Karisma Kapoor’s daughter Samaira told the Delhi High Court that her university fees in the United States have remained unpaid for two months. The remark came during a tense hearing on Friday, prompting the bench to urge both sides to avoid turning the matter into a spectacle. Justice Jyoti Singh made it clear that such personal issues should ideally be settled privately rather than being brought to court again.
The case is part of a larger dispute involving Samaira and her younger brother, who are questioning the validity of their late father Sunjay Kapur’s will. The estate in question is massive, with assets estimated to be worth nearly Rs 30,000 crore. The children have argued that the existing arrangements are unfair and that their educational and personal expenses are not being met as per the original matrimonial decree.
Senior advocate Mahesh Jethmalani, representing the two siblings, told the court that Sunjay Kapur had been legally bound to cover the children’s education and other costs. According to him, the estate is currently handled by Priya Kapur, Sunjay’s widow, yet Samaira’s dues have allegedly gone unpaid for two months. He added that such lapses only deepen the children’s concerns about the management of their father’s assets.
Priya Kapur’s legal team pushed back firmly. Senior advocate Rajiv Nayar called the allegations untrue and claimed that all payments, including university fees, had been cleared. He said Priya has been fulfilling every responsibility and argued that the claims were being brought up only to draw public attention. He also pointed out that the children already receive significant financial support under the family’s trust.
Inside court, the tension between the two sides was evident. The siblings have earlier referred to Priya as a Cinderella stepmother and accused her of putting her own interests first. Priya, in response, has maintained that the accusations are unfair and that the children have already been given Rs 1,900 crore from the family trust.
The court also heard arguments related to an interim injunction filed by the siblings. They have asked that Priya be prevented from selling or dealing with any of Sunjay’s assets until the will dispute is resolved. Justice Singh has scheduled the next round of arguments for next week. The court has already directed Priya to submit a complete list of the late industrialist’s assets, keeping the high-stakes family battle under close scrutiny.
