Loved your take on the episode which is going fully emotionally charged some last episodes , after separation . Sometimes it appears as if Asher is perplexed with Khirad,s behavior , she does not react . And rightly said , he intentionally seems to be provoking her to react but Khirad has made an ice wall around her where Asher can not reach . she stand defiantly as a proud woman when Asher was trying to make her feel guilty about his mother,s call . Khirad looking in to his eyes tells him its his problem . None of them are loud . You feel sad when watch this make believe happy family for the sake of Hareem . Asher never tries to belittle Khirad and wants his child to give her the same respect .
As you said there are so many small moments which touches you . Is this Waqti Samjhota ( compromise for the time being ) Asher has heard when Khirad was talking to Betule Khala ? He leaves no opportunity to provoke her so that she break her silence . Asher is no fool , its his ego which is preventing him to confront Khirad ,what was the truth ? Either he trusted his mother . ,If he had trusted his mother that Khirad went with Khizar and all the crap his mother fed him , he might be in the impression that she was not in love with him and thats why keeping his distance . His love for Khirad is not gone anywhere , still there , melted after her coming back .
Like Mahira with speaking eyes which gives message to Asher loud and clear .
Fawad Khan can bring life in to a listless character

Love the interpretations of Ashar character. But one thing no one seems to be mentioning, is that he is a deeply flawed character. only in the respect of suspending his own judgement when faced by any parental opposition. He does it right when his father forces him to get married and he does it when his mother forces his marriage apart. I know in our cultures parental obedience is a virtue. But Ashar belongs to an educated and liberal part of the society. he is friends with his parents and yet at crucial points he fails to convince them , In fact he finds it easier to be patently unfair to someone else, even though he knows it is not her fault. My view is that fairness is a basic personality trait, you cant be fair and judicious to some and not to others.
Similar is his treatment of Sara. If you know and have been told openly by someone repeatedly that they care about you romantically, you would want to remove yourself from the equation. I understand Zarina Aunty's frustration, that neither does he let go nor does he move towards Sara. I felt it wasn't decent of him to keep hanging around even as a friend. in effect, he is responsible for the destruction of her life.
so his personality is weak in comparison to Khirad. She does no wrong, in fact she even questions her Uncle Baseerat as to whether his decision was correct- arguments that should have come from his son. I have a feeling that it is her strong views which he overhears that get him attracted to her. So even though the story devotes considerable time in establishing how needy for affection and protection she was, essentially it is her strength, and his weakness, which is at the base of their love story.
So Ashar is basically unable to form his own judgment whenever faced by strength,he basically gives in to anyone who has strength os conviction--- his mother, father, Sara. Finally as Khirad says she has to speak in his terms to get back at him. She has to become very in-your-face strong and non-caring in order for him to see sense.
which brings me to the final point of this long thesis. How can you live with a woman, share intimate moments, understand the folly of your own reactions the night before, hear and appreciate her innocence of motive and then come back and react so badly in one go? Granted, he goes berserk in his anger but to not want answers for 4 years.? That definitely is lack of character. Does he do it because she is financially and socially weak and unlikely to challenge him? or does he do this because he dosent want to fall from his mother's eyes? his action of hiding behind lies while his mother is away, shows that even though he knows his action regd Hareem is ethically and morally correct, he does not want to face his mother's wrath. The weakest person in the entire equation is always Khirad hence he finds it okay to be mean and unjust to her. so according to me Ashar definitely is a weak and unfair character and Khirad has to come back in the avatar of a strong woman akin to his mother for him to appreciate her again.
The hero of the story is entirely Khirad. The transformation of Khirad is the story while Ashar remains where he was at entry point of the story.
And that is why it is Fawad Khan who has to be appreciated. the charater he plays is deeply flawed yet he makes us love Ashar by his interpretation of his character, by making him more human. In the hands of a lesser actor Ashar could have become the villain but FK humanizes him.

did anyone notice that tiny lil moment when Asher was fixing Hareem's dolls on her bed ? such an adorable father he is.. and also when he combs her hair while she asks for a bhai, aww Asher, who would have thought him doing all these..

About Asher, Sara and Raza scene in the restaurant when Asher talks about quitting smoking, i liked how sara was so confident that he was quitting smoking because of her, and i also liked how Asher gave her some credit, atleast mentioned her to be his well wisher, because eventhough its not the literal truth, he allows people surrounding him to know about how much sara has done for him ( in his dreamland ), he is always very grateful to sara, may be because he thinks she was his only true friend and a support system who knows him throughout.

And yes once again, unintentionally, in his anger or guilt ( yes guilt ) of not being able to share his biggets happiness with his mother, he shared the d
amn burden or baggage with khirad. Yes he yelled at her, that once again he feels guilty of putting his mother in dark, and she just realizes that he is the same Asher, guilt consicious, sensitive and emotional, and if she wouldn't be so immune and disgusted to him then I am sure khirad's reaction would be something else.

Here comes the onservation that its guilt which eats Asher up, be it his guilt as a father who finds himself as a culprit in his daughter's life, or be it as a son, who thinks lying to his mother and keeping her out of all this is an equal sin. Eventhough i just love him for this, where he does put everyone else on a pedestal and thinks him to be the sole giver of happiness and justifications, i wonder what makes him do that still ? is it because his depression or heartbreak hasn't changed the person in him or is it because after khirad's return he is having an inner struggle of wanting to be the old Asher but cannot become the same because khirad isn't the old khirad anymore.

Moral of the story is inspite of trying so much Asher could not keep everybody happy, he wants to keep sara, khirad, mummy, daddy, khizar, noor afzah, and neighbourhood's bhabi, alina ki papa and blah and blah everybody happy at the same time ? and if he fails he feels guilty , ohh damn stop it Asher, think about your happiness, its khirad, and just let the phobea of GUILT in u go, u are a grown up man, and u can handle mummy's wrath , sometimes its ok to betray mothers like fareeda.

Wait, I want to get something straight. For everyone who considers Asher weak, is it strictly on the basis of his character being written as weak, or him as a man being weak? Or both?

I think people are talking about the Man as weak... the character that is written is very realistic

no infact ur outburst is right. but from sara's POV, it was a shocker that after 5 years she caught Asher with his wife and that too when Asher lied to her. Asher and her bond is very much free of lies when its from Asher's side, and she actually never thought that he will do this. But its good he has done it atleast for once, she needs to realize it that the way she has ruined him noone else could have done this to him.
