Ajay Devgn addresses the creative faults in ‘Singham Again’: “In the next film we will make sure……”

The much-anticipated Singham Again, featuring Ajay Devgn in the iconic role of Bajirao Singham, hit the big screens on Diwali 2024. Directed by Rohit Shetty, the fifth film in his cop universe generated significant buzz before its release. However, upon hitting theaters, it received a mixed response from both critics and audiences. While some praised its grand action and ensemble cast, many fans felt that Singham’s character lacked the intensity and power seen in the previous films.

Ajay Devgn Acknowledges Fan Disappointment

Recently, Ajay Devgn addressed the concerns regarding his portrayal of Singham in an interview at the Zee Real Heroes Awards 2025. When asked about why his character appeared more restrained in comparison to earlier films, Devgn admitted that he had received similar feedback from multiple viewers.

He assured fans that the makers would take their suggestions seriously and bring back the classic version of Singham in future installments.

“I have heard this from many people. We will make sure that the real essence of Singham—the fierce action and intense confrontations—returns in the next film.”

Devgn acknowledged that fans missed the high-energy sequences where Singham would take down criminals with brute force and assured that this element would be restored in upcoming projects.
Despite the mixed reviews, Singham Again performed decently at the box office. The film collected approximately Rs 240 crore net in India. However, it wasn’t as massive a success as expected, partly due to the competition it faced from Bhool Bhulaiyaa 3, starring Kartik Aaryan. The horror-comedy, which released alongside Singham Again, managed to draw a significant audience, affecting the cop-actioner’s earnings.

While some critics appreciated the film’s high-octane action and star-studded cast, others felt it lacked the gripping storytelling and intensity that made the earlier films in the franchise a hit.

After Singham Again, Ajay Devgn has several interesting projects lined up. He will next be seen in Raid 2, co-starring Vaani Kapoor. Directed by Rajkumar Gupta, the film is slated for release on May 1, 2025. In addition, he is also working on De De Pyaar De 2, a sequel to his 2019 romantic comedy.
