My dearest Sri (and Adiana too),

I agree with you completely, and I had in any case never even considered doing fresh posts for the old episodes that I had already written about. It would be, as I have stated repeatedly here and on the Reminiscences thread, impossible to improve on them, and as you say so correctly, it is never like the first time around.

So I decided to do fresh ones only for the first 9 episodes that I had not done then, for I started posting here only on June 30, 2013, when the show had covered those 9 episodes. In the event, as Nos. 8 and 9 have proved to be such washouts, I have been spared the effort of doing those 2 posts!

Adiana, I agree with you that a second viewing can sometimes reveal nuances that one missed the first time around. Which is why, as I wrote here to Mandy and as Donjas wants, I was thinking of editing those old posts by adding an updating intro or rewriting some parts. That might have been of interest to those who came into the show some weeks or even months after June 2013.

But even that takes some effort, and what gets me down is the lack of numbers for both the readers and the comments. Anyhow, I shall try for a little longer, without daily posts, and instead do them for perhaps 3 at a time As I am going to have to do anyway for Nos. 8-10! Let us see how we go on, and if things get worse, I can always call a halt to the process!

And Sri, I love you too! What is your teenager up to these days?

I am most likely the minority or a lonely voice. But still voicing or just thinking aloud,

If you have done already individual posts in JA's first run, Akka, which most likely ran into 150 pages in each thread with people actively participating with such divergent views/counterpoints and likely discussion, what is the point in doing it all over again ?
There is no question or even iota of doubt that you will bring in some more perspectives into the second writing but I think it is an not apt thing to do to your incredible writing as a craft.
I am somehow unable to understand the need to do multiple analysis of the same episode.
I have read most of your old posts here, as well as dhawani - They are ABSOLUTELY INCREDIBLY WONDERFUL. Can you yourself improve on them ? I do not know. First time is special.
There is a time for everything - JA had its golden episodes and glorious commentary from you.
Just redoing it and trying to create that magic seems a tiring exercise to me.
I can delete the post if need be. LOVE you and your writing. 👏⭐️

As of now there are only two types of ppl there - the good guys and the bad guys - there is no one who happens to be colorful like the rainbow - like our dear Jalal😉

Of course, my dear Shreya. I will miss your comments, but so long as you are there with me, I will not mind it. Studies should ALWAYS come first, and I am grateful to God that we did not have any of these distractions when I was at school and college! I do not know how you kids juggle so many interests, and time-consuming ones too!

Hello Aunty,

I dropped into say that I am loving your posts and please keep them on. I do read your posts diligently after watching the episode (either at 8:30pm or the repeat). However, since my semester started this Monday, I have been unable to respond/provide my views on your post and the episode. I would love to participate in the interesting discussions going on but for now I'll have to be content as a silent reader. Please bear with me.

My dear Preeti,

Don't worry about all this. I myself am thinking of shifting to biweekly posts for starters. I simply cannot manage daily posts any more, and even if I was well enough, the level of interest at present would not justify the effort. As it is, I will be combining 8,9 & 10, as the first two were duds!

I never had any idea of restarting my posts, and it was only to please Mandy that I began them. I must confess that I have enjoyed doing the first 7 fresh posts - especially the Amer ki pukar and the Parwaan chad chuka tha ones - for episodes I had not covered in 2013. But I never had any idea of doing new posts for the rest. I have already covered them, and while a point or two could be added now, otherwise my old posts can hardly be improved upon!

So I am simply going to collate 3 of my old posts each time, edit them a bit and add any fresh nuances that might occur to me, like the Ramayana parallel that you liked so much, which only came to me this time around.

Let us see how this goes. Of course I have carried the Rajat-specific extracts from all of them up to Episode 65 in the other thread, which I have abandoned for the present, but these will be the whole posts, which are at times quite substantial in terms of additional material.

As for the medical systems matter, don't give it another thought. As for me, though I am perfectly prepared to accept any number of flaws in the Indian one, I am afraid I lost my temper - which is something I do only very rarely - when I read that wholesale trashing of Indian medical education and care (not yours). All my protective instincts about India, honed during 38 years as an Indian diplomat, came up all in full force, and I am afraid I sounded quite hyper. But all that I wrote about the treatment I got in the best hospital in Geneva for a simple fracture was accurate, as also the part about all the Indian doctors I have encountered.

