Randeep Hooda and Sunny Deol starrer Jaat has run into serious controversy just days after its theatrical release on April 10. The Christian community has strongly objected to a particular scene in the film, which they claim has hurt their religious sentiments.

In the scene, Randeep Hooda is shown standing inside a church, beneath a crucifix that is placed right above the holy pulpit. This visual, combined with a violent reference shown in the trailer, has angered several members of the Christian faith. “This scene has deeply hurt our sentiments. The sacredness of the church, especially the pulpit, should not be misused like this,” said one protestor.

Videos of the protestors chanting “Randeep Hooda murdabad” have surfaced on social media. They believe the scene is a clear disrespect to their religious space and have demanded that the movie be banned. Another protestor added, “This is not just about a movie, it is about respecting every religion equally.”

Initially, community members had planned to protest outside theatres screening the film. However, due to police intervention, the protests were stopped. Later, the representatives submitted a formal complaint to the Joint Commissioner. In their memorandum, they demanded that the film be removed from cinemas and asked for legal action against the actors and crew. They have also issued a 48-hour ultimatum, warning of mass protests if action is not taken.

The controversial scene is a part of the film’s trailer, which also shows people praying in the church before the violence erupts. The protestors have pointed out that mixing such visuals with religious imagery is highly disrespectful and misleading.

Directed by the makers of Mythri Movie Makers and People Media Factory, Jaat stars Sunny Deol as a mysterious man who arrives in a village in Chirala, Andhra Pradesh. He stands up against oppression led by Ranatunga (played by Randeep Hooda) and his wife Bharathi (played by Regena Cassandra). The film features an ensemble cast including Saiyami Kher, Jagapathi Babu, Ramya Krishnan, and Zarina Wahab.

Despite the controversy, the film has performed well at the box office. As per Sacnilk reports, it has crossed ?53.50 crore within the first week of its release. However, with the current unrest, its future run in theatres may be affected.
