CHAPTER 1
Shaurya was in his room sitting on the couch. His eyes were closed and he was thinking. He could see a little boy and a girl playing in a big room. "Mahek. You give back my toys I'm not sharing them with you." The little boy said and pushed her. "Shaurie. Bad boy. What did Mahek do? You shouldn't do like that." Him mother chided who was seeing them playing for long time. The little Mahek got up. She bowed down. "Sorry Prince." She said with a heavy voice and ran outside. Shaurya had seen the tears. He felt bad for shouting at her. "See now you have hurt her. Go say sorry." Karuna, the sweetest Queen the Kingdom ever had and Shaurya's Mom said. He got up and went outside the door and looked through the confusing alleys of the palace to get any clue of Mahek but she was no where to be seen. He knew where she could be. He went straight to the head servant Kanta's room. He knocked once. No answer. He knocked again. No answer. He was about to knock again when Kanta came. "Prince. You here?" She questioned. "I have to say sorry to Mahek." He told his purpose of being there.
"Mahek. Open the door." Kanta said knocking at the door. Mahek got up from the ground and opened the door and again took her position. She was doing calculation in her copy. "See who's here?" Kanta said and Shaurya came from her behind. Mahek didn't look. She was still busy with her maths. Shaurya sat near her and shook her holding her hand. "Ahhh." She winced. Kanta and Shaurya grew worried. "What happened." Shaurya asked. She didn't answer. Kanta sat beside her and asked. She showed Kanta her elbow. It was badly injured. "Mahek how did it happen?" Kanta was tensed seeing her injury. There was no answer. Kanta looked at Shaurya and told him to come some other time. She needed to bandage her. Shaurya looked at her wounds again knew how it came. He didn't realise then but when he pushed her she collided the corner of the metal table in the room. He left the place and ran to his Mumma's room. Kanta closed the door and asked her again how did she get it. She told everything. "You stay away from these people Mahek. You're too fragile to bear them. They are no good people. They are just rich powerful people who don't value our lives." Kanta said wiping her tears and cleaning her wound. After she was done dressing up her wound Mahek gave her a bear hug. Kanta that day fed her with her own hand and also sang a lullaby to her.
"Mumma. Mahek's hand had bruises coz I pushed her." Shaurya said sitting beside his Mom feeling guilty of the pain she had. Karuna caressed his hair and wiped his tears. "Son. I'm telling you the most important thing of your life. Now that you're born in a princely family you are chosen by the Almighty. That supreme being made you there caretaker. But don't forget. You are their caretaker and not their God. The day you'll think you own them and behave like you did to Mahek, he'll punish you badly. Always remember. You earn their love and not their tears." Karuna said what her Mom taught to her brother once and now it was the right time to teach it to Shaurya. Shaurya nodded his head and went to his room to complete his homework.
Shaurya was still thinking of that day when he heard a knock at the door. "Yeah come in." He said sitting straight on the couch. It was Mahek again. Karuna told her when she was in the garden looking at the red roses to pluck some of them and set it in Shaurya's room. Flowers make the day beautiful. Mahek didn't want to pluck it but the Queen said and as directed by her Kanta Chachi she can't say a no to their bosses. Mahek wasn't their servant actually and and all. She was Kanta's niece and only helped Kanta. She loved her only relative left in this world. Her Kanta Chachi. She had grown her up after that train accident that took away her entire family including Kanta's husband. Both of them worked in the palace while Mahek lived in the village with her family but that train accident took away everything.
Mahek came it with the bunch of roses and went to the night stand and sat there on her knees and was arranging it in the vase. Shaurya got up from the couch and stood behind her practically blocking her way to creep out. After she arranged she got up and was shocked to see him standing behind her. "Mahek. What it is that is bothering you?" Shaurya said crossing his hands across his chest. She nodded her head left right. "Speak up please." He forced her to share her problem. "Nothing Prince." Saying so she ran from the little space she found out. "Prince. Definitely there's something that's bothering her." He thought and saw the roses. He bent and picked up the vase to get the fragrance of those fragile red beautiful roses. He inhaled. It was soothing. He kept it back at its place and went to the window and saw Mahek was smiling and talking to his Mom in the garden. He punched on the wooden frame of the window in frustration. He was frustrated with Mahek's behaviour ever since he confessed his love for her that day on the terrace when his family were invited to another Kingdom for the engagement ceremony of the Prince there.
Mahek was on the terrace at night. She was looking at the most beautiful star which she thought was her Mom. She had a pretty smile thinking of the little memories she had of her family. Shaurya was also standing at a distance from where he could see her in the full moon light but she couldn't. His heart was having tough time with brain. He saw some tears forming in her eyes. That moment. That very moment his heart won. His legs took him towards her. "Mahek." He said from behind. Mahek got into her senses and quickly wiped her tears. She turned to see him with a faint smile. "Yeah. You need anything Prince?" She asked. "Mahek. It's Shaurya. Shaurya is the Name. Stop calling me Prince." He said. "Chachi told to when I addressed you Shaurya today again..." Mahek told." Huh. It's my order Mahek. You'll not call me Prince when no one is around." He said sternly. "Okay. Shaurya." Yeah. I like that." Shaurya said happily. Mahek got a smile. She was about to leave when Shaurya held her wrist. She looked at him with surprise. "Mahek. I love you. I don't know how, why, when but. I love you madly. Maybe ever since you came with your Chachi in the palace I loved you but today I felt like I should be telling it. I can't hold it any longer in me. I love you Mahek. I really do." His voice was soft. Mahek didn't know how to react. "You stay away from these people Mahek. You're too fragile to bear them. They are no good people. They are just rich powerful people who don't value our lives." Kanta's lesson in her childhood rang in her mind and she ran away from there. She didn't show up for three days and he grew worried but one day she came in his room with some snacks Kanta sent. He reached her and was about to hug when she stepped back. She didn't say anything and left. He didn't understand and this happened everyday till today when she addressed him as Prince. Again.
He saw her giggling with his Mom over some joke she cracked a moment ago. She was massaging her leg and was chatting. Mahek is one talkative girl whom she's comfortable with and a complete dumb show with people she chose to ignore or chose to not open with didn't know. Karuna was feeling relaxed with Mahek's massage. "You have the magic bacche." She said keeping her hand on her head. Mahek smiled and was still massaging when Shaurya got down. He hugged his Mom from behind and sat their. "Excuse me." Mahek said and left. Karuna saw her going and smiled. "Badi pyaari bacchi hai." She said to herself. Shaurya was hurt but he couldn't do anything. He was still looking until she vanished into the palace.
