The artist formerly known as Kanye West, now appears to have updated his name again. Recent California business filings, obtained by Page Six, indicate that Ye’s CFO, Hussain Lalani, submitted documents listing the rapper as “Ye Ye."
Ye has yet to publicly comment on the name change. On June 1st, the rapper signaled a further shift in his online presentation. Posting on X, he said: “Ima finally stop using the @kanyewest twitter cause my name is Ye. Gonna start a ye account and it is what it is".
Kanye West has long emphasized the importance of shedding his birth name. In 2018, he posted: “the being formally known as Kanye West. I am YE".
In 2018, he released an album titled "Ye," recorded in Wyoming, and legally changed his name in 2021 for "personal reasons." This change is now fundamental to his public and professional identity, with his chief of staff, Milo Yiannopoulos, advocating for the consistent use of "Ye" in media and industry communications as of March 2024.
“Ye is one of the most recognizable people in the world, on par with presidents and popes. He didn’t take the decision to change his name, potentially sacrificing some of the immense value captured by the brand of ‘Kanye West,’ lightly. The change was made fully, legally, and permanently. This is who he is now. His name is Ye," Yiannopoulos said.
Kanye West, also known as Ye, is a global icon in hip-hop and rap. From his early soul-infused work on "The College Dropout" to the refined anthems of "Graduation" and the experimental sound of "Yeezus," he has continually evolved his musical style. With 24 Grammy Awards, Ye is recognized as one of rap's most innovative and influential figures.
