Akshat Verma to turn director

Akshat Verma, the writer of the delightful Delhi Belly which had Imran Khan, Vir Das and Kunal Roy Kapoor as roommates, is back. The 2011 adult comedy, which was produced by Aamir Khan Productions and directed by Abhinay Deo had became extremely popular because of the hilarious one liners and remarkable performances by the lead actors.

The writer who is based in Los Angeles and flits between India and the US has finished writing his second script. However this time round he will turn director with his story. Currently in India and giving the finishing touches to his script, the writer says that his second offering is a black comedy. "Writing takes time, but now I am ready to roll. Like Delhi Belly, this film too will be funny because my writing has to have comic elements. I don't know whether Aamir Khan Productions will come on board as producers as I still have to show my script to Aamir, but Disney UTV Motion Pictures has already agreed to produce it," he said.

Delhi Belly Sequel on the cards ? - Aamir and UTV to produce it

Delhi Belly brought the trend of Adult comedies in Bollywood. The movie was directed by Abhinay Deo who became one of the most sought after director post the release of Delhi Belly.

Akshat Verma, the writer of the situational comedy too got due recognition. Post Delhi Belly, the writer has not written a single film and now is all set for a comeback.

There are rumors that he is ready with another script which will be a dark situational comedy. The script requires five young faces in the lead role. The writer has already narrated the script to Aamir Khan who co produced Delhi Belly.

A source revealed to a leading daily-

"If all goes as planned, then Disney India and Aamir Khan Productions should produce the film. Aamir laughed throughout Akshat's narration. From the looks of it, he seemed impressed. He's likely to have subsequent meetings to take the project forward,"

Earlier there were rumors that Akshat is preparing a script for the sequel of Delhi Belly but no further confirmation of the same was obtained.

The script which Akshat has written is apparently another Adult situational comedy which is apt to be the sequel to Delhi Belly. The makers can turn Delhi Belly into a huge franchise with different story for each outing.

The source continued -

"Akshat didn't discuss his wish-list of actors when he met Aamir but chances are that they may not repeat the cast of the previous film because the stories aren't connected,"

Further details and confirmation regarding the project are awaited.
