From what I can understand, it seems that Ritvik brought most of those little nuances and details to Kunal's character and went beyond what was written in the script, because the dialogues seem to indicate that writing is constant. And so, that level of depth would take time for anyone replacing him.

I saw a clip from Avinash's recent interview and he mentioned that he is still understanding the graph of the character so I have personally put him on a probationary period of a month, because after that the characterization would probably become more solid, and that would be his version of Kunal.

As much as I hope that Avinash's Kunal gets better and becomes more nuanced with time, there is a little part in me that is like, "Bring back Kunal 1.0 back and I won't mind forgetting that this ever happened", but I know I need to make peace with this and start seeing it as a different version/season of their story. KuKu story ended with Humma and now, it's time for KuhuNal.

I've watched the episodes a couple of times and I still can't even figure out what Kunal is trying to convey to Kuhu. They should try to use more words now to convey his thoughts because it will take a while to understand what the new actor is trying to convey. Giving it a month is a good idea.

This Kunal 2.0 is a lousy husband. I know it's only been two episodes in since he's made an appearance, but my god, he's terrible! It's like the writers have taken the flattest interpretation out there for his character and applied it to the writing (worships his bhai, bhabhi, and mother, is a workaholic, and has the emotional quotient of a rat). He starts off with snubbing Kuhu when he first comes, and then only pays attention to her when Mishti first gestures towards her, and then when she literally pulls them together. He snubs her again at the dinner table in front of his maami and mama, and before anyone says that it was justified because Kuhu fired a shot at Mishti, there were 100 other ways for Kunal to move on from the topic instead of berating her like an immature child (and did anyone see that look of anger/annoyance he shot Ketki at the dinner table? What the hell was that?). He snubs her again when he's talking to Abir later, and she comes over. I know that for Kunal, Abir has always come first, but don't tell me that this dude has stayed away from his wife for three months and did not miss seeing her. Like, please. He snubs her yet again at the boutique where they go wedding shopping, and that time was the most infuriating. Kuhu asked him a 100% valid question, and instead of getting all condescending about it, he could've taken five seconds to explain to her that he had to quarantine after getting back in the country. And wait! Last I checked, you were still allowed to have a phone with you when you quarantine, and you're telling me that Kunal did not even bother telling Kuhu that he had returned to India? And what does Kunal mean by Kuhu is always in "Kuhuland"? She's always thinking about him, Ketu's wedding, and the rest of the family! Dude, give me a break.

If the writers and actors are trying to sell all of this as "nok-jhok", then it's definitely not working, unless "nok-jhok" also means being rude, condescending, and putting on a show of a mulish superiority complex to put down your wife. This track has just proven that this show is incapable of selling a consistent narrative on what healthy relationships are supposed to look like. From Abir cutting Mishti off from the rest of his family in his bullheaded haste to "protect" her, to Kuhu being left to simmer in her own frustrations because god forbid a certain someone spends some time with her to listen to her and validate her feelings for once, this sasural of MishKu's is proving to be the most toxic hellhole I've ever seen.

This Kunal can be Abir's Nanko, Mishti's devar, Meenu's munna, Parul's beta, but he is not Kuhu's husband. Kuhu's husband would not treat her like an extreme inconvenience that he could not care less about. I have no idea who the hell he is.

@bold italics - perhaps it was supposed to be annoyance at her getting pregnant before marriage? Kunal is a little straight-laced that way, but I agree it wasn't very clear.

@bold - I was thinking the same! And I'm still confused about the way he's behaving with Kuhu, especially if he doesn't even know about the letters or coffee pills. If he does, then why hasn't he said anything? Or has he? I hope they show us exactly what this behavior is about!

Love this dissecting rant! I absolutely agree. I think Kunal and Avinash need to get back in the zone, the former because he's absent from home and the latter because he's new. We need to be patient and see if there's a valid justification for this behaviour. I'm sure they did a credible screen test of Kaveri and Avinash before casting him. So let's wait and watch for now. It's possible we could be disappointed but a lot of us weren't happy with Ruslaan and his "it's a joke" initially and now everyone's appreciating him. So maybe it's just that.

I'm in two minds about Abir dealing with the whole "his mom not accepting Mishti" thing. His mom makes very strong and mule headed opinions and doesn't change them, like when Mishti did so much to save Abir from his father and even that didn't make her see how perfect Mishti is for Abir. She made Mishti sacrifice her family for a "sister" she "hates" and Mishti did just that. Even then she calls Mishti a "ghar todne waali." I mean how much should they try and till when?

That's a good point, maybe we'll get used to this actor soon. The behavior does need some justification though.

I don't think Abir can really trust anyone in this family with what they're hiding, but all the secrecy is also putting more pressure on Mishti. Still, they have shown MishBir are dealing with things better now.

