Imtiaz Ali on Shahid & Kareena’s IIFA Reunion: ‘I Find It Very Interesting that Shahid and Kareena Met

Filmmaker Imtiaz Ali recently shared his thoughts on the sudden buzz around his 2007 romantic classic, Jab We Met. The reason? Shahid Kapoor and Kareena Kapoor Khan sharing the stage at the IIFA press conference in Jaipur. Their appearance together, though brief, sent fans into a nostalgic frenzy, with many hoping for a sequel to the beloved film.

Talking about this unexpected excitement, Imtiaz said, “Actually, I find it very interesting that Shahid and Kareena met up at IIFA, and now people are talking to me about Jab We Met. Shahid has said that he thinks I have moved on, but I think that everybody has moved on. It's been a long time since Jab We Met.”

The film, which beautifully captured the love story of the heartbroken Aditya and the free-spirited Geet, still holds a special place in audiences’ hearts. With the renewed interest in the movie, fans are eager for a sequel. However, Imtiaz isn’t keen on making one. “I think we should savour that and not spoil it by coming up with a sequel at all,” he stated.

When asked if he is planning another movie with Shahid and Kareena, the director clarified, “I’m not really planning a movie with them per se, but it’s great that they met. They’re both fantastic actors. I obviously had the greatest time working with them.”

Imtiaz was speaking at the red carpet of the I View World Film Festival, where his anthology My Melbourne was screened. He directed a segment titled Jules, which explores an unexpected friendship between a newlywed food blogger and a homeless woman in Melbourne. The film is set to release on March 14, on the occasion of Holi.

The festival, organized by Engendered, a trans-national arts and human rights organization, is taking place at Travancore Palace and will run until March 16. Fans may have to wait for another Shahid-Kareena collaboration, but Jab We Met remains timeless in their hearts.
