Also its not about the things that we are used to which are worse and therefore smoking is mild compared to that. Its just that there are things which are done differently here, and one notices it.
We are so used to watching films with warnings "smoking kills". Its not about if it is effective or not, if its right or wrong, its just something we are accustomed too.

Sex determination is also something that crossed my mind. I guess its not illegal there, so its ok for them. If you notice, many of their scenes have people talking on the cell phone while driving, and sear belts not worn. It happens here too, but at least in a city like Mumbai, it not so common. Most of the times that kind of a scene in real life will have the Pandu hawaldars also present!😆

Another thing is having 2 wives. Having extra marital affairs is one thing, but having 2 wives at the same time in the same house, is something that will surely cause an "oh" from our audiences.
I have loads of Muslim friends here. Even they look down upon it, even though it is accepted in their religion. They too have raised their eyebrows when they watched Shuk and have shuddered as the story went along. They were also so mad at Murtuza for marrying again and also even more for the reason he married again.

Another thing is I find that the lower middle class or middle class section of society, where finances are big constraints (ZGH, Maat, among others), they live in fairly large independent houses. That's very different from what it is here, but the decor somehow is completely alien to my eye for that kind of economic section. Matching bedside lamps, large single beds, fruit juice being a part of daily life, being some of the things that always catch my attention.
But then maybe that's the way it is for people in that economic section in Pakistan. One would never see that in typical homes here in similar families.

So I guess its just basically a matter of what one is used to seeing and what not.

I completely agree with you !

Bur indian news channels and entertainment channels show far more disturbing things to shake me up than just a man smoking. But yes gender specification test was a surprising fact as its not openly discussed legally here any more.

I am repeating the same thing which @nevah_mind said in her above post. It's not about right or wrong. It's just i am not used to watch these type of scenes in Indian tv. I saw last 2-3 episodes of Noorpur ki Rani where a male lead was talking while smoking. In indian tv negative characters do these type of things but here it was a hero. I am not used to watch these type of heroes on Indian tv's so i disliked it and it's my individual choice..may be other viewers have no problem with it.

I have already stated that in my post as in the second line. Individual people, individual choices. You are entitled to like, dislike whatever you feel.no need to explain it further. Our indian heros do lot more abusive stuff than just smoking which make me uncomfortable. Alag log, alag pasand.

And during zgh airing, whenever Fk was shown smoking, there was a small caption below the screen smoking kills. So the channel did their part.

Had no intention to offend anyone. Peace.

Saw some discussions on sex-determination being prevalent and I just want to give my 2 cents on it. In India it is banned or illegal coz it is used as a tool to abort girl child, but it's very much used in other countries and I guess it's d same case wid Pakistan. BTW have no idea abt whether der to female foeticide is a major issue or not.

As far as Maat goes, I just watched the last epi n I don't think I wld hv been able to sit thru d entire show. Read the story on wiki page and found it pretty repressive. Also I can't connect wid stories dat r based on characters spending their whole lives giving maat to others and making other ppl's lives miserable and worse still other ppl allowing dat!😲

Not aware if female foeticide is an issue there as it is here, but the fact is that socially a male child is /preferable/more important to them than the female child. Just like here. In fact that was one of the key issues of their society that they wanted to address in ZGH, which Rafia said very clearly to her brother-in-law towards the end, after Kashaf was so successful academically and in career.

You said it, mate.
It made my evenings miserable! 😆 And I only allowed it by watching it.

I suppose Pakistan is as such a patriarchal society as India or more so, and yes from d shows especially ZGH it is evident tht boy child is much desired, but I don't knw if sex determination is used as a tool to abort unborn females, like it is in India. And again I am making a guess, but maybe in Pakistan dis practice is not prevalent coz abortion is considered a sin in Islam. But again it's an assumption from my side as we all know who ppl tend to use religion as per their convenience.

I don't get why people are so surprised that a male child is desired in Pakistani society. A male child is desired by every society even western societies. I can name so many hollywood movies and British/American shows where a female protagonist is an overachiever because she was neglected by her father who wanted a son. This is just a universal phenomenon. We live in a male dominated world and that is why it is natural for all societies to desire a male child over a female.

I'm not saying that this attitude is right or wrong for that matter - just stating the obvious.

I don't think anyone expressed surprise on that.
The comments were on sex determination during pregnancy. It is illegal in India, and therefore it just caught the attention of many here, that its different there.
That's all.

Hi Kankshita :-)You make beautiful creations.😊

Coming to the show,I didn't watch it regularly but caught this last episode as I was expecting it to be good and yes it was more than being good a thought provoking episode. It leaves you with deep thoughts and forces u to sit back and think about.I cannot analyze it as much as you(u have done it too well) because I have been irregular with it,but I would say that the end was justified.Aiman just hit the right spot in end,the dialogues were so deep.I just liked how she said that she wants both Faisal and Saman to live together and she would never let Hadid meet them again.
The actors especially Aamina has done a splendid job.She left me dumbstruck today.

Hey, thanks.

Speaking specifically of the last episode, Aiman was the star but through the show in the general idea of it, Saman had more screen space and cunning as she is, would have been unbearable had it not been for the actress. In the entirety of it, like most other Pakistani shows I have come across, the actor's performance is the first and sometimes the only thing that keeps you watching. Wouldn't you say?
