Did You Know Bobby Deol Tried 'Really Hard' for THIS Imtiaz Ali Famous Rom-Com?

Bobby Deol has finally spoken about a film very close to his heart — Jab We Met. The movie became one of the most iconic romantic films in Bollywood, loved for Shahid Kapoor and Kareena Kapoor’s chemistry. But what many don’t know is that Bobby Deol played a major role in starting this project and was supposed to star in it himself.

In a recent chat with Instant Bollywood, Bobby shared his emotional journey with the film. He revealed that he discovered director Imtiaz Ali while watching the rushes of Socha Na Tha, which had his cousin Abhay Deol. Bobby was impressed by Imtiaz’s storytelling and asked him to write a script for him. That script later became Jab We Met. “I tried really hard to make that film happen; I reached out to a lot of people,” Bobby said honestly. He even convinced Shree Ashtavinayak Cine Vision, a production house, to support the film. Back then, Imtiaz Ali was still new, but Bobby believed in his talent.

Bobby also approached Kareena Kapoor to play the female lead. At first, she wasn’t interested. Later, Preity Zinta was also considered, but she turned it down. Eventually, Kareena agreed to do the film — but by then, things had changed. Bobby was no longer a part of the project, and Shahid Kapoor was cast as the male lead. “It can be tough in the industry; I was really upset about it at the time,” Bobby said with honesty. He admitted feeling heartbroken but didn’t hold any grudge against Imtiaz Ali. He understood that the director had to take a tough call for the film’s success.

While Shahid and Kareena’s performances were loved and the movie became a superhit, Bobby’s emotional connection with the film still remains.

On the work front, Bobby was recently seen in Daaku Maharaj with Nandamuri Balakrishna. He will next appear in Hari Hara Veera Mallu: Part 1 – Sword vs Spirit, with stars like Pawan Kalyan, Nora Fatehi, and Nargis Fakhri. He’s also part of the YRF Spy Universe film Alpha alongside Alia Bhatt and Sharvari. Moreover, Bobby will be seen in Thalapathy Vijay’s upcoming film Jana Nayagan.