Absolutely feel everyone's frustration on this thread. Kunal acted like Kuhu is an annoyance that he tries to avoid at all costs. If I didn't know about it, I really wouldn't think KuhuNal were married.

I think the writing has been poor because Kunal literally didn't give two shits about Kuhu when he entered Rajvansh Sadan. As pointed out, he only went to her once Mishti nudged him. Whenever Kuhu was in the scene, he just looked SO over it, like he couldn't wait to be away from her. It's just confounding because as far as we know, nothing has happened between them to warrant this behaviour.

@journal- I feel you. That boarding pass scene was in no way cute or endearing. I know ITV loves nokjhok but the main ingredient of nokjhok is underlying affection and playfulness. I didn't see any of it in Kunal's behaviour.

At this rate, Kuhu is as important as Uma Patel to Kunal. How can a husband who is in love with his wife want to avoid her after being away from her for 3 months? I don't get it 😳

I am gonna chalk it down to poor writing for the most part because they have always written Kuhu to be the lowest priority for Kunal. For the nokjhok scene, I don't mind if Avinash takes time to settle in since it must be difficult to portray a coconut like Kunal. I am sure he will give it his best shot. Meanwhile, writers, please do better. The writing is the backbone of a story. Stop giving us this kind of crap and calling it nokjhok.

Getting into Kunal mode does take some work. Personifying a coconut is tough and Ritvik did an exemplary job but it took a little time. I mean, I started watching the show this year and I had to catch up with all of 2019 and before that I read all the appreciation posts in this forum with people praising Ritvik. I didn't understand the hype in the initial episodes and then I got it. Avinash might be the same.

Ritvik-Kunal or Kunal 1.0 being quite taken with Kuhu and unknowingly thinking and caring about her but at the same time claiming to not be in love with her; Kunal 1.0 not understanding Mishti but at the same time getting along quite well with her during their courtship (the few times they met without any Meenu interference); Kunal 1.0 worshipping BigBen but at the same time being subtly amused when Abir/Maami/Mishku called her out (secretly acknowledging her controlling nature): all these nuances were brilliantly portrayed by Ritvik. We should give Avinash a chance to get there.

I agree that currently it looks like Kunal is just tolerating Kuhu and she's just another Uma Patel in his life. Maybe the writers want to wait a bit before writing romantic moments for KuhuNal, bedroom scenes and the like, so that the actors get comfortable with each other since Avinash picks up Kunal's story in between.

I think I know what the writers are planning, to explain Kunal's strange coldness towards Kuhu ever since he returned. Kuhu had a huge fight with Mishti that day at the resort, KuKu left the resort with Abir leaving Mishti behind. Then later it was Kunal who urged Abir to go back for Mishti. Then he came home with Kuhu and soon after left for abroad.

Later he heard from his family that Abir and Mishti have not returned home since that day at the resort, he thinks AM left RJV sadan because of Kuhu. He blames Kuhu for his brother leaving home. Before Kunal's return wasnt there an article saying Kunal will warn Kuhu to not interfere with AM's life? Im guessing in next few episodes they will show Kunal telling Kuhu shes responsible for bro and bhabhi staying away for 3 months.

Thats why Kunal is mad at Kuhu, not replying to her calls, not messaging her, ....this is what writers are planning.....thats what I think (real reason was actor quitting the show but this is how they will manage Kunal's brusque behavior)

As for affair, I dont think Kunal the workaholic has the time or interest to look at other women....except Uma Patel of course 😆

Another thing I noticed, Kunal touched Parul Ma's feet and hugged her, but he didnt touch BB's feet or hug her.....hints at his changed attitude towards BB, Kunal had 3 months for introspection, he seems to have changed,

I feel like I just found the answer I would like to believe in. Cheers!

Par pata nahi what the writers have in mind.

What you have said makes sense but I hope they do not destroy KuhuNal. I am really looking forward to their storyline. I want them to make some progress - a mini separation, understand each other, value each other's opinion, have some discussions, arguments and then also manaofy each other. I don't want the KuhuNal relationship to be affected by the ripples which stem from the MishBir relationship. I hope the writers do not stoop to give second hand treatment to the couple, which I am afraid right now might happen. Also, writers can we have a dark KuhuNal OS where Kunal cheats on Kuhu? I am intrigued by the idea to see how it would play out as there is so much scope for both the characters to touch their innate darkness. It would make such a wonderful read.

That is what me too felt. Also someone from family would have informed him about Kuhu spiking the coffee drink after Abhir's confession.

For 90% I don't think they will make Kunal too as his father. He knows what his mother and Ben baa went through.

But rest of 10% I can't trust cvs. They will suddenly turn anyone positive to grey or negative for their favorite character or actor.

And if they are going by affair angle then it would be good if it was only Kuku's misconception. Don't want them to tarnish Kunal's character.
