"I feel a youth based show is a great platform for a newbie actor." - Himani Sahni

Having shared screen space with celebrated television personalities like Kapil Sharma among others the pretty Himani Sahni will now be seen in Channel V's Mastaangi as Anaita - a stubborn, vengeful, dominating, control freak and a super intelligent student.

In a tete-a-tete with Tellybuzz, let's hear what the actor has to say about her debut with Mastaangi.

The character I am playing is Anaita. She is a go-getter and a very transparent girl. She isn't one of those, who fake around. If she doesn't like something, she will tell it. She is among those who will just think about herself first and her loved ones and can go to any extent to be a good friend to another friend and a good daughter to her mother.

I have done TV commercials, like OLX with Kapil Sharma, Maybelline, Samsung and other good ones. I have also been a part of a couple of songs for Punjabi movies which were huge hits and have crossed over 50-80 lakh views on Youtube. Hence, I have a good amount of fans from Punjab. In terms of a full-fledged acting role, this is my first project.

First of all, it's a youth based show, unlike any other show. I respect all the other shows. But I feel, youth based show is something to start with and it will be the best. If I go for any other normal drama show, then it becomes difficult to come back to play a character in a youth show. If you start with a youth show, you will get more youth shows in future and even other kind of shows too, if you perform well. This show is colorful, vibrant and peppy along with a great story-line. So, I don't think I have any doubts with my choice right now, hence I chose this show.

Yes, an episodic show of a distinguished genre would be fun to work in. As an actor, I really want to grow a lot. I don't want to be amongst those being stuck with one role for four-five years. I would love it, but as I said, I want to grow a lot as an actor and have different shades in the character. So anything with a good story-line would interest me a lot.

I absolutely think so. As I said, firstly, it's a youth based show, so I don't have to act much. I just have to be as real as possible. As the dialogues and emotions that the characters in such shows go through, are very normal and similar to our real lives. Especially youth jargons like 'dude' etc., so I am not really 'acting' in the complete sense. 

But at the same time, I can be natural and it becomes the best way to portray the acting part also. So it's a perfect balance, as I am saying and feeling stuff like my day-to-day life, but along with that, as you must be aware it's a reincarnation drama show, so I doing stuff I never imagined. Like, at times I am the patient one and sometimes I become the possessive lover. To top it all, I have got to work with great co-actors and directors who are helping me out and giving me my space. I am able to exploit my creativity as well, as there is no one telling me what to do and the way to do. They explain the situation and give me my space to work on. So, it's a total win-win situation. 

In one particular show, I am able to explore so many shades, what else would an actor want! If one wants to approach me for a show, he/she will be watching my work in this and will be able to see a complete cycle, as everything is totally there.

I do believe that. First of all, this is my first show as you know. But I have luckily done good work with good people so far. Like I said, I worked with Kapil and then I did a song with Badshah, the rapper - the best in the country. So gradually the niche audience already knows me. So with this show, I am just adding to my profile. 

People have seen me in commercials, songs and are now seeing me as an actress. I am getting hundreds of mails, messages on Instagram and other social websites, hence I feel I am getting a lot of love and acceptance from the audience.
