Part 1
“All i know is this: when i am with you i feel completely alive. When i am with you i get a feeling which i can never get anywhere else. When i look into your eyes, i feel an unusual serenity. When i talk with you i feel a beautiful calmness that engulfs me. I feel i have reached my destination. And when i hug you, i feel home!”
― Avijeet Das
We human beings never like to talk about our pain. It’s an emotion that is common to all of us. One of my favorite characters from the DC universe ‘the Flash’ said “No matter how rich you are no matter how fast you are you can never outrun pain”. We all have different ways of dealing with our pain. Some of us like Mishti let it all out cry for a bit and then dust ourselves and get back up and go on with our lives. Some like Kuhu bury their pain and emotions behind the façade of a fictional life on social media. Their hashtag and story game is lit but no one can grasp what’s really beneath all that makeup and glamour. Some like Kunal refuse to acknowledge that they can grieve and instead only resort to displaying one emotion that is anger. We do have a considerable amount of people like this in real life who tend to give their pain to other people both by physical and mental abuse. Finally, some of us are like Abir who bury their pain so deep within themselves that it becomes a part of them. They are the most cheerful people you would ever meet always trying to crack a joke , always trying to make other people smile. It’s like they are the joker with a permanent smile plastered on their face which kind of becomes like their mask but as one of my other favorite characters from the DC universe said
“You wear a mask for so long that you forget the person you are underneath the mask” Batman
To the world and his family Abir is a carefree, happy go lucky guy who bends the rules in his favor and doesn’t live by the norm. Hence, his Nanu calls him gadhea(donkey) his Maa laments that he does not take up his actual responsibilities his sisters looks up to him and his brother believes that he is a gullible soul who only knows how to paint and do other basic, small things. In short apart from Ketu no one believes that Abir is the quintessential good son of the family. He wears so many masks, plays so many roles and yet in a family full of people he still feels alone. In front of his own family he still feels the need to guard his true emotions. A person is supposed to be real in front of their family instead he choses to conceal his pain.
Jo dard chupana chahte hai
Vo dard par pehra rakhte hai
Padh lena koi gam chehre pe
Chehre par chehra rakhte Ha
Apno ke khaatir apno se
Karni padti aiyari hai.
Misthi has been the only person who has seen through his mask. She is the only one who has bothered to check up on him. Remember their first ever Mandir scene. Where Abir tells her that she needs to let go of her past that day she also told him “Tum apnay baba ko yaad kar kay itna sad mat hua karo” Abir instantly goes quiet and then changes the subject. On another occasion when Kekti’s marriage breaks and Mish can’t seem to contact him since he doesn’t have a phone for the first time ever she sneaks out of her room. He is at the camp site lamenting about his dad as a past memory assaults his brain. Young Abir is pleading with his dad to stay back but his dad doesn’t listen with tear stricken eyes Abir says “Baba agar aaj aap hotay na toh yay sab nahi hota. Kidar hain aap Baba aap wapis kyun nahi ahayi” than he recites another beautiful shayri
“Peechay say awaaz mat dena
Hua khel khatam banjaron ka”
Right on cue though Mish keeps a comforting hand on his shoulders and he just melts into her embrace and hugs her. The day he gives her his first genuine compliment “Tum awesome ho” because this girl decided to venture all alone at night just to check up on him. At this point they had just become friends but not only Mish makes him laugh and forget his worries that day but she even deliberately loses a race for him. From that day we get to know that when it comes to Abir, the strong, bold Mish is willing to give up on things just to please him.
Episode Part Analysis
Now let’s dig in to my favorite scene from the today’s episode. The scene starts with Mish standing near the window. Both of them are still in their wet clothes and Abir comes up to her and hands over her glasses that he so gently removed in that oh so gorgeous Iktara scene.
“Misthi, Sorry agar mainay tumhay uncomfortable feel karaya” he apologizes for making her feel uncomfortable. Really Abir why do you keep on raising my standards of an ideal man. We don’t see an MCP ML who like to dominate and manhandle the FL here we see a ML who actually cares about a girls comfort and actually asks for forgiveness. Both these babies are so pure and soft they don’t have any ego between them. In return Mish apologizes for coming to his room without his permission and he goes like are you mad girl like don’t even go there. You already have my heart, room is such an inconsequential thing in front of that. He however, goes on to tell her how he always used to celebrate this festival alone as sometimes even Kunal wouldn’t come but this time she was there and now with her he doesn’t feel alone rather he feels that from now on she will always be there by his side celebrating the festival with him.
“Har saal main Ganesh Utsav akelay bana ta kabi kabar toh Naanko bhi nahi aha ta lakin iss baar tum thi aur mujhay aisay feeling ho rahi hain kay abb kay baar har baar utsav par tum meray saath ho gi”
Notice how his voice is almost choking and how his eyes are betraying him. He says all that but Mish can see through his mask. She goes like “ Abir baat kiya hain” she asks him to tell him the actual thing that’s bothering him.
“Yay festival meray liay bohot bohot special hain” notice his voice modulation here with so much reverence he says that this festivity is very special to him.
She knows why “Kyun kay Ganesh Utsav tumharay Baba banatay thay” because in Champanar he saw how hard Abir had worked to construct his father’s dream school. These both always astound me on the way they are able to understand each other. Do you all remember how Mish never told him about Naman and her family history but somehow Abir was able to connect the dots similarly Abir has always been so tight lipped about his Baba yet this girl still knows the importance his father has in Abir’s life.
