Dinner with Karan for Fawad, Mahira

Karan Johar's intimate dinner party at his Bandra home saw two Pakistani actors Fawad Khan and Mahira Khan share a table. Fawad is in the country to shoot for Karan's film Kapoor And Sons while Mahira is shooting with Shah Rukh Khan for Raees.

A source says, "Karan's dinner was restricted to his close friends from the industry." Both actors seem to share a great camaraderie with Johar and company. We hear Ayan Mukerji too attended the very exclusive soiree. Fawad Khan has been steadily climbing the popularity charts in the country, thanks to his Pakistani television shows that are being aired in India and a very successful Bollywood debut as well. Mahira too has been a cause of intrigue right from the time she landed on the sets of Raees. "I'd say this generation of Pakistani actors are playing their cards well. They don't want to be known as one-film wonders. Their publicity teams are working hard to keep them in the news. And they even have the blessings of the biggest banners in the industry."

Bhansali Rescues Sahir Ludhianvi Biopic From Getting Shelved

The project is back on track

For all those who want to see the Sahir Ludhianvi-Amrita Pritam romance on the big screen, there's good news.

Sanjay Leela Bhansali has decided to back the project.

You may remember that Ashi Dua, who produced Bombay Talkies, has been trying to put together the biopic of Ludhianvi for the longest time. However, the project seemed jinxed.

Shahid Kapoor and Irrfan Khan were approached to play the legendary writer, but things did not work out. Similarly, Priyanka Chopra who was to essay the role of Amrita reportedly turned down the project. Plus, Ludhianvi's family too was against the biopic from the beginning.

Also, there were whispers that producer Vikram Malhotra (who has produced Baby and the forthcoming Airlift) didn't find the project commercially viable.

Said a source, "They had Fawad Khan on board as Sahir and Sonakshi Sinha for Amrita Pritam but apparently, many felt that the film was not commercially feasible."

As a result, Jasmeet and Ashi decided to look for more buyers.

That's when Bhansali entered the picture and green-lit the film. "The cast may go through a change but the script and director remain the same. He's had several meetings with the team and modalities are fast being worked out between SLB productions and Ashi and Jasmeet. The project is very much on."

Sneha To Direct Who?

Tips Industries Ramesh Taurani's daughter Sneha will soon make her debut as a director. And the father is leaving no stone unturned to make the film grand. It's a new-age rom-com. Initially, we were told that they were keen on signing Ranbir Kapoor but he had date issues. Lately, we heard they had approached Pakistani superstar Fawad Khan, who is becoming a favourite among Indian filmmakers, to play the lead. But Khan is busy with Dharma Productions' Kapoor And Sons and he also has a few more films in his kitty. So he too seems to have rejected the offer politely citing date issues.

Taurani says, "No that's not true. We have spoken to a big actor and he liked the script. We will make an announcement once he signs on the dotted line."

Let's all raise a toast to the newest Khan in tinsel town. The Pakistani heartthrob, who made a debut last year with Khoobsurat, is now the most sought after actor. Women from the age of 6 to 60 are crushing over him. And filmmakers are in the mood to cash in on his magnetism. In just a few months, Fawad has bagged a number of big films. Reema Kagti has signed him for Mr Chalu opposite Priyanka Chopra, Karan Johar has got him on board for Shakun Batra's Kapoor And Sons opposite Alia Bhatt and Sidhahrth Malhotra and Sonam Kapoor is pairing up with him again for Battle of Bittora. Apparently, he will also be cast opposite Sonakshi Sinha in the Sahir Ludhianvi biopic... Phew! The man is on a roll.
