I am not used to being reviewed so well - Karan Johar on 'RRKPK' receiving critical acclaim

Basking in the continued success of Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahaani (RRKPK), filmmaker Karan Johar actually went on to be rather quiet about everything related to the film so far. Usually known to be vocal on all fronts, Johar was almost absent from all the promotional material being put out and even the city tours that Ranveer Singh and Alia Bhatt embarked upon before release.

But now that the film has received immense love from both the critics and audiences, he finally sat down and got candid about everything related to the film and the result of it.

One of the key factors for Johar as a filmmaker that has been a constant is how he has never been reviewed well from the community of critics when it comes to getting almost unanimous acclaim. But to his surprise, RRKPK broke that trend and is possibly his best-reviewed film of all time. Read our review here

In a full length interview with Film Companion, Johar opened up on the same as he talked about being surprised and not being used to it.

He said that while the box office makes him smile as it goes on from strength to strength, he is not used to receiving so many good reviews. He also highlighted that usually his films have had polarizing responses where few bash it entirely, a few like some aspects of it and only a select few seem to love it but this time, it seemed to be a surprise where everyone only seemed to pouring in good reviews.

He also laughed about how wondering what he has made and if he made a mistake as if the reviews are so good - will it transpire into the numbers or not.

He then talked about how he has been revelling in this critical love and how the likes of Anurag Kashyap and Rakesh Roshan, two filmmakers from entirely opposite sides of the spectrum are loving the film as well going on to praising his film immensely.

He concluded by saying he still feels shocked and surprised by this response as usually when he tries to do something, it doesn't get acknowledged or transpire with the intent but with RRKPK, it all seemed to work out in ways he couldn't have imagined.
