias, while also co-parenting Priya’s daughter from a previous marriage.

Moments before his unexpected death, Sunjay had used X (formerly Twitter) to offer his condolences to the victims of the Air India crash in Ahmedabad, writing, “Terrible news of the tragic Air India crash in Ahmedabad… May they find strength in this difficult hour."
