On the 10th anniversary of Baahubali: The Beginning, filmmaker SS Rajamouli made a surprise announcement: Baahubali: The Epic, a two-part combined version of the 2015 and 2017 films, will release in theatres on October 31, 2025.
The new version merges Baahubali: The Beginning and Baahubali 2: The Conclusion into one continuous narrative. The idea, according to Rajamouli, is to commemorate a decade of a film franchise that reshaped Indian cinema’s imagination. The announcement came with a new poster featuring Prabhas and a note shared on X (formerly Twitter): “Baahubali…The beginning of many journeys. Countless memories. Endless inspiration. It’s been 10 years. Marking this special milestone with #BaahubaliTheEpic, a two-part combined film. In theatres worldwide on October 31, 2025.”

The new cut will be released in Telugu, Tamil, Malayalam, and Hindi. However, the absence of a Kannada version sparked curiosity among a section of fans.
Reactions poured in online. While some celebrated the return of what they called “a game-changer for TFI and Indian cinema,” others called it “a treat” and asked if this meant Rajamouli was nearing the next phase of post-production on his upcoming project SSMB 29, which stars Mahesh Babu, Priyanka Chopra, and Prithviraj Sukumaran.
Financially, the Baahubali franchise redefined box office benchmarks. The first part made approximately ?650 crore globally, while Baahubali 2 went on to earn over ?1788 crore. It still holds the third spot among the highest-grossing Indian films, just behind Dangal and Pushpa 2: The Rule.
Rajamouli’s decision to present the story as one extended saga is also being seen as a nod to international franchise formats—where director’s cuts or extended editions are often given a theatrical re-release.
Whether other Indian filmmakers will adopt a similar strategy for their franchises is yet to be seen. But for now, Baahubali: The Epic offers audiences a chance to relive a story that blended mythology, vengeance, and spectacle—and left a permanent mark on pan-India filmmaking.
