Elvish Yadav, the YouTuber and Bigg Boss OTT 2 winner, has been entangled in a dispute over his supposed 'racist' comments aimed at Bigg Boss 18 participant Chum Darang. He was called before the National Commission for Women (NCW) in relation to this controversy. Elvish has now formally apologized to the NCW for his remarks against Chum. He engaged with the press outside the NCW office, stating that many people misunderstood his intentions. However, he acknowledged that if his words caused offense, then he must have erred in his communication. He also expressed regret to Chum and anyone else who was hurt by his statements, emphasizing that he has no personal animosity towards anyone.

Elvish Yadav, seen outside the NCW office after submitting his apology, in a video shared by ANI on X (formerly Twitter).

Jaise jaise hum life mein grow karte hain, experience lete hain, age bhi badhti hai toh maturity aati hai. Jo chum wala tha, usmein bohot saare log aise hain jinko mera intention samajh mein nahi aaya. Jinko aise laga ki galat hi bola inne. Jo ki main bhi manta hu ki logon ko bura laga hai to obviously maine kuch galat hi bola hoga jiske liye main andar gaya tha aur maine ma’am se bola I am sorry for this. (As we grow in life, gain experiences, and age, we also gain maturity. In this matter, there were many people who didn’t understand my intentions. Some of them felt that I said something wrong. And I agree- if people felt hurt by what I said, then obviously I must have said something wrong)

Elvish expressed remorse to all those affected by his comments, clarifying that his intent was not to cause harm. He emphasized that he doesn't even know Chum personally and asserted that he doesn't harbor any malice that would lead him to intentionally make derogatory remarks about anyone. “Jin jin ko, Chum ko khaas kar, kisi ko bhi meri taraf se bura laga ho to apology from my side aur main kisi ke liye mann mein hate nahi rakhta aur bura nahi sochta. (If anyone- especially Chum- felt hurt because of me, then I truly apologize. I don’t hold hatred for anyone in my heart, and I don’t wish bad for anyone)," he concluded.

A promotional clip from Elvish's podcast with Bigg Boss 18 contestant Rajat Dalal, which went viral in February, featured Elvish making light of Chum's name and performance in the film Gangubai Kathiawadi. “Karanveer ko pakka COVID tha kyunki Chum kisko pasand aati hai bhai, itna taste kiska kharab hota hai! Aur Chum ke toh naam mein hi ashleelta hai… Naam Chum aur kaam Gangubai Kathiawadi mein kiya hai," he said. Elvish later said that he has deleted that part from the podcast.

Chum responded to Elvish's controversial remarks in February via Instagram stories. She wrote, “Disrespecting someone’s identity & name is not ‘fun.’ Mocking someone’s achievements is not ‘banter.’ It’s time we draw the line between humor and hate. What’s even more disappointing is that this wasn’t just about my ethnicity, my hard work and a film backed by a visionary like Sanjay Leela Bhansali was also disrespected."

Chum addressed her fellow North-Easterners, urging them to speak out against racism. She emphasized that racism has no place in society and everyone deserves respect, dignity, and equality.
