What if Khirad didn't forgive Ashar at the end ? How many people would have been happy with this ending ?
A very good question but a tricky one to answer honestly. I am those die heart romantics who believe in happies endings forever. From that pov, I am happy that they patched up and reconciled. But if I see the amount of insult, indifference and trauma Khorad went through as expecting mother, it will not be much unjustifying if khirad chose separation forever. I would have beemn happy with that too. It would be those tragic love stories which makes you believe that true love never ends but may not have happy forevers. As said our sweetest songs are those which tells us our saddest thoughts. I would have taken it that way.
But as khirad chose forgiveness and reconcilation, I would say that I was not much disappointed either as the writer herself told these two people loved each other and may be khirad was not completely mentally detached herself from Asher or rather fall out of loce. Moreocer there was a growing child involved, whose wrld were incompkete without either of the parent. Sif I am not wrong Asher asked for forgiveness from khirad in the novel a proper one, that must be genuine and heartfelt . So giving him another chance was alright I suppose as he was a victim too and suffered and never actuallymoved on though had options. So that in a way showed his commitment too , may be all these readons helped khirad to forgive him and start a afresh. Moreover living a stable, happy, secure life wwhere you are being loved is a normal human emotion and people crave for that. Khirad had no one who can fullfill her emotional demands as a woman & not as a mother only, thus she said thak gayi hun main akele jeete jeete. She chose companionship after living in solitude and I dnt think it was much of an abnormal reaction.
I would have been happy with both the decisions if she lives yhat decision whole heartedly.
