Actress Janki Bodiwala recently opened up about an unusual creative suggestion she received during the making of the Gujarati film Vash, the original version of the Bollywood horror hit Shaitaan. Reflecting on her early career moments, Janki shared insights into the level of immersion expected from her during a key possession scene in the film.

During a panel conversation with fellow actors, Janki recounted a workshop moment when director Krishnadev Yagnik proposed an unexpected idea to heighten the realism of a critical scene. He had asked whether she would consider urinating on screen for real, believing it could enhance the emotional weight of the moment. At the time, Janki viewed the suggestion not as discomforting, but as an opportunity to explore a new level of authenticity as a performer.

She mentioned that, despite being open to the idea, it ultimately wasn't executed. The team later decided against it, citing logistical complications, including the challenge of repeating the scene multiple times during shooting. Janki added that an alternative method was used to portray the moment effectively without resorting to the original suggestion.

The scene in question depicts the character Aarya—under the influence of a supernatural force—resorting to an extreme act to prevent her father from taking a step that could worsen the situation. Janki said this particular sequence remained close to her and described it as the reason she had chosen to do the project in the first place.

Shaitaan, the Hindi adaptation of Vash, marked Janki’s debut in Bollywood alongside Ajay Devgn. The film proved to be a major commercial success, earning over ?200 crore globally on a modest budget. Given its performance at the box office, a sequel titled Shaitaan 2 is now in the works.

Janki’s anecdote has drawn attention to the demanding nature of genre filmmaking and the behind-the-scenes decisions that shape key moments on screen. Her reflections have sparked conversations around creative risks and the limits of realism in cinema.
