I wont say they are obese...they are little heavy..Because in their younger days they were probably very energetic and learned classic dancing for many years...and once you stop practicing on regular bases, especially classic dance, you tend to gain a lot of weight especially on your lower body.

Also once you are little established, after years and years of struggling, you are allowed to put some weight, what say?

they are not obese!!
ok they have some weight to loose but you can't say obese!
and yes they are aging, and with age comes weight, but this doesn't stop them to create lovely choregraphy

Lol Iam a biomedical research student and scientifically none of the names you have mentioned would come into the category of obese if their BMI were to be calculated. They would be in the average, normal population of over weight people. So over-weight is the correct term for them (BMI ~ 25-30 kg/m2 region)

(Although Iam not sure about Ganesh Acharya though)
Although they r overweight, all these years of dancing has not reduced their energy levels which is very impressive... Especially Vaibhavi! She dances at crazy energy levels!!! Awesome :)

yaah might be i used the wrong word, i should have said overweight rather than obesse. Actually i was wondering this coz all shows have thin slim dancers like shakti, mukti etc, so how do these choreographers manage to teach this slim dancers, i mean how do they show the steps?

as someone already pointed out, once u stop practising daily, u tend to gain weight, i myself trained in classical and now i have gained a lot of weight coz i do not practise.
when they show steps, they donot have to perform them coz they will only show steps to actors who must have dance training and proff dancers, so they dont need to jump up and down to make them understand how its going to be.
also, i have seen many indian classical dancers perform and noen of them r size 01,2, rather classical dancers r always a bit full and curvy , and that accentuates the necessary hip and joint movements
for western dances its completely opp as it largely depends on lifts and splits and flying movements which require agility.

I understand ur question cos I myself have always wondered. But Iam assuming just like directors have assistants, choreographers also have assistants.... so they probably explain it to the pro dancers and they probably explain it to the celebs/ participants.