For one things, they are generally superior to their Western counterparts in diagnosis. Why, I was charged CAD 85 by an Ottawa ophthalomologist for an very persistent eye infection, but it only grew worse and I had to go thru a major conference of the Canadian Foreign Ministry with that eye. Then I went to Vancouver, and an NRI doctor, who had been educated in India, diagnosed it as bacterial conjunctivitis, and cured it in 4 days flat!

Well, enough of that. Let me see how the biweekly option works! For now, I plan to stay here.

Take care, my dear.

Affectionately,

Shyamala

Dearest Shyamala, I am sorry for my inability to respond to your daily threads consistently.

You have asked for an honest opinion on doing a daily post and based on the effort you put in I believe you deserve one. I personally find it hard to keep up with a daily post, because due to the time difference and my lengthy work day , by the time I carefully read your post you have already moved to the next day ( I myself am 3 episodes behind now😭). I would find it easier to respond to a weekly post like you did in Mahakumbh. It gives me time to respond on the weekends when I have the most time.

Another reason dear is somewhat decreased interest in the show itself. As I mentioned to you in the beginning, I have no interest in re-watching the show and so far I have only watched the beginning scene at the Makbara. Also this whole Suryabhan saga is just not appealing enough. I come to this thread solely to enjoy your writing and relive my memories through your delightful posts. I always learn something new ( like the delightful Ramayan analogy😉) when I read your posts and intend to follow you where ever you go on this forum.

This is ofcourse my personal view and the rest of the gang may want a daily post. the rest is up to you and your health dear. You could try what Donjas suggested but I am not sure posting on the main forum will increase response as it is inundated with FFs

PS. I cannot tell you how sorry I am about this whole discussion on India's healthcare system. My single lament on the death of Basanti Devi and the underlying poverty issue blew over into a completely off topic discussion on India's healthcare system. That is the only reason I did not respond to your last response to me ( i did like the post). It was never my intent to compare the two systems. I am sorry and will be very careful in the future😕

THE SETS WERE OUT OF THIS WORLD ( I AM TOLD EVEN OUR JA USED THE SET TO START WITH, OR SOMETHING), JEWELLERY AND APPAREL WERE OUTSTANDING. ACTORS APART FROM LEADS WERE ALSO GOOD - BHARMAL BY KK WAS SO MUCH BETTER, AS WAS ATGAHJI. LOVED SONU SOOD AS SOOJAMAL, AND HE HAD A DECENT ROLE TOO.

WAR SCENES WERE BETTER EXECUTED, UNLIKE IN OUR JA WHERE THEY USE GRAPHICS, AND THAT TOO QUITE POORLY

REGARDING TANISHQ COMING ON BOARD, I WOULD ATTRIBUTE THAT TO GA BEING MORE FOCUSSED AND PERFECTION ORIENTED. HE WAS DOING A SINGLE FILM WHILE EKTA HAD SO MANY OTHER THINGS GOING ON AS WELL.

THE ONLY REASON WHY I LIKED OUR JA WAS RAJAT. THE REST OF IT WAS VERY ORDINARY

I ALWAYS THOUGHT EKTA WOULD SPARE NO EXPENSE FOR HER MAGNUM OPUS, BUT WAS QUITE DISHEARTENED TO SEE THE CLOTHES, JEWELLERY, JUNIOR ARTISTS ETC

OF COURSE, IT WAS MUCH LATER THAT I REALIZED THAT THESE WERE ONLY MINOR THINGS, AND A LOT OF MAJOR THINGS WERE WRONG TOO 😃😡

HAVING SAID THAT I FEEL IT IS NOT CORRECT TO COMPARE A TV SHOW AND A FILM

FOR ME BOTH HRITHIK AND RAJAT WERE MIND BLOWING AND MADE AKBAR COME ALIVE

Actually in the show, in terms of tracks.. especially the ones when the show started were actually very well thought out.

The characters were quite layered. Especially Jalal's character, and the fact that it was Rajat who played the role.

If we just watch the show casually it does seem like any other show. But there are dialogues and instances in the show that have deep meaning. I usually realize that after reading Aunty's posts. and post- show discussions with other forum members.

The show was still quite expensive, and if I'm not wrong it's the reason why the show ended.

I have never liked Hritik, ever. But he sure looked good in the movie. Ash is beautiful, but she looked quite plain..

I wonder what if he had to play the Jalal Rajat played.