“Who har saal aik choti si murti banatay thay… 11 day tak pooja hoti thi aur uss kay baad vissargan mujhay nahi pata tha kay aik din vissargan kay baad Bappa kay saath saath Papa bhi chalay jayay gay Bappa toh har saal wapis aha jatay hain par Papa kabi nahi wapis ahayay. Uss kay baad Maa nay ghar par Ganesh ji ki stapna karnay say mana kar diya lakin main phir bhi har saal kisi na kisi bahnay say yay utsav bana hi layata tha. Yaar I really miss Papa bohot yaad aha ti hain kabi kabi un ki”
Notice how in the start with child like innocence Abir explains how he and his father used to celebrate the festival but than his voice drops an octave as he tells her that one day his father just left and never came back due to which his Maa stopped celebrating the festival but he never did. He still celebrates it as this makes him feel connected to his Baba remember how in last episode he said “That Baba nay mujay aap say milwaya tha aur mujay yakeen hain kay aik din aap hi mujay Baba say milway gay”. Then his mask slips completely and we see the small child who yearns for his father’s love. He tells her that he really misses his father and in this scene Shaheer Sheikh literally made me cry. Such amazing acting. Rhea Sharma is equally good even without a few dialogues whenever the camera pans to her you see how intently Mish is listening to his every word and how she seems to connect with his pain. She knows he is overwhelmed so she moves ahead and places both her hands on his hands and urges him to talk about his father.
“Apnay Baba kay baray main aur batao na” notice on how a small smile graces Abir’s face here because no one has actually given his them liberty to talk about his father. His Maa has always silenced him by citing that Kunal will be hurt and even Naano and Kaushil once said that he should just forget and move on from his Baba’s topic but here is this girl who wants him to talk about his Baba. No wonder he loves her so much. It’s like a dam breaks as Abir goes on to explain about his father and the lessons he learned from him. He tells her how he really used to believe in Ganpati Jee and than we see a flashback of chotu Abir with his dad who is explain him about God. The whole monologue is beautiful as Abir’s father tells him how God never shies away from bestowing His blessings on His followers and how He always reassures His followers that He is there and how in spite of being all mighty and powerful He still uses his mouse as his aid.
“Buray log buray adatay yay hi who rasi hain jo humay pakray rakh ti hain Abir” My god these dialogues how true they are we humans are always trapped by the evil around us and the evil within ourselves. Through this we get to see how sorted Abir’s father is which makes me wonder why did he actually leave?
“Mujay kehtay thay Abir tumhay unhi ki tarah ban na hain sab ki madad karni hain sab kay cheary par khusi lay kar ahani hain unho nay mujh say yay sab kaha toh sahi par bina sikhaya chalay gaye” all his philanthropic values were instilled in him by his father. He laments how he never taught him these things but the fool doesn’t realize that how how much of an affect his father actually had on him. The NGO those awards I am sure when Abir and his Baba meet his Baba will be proud of the man Abir has become. Notice though how one thread is common Abir is still stuck on how his father left him “Chod kar chalay gay” the little boy has never gotten over that pain. Mish places her hands right above his elbows silently reassuring him that she is here for him. Rhea’s expression here the way Mish gulps and looks tearfully but firmly at her man was amazingly portrayed. Suddenly he realizes that he has let his mask slip and he instantly puts it back on.
“Okay you… you go now. Humay kisi nay saath dekh liya toh” he tells her that she should go as someone might see them together. This is what he has always done push people away because he so very afraid to let them in. He is scared because than he will hope the person he let in would stay with him forever but when his dad left he realized that people always leave. Hence, he decided never to share his pain he never let anyone in until his angry chorni just waltzed into his life and now she refuses to budge.
“Nahi Nahi Abir tum theek nahi ho” She tells him that boy please I know you ain’t okay so I am not going anywhere.
“Humaray baray main koi jaan ta nahi hain” he fake smiles
Misthi than tells him that Kunal knows.
“Kunal jaan ta hain” Yass our girl too is finally telling Abir stuff. Abri is shocked and asks her how does she know and Mish remembers her last conversation with Kunal and says that she thinks that Kunal is doubtful about them.
“Abir I think tumay uss say baat kar lainay chaiyay” she tells him that he should have the talk with his idiot little bro.
“You are right iss say pehlay koi ussay kuch aur kahay mujay khud baat kar lainay chaiyay” He agrees with her.
The next scene is my favorite Mishbir hug ever. As Mish is about to leave he grabs her and wraps himself in her embrace. Notice on how this hug is different.
Here Abir is holding on to her for dear life. Mish is on her tippy toes as she nuzzles his head with her and notice her hand on his back she lightly keeps on patting him trying to reassure him that everything will be fine and she is here for him. Notice the sukoon/contentment on his face because you know you are in true love when you don’t hesitate from showing your vulnerability in front of his partner.
To sum up this part. Remember how Abir once said:
“Ghar woh hota hain jahan chot aik ko lagay aur dard sab ko ho”
Here Mish is truly showing that she is his pyara sa ghar as she is willing to share both his pain, his sorrow and his happiness with him.
Abir once said “khaas hain itna yun samjho ke ghar pe ana jaana hai, dard...dard toh dost purana hai and here Mish is showing him that “Saach toh sirf pyar hain saathi”
Remember how Abir said “Yay kon chala hain dheeray say ahahat ka rang sunehra hain”
Well now “ Dabey paon gham saaray mujho ko chod kar jaatay hain .. tab mujh ko khabar hoti hain shahid tum ahanay wali ho”
The love Mishbir has is beyond anything I have ever seen on ITV. Words truly fail me when it comes to them.
Dard Mere Woh Bhula Hi Gayaa
Kuch Aisa Asar Huaa
Jeena Mujhe Phir Se Woh Sikha Raha
Hmm.. Jaise Baarish Kar De Tar
Yaa Marham Dard Par
Koi Mujhko Yun Mila Hai
Jaise Banjare Ko Ghar
