Actor Shahid Kapoor, who will be seen playing rockstar Tommy Singh in his forthcoming film "Udta Punjab", says he is "enjoying" this phase of his career and feels good that he is getting chance to portray varied characters.


Actor Shahid Kapoor, who will be seen playing rockstar Tommy Singh in his forthcoming film "Udta Punjab", says he is "enjoying" this phase of his career and feels good that he is getting chance to portray varied characters.

From drugs to alcohol, Shahid will be seen authenticating the after-effects of all these substances on celluloid in "Udta Punjab" through his character. In real life, Shhahid refrains from consuming even alcohol because of religious beliefs.

Many Bollywood celebrities have appreciated his role over social media.

"Through Tommy Singh I have explored a new space in my journey as an actor. I am enjoying this phase of my career where I am getting to play varied set of characters that are extremely interesting," Shahid said in a statement.

Directed by Abhishek Chaubey, "Udta Punjab" also stars Alia Bhatt, Kareena Kapoor Khan and Diljit Dosanjh.

The film highlights the issue of rampant drug abuse among youth in Punjab. It features Alia as a migrant Bihari labourer, Kareena as a doctor who is determined to fight the illegal transportation of drugs, and Diljit as a police officer.

The film is slated to release on June 17.
