Note: This fan fiction can be an independent read, but I had originally written it as a prequel to The Pendant, which is another one of my OS.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

A hand grabbed me. I turned around to see Jugnu. “Apki chitti,” he said over the noise of the barat, with a sense of urgency.

I frowned. Who would be delivering a letter like this?

I opened the folded note - because that’s what it was a note. There was no envelope. Just a piece of paper; it had been ripped from somewhere I noted as I looked at the jagged edges at the bottom.

Naa Hum Bewafaa Hai

Naa Pyar Hai Kam Darmiyaan

Par Apni Taqdeerein

Hain Bilkul Hi Judaa*.

It wasn’t signed. But it didn’t need to be.

I knew who it was from. My heart was thundering inside my chest. What the f**k?

I looked up when I felt a smaller hand on my arm. Softer.

“Mish…” I started but my voice died when I looked at the face of Maasi. Her eyes were red, her tears in abundance as she stared at me.

“Kunal is gone.”

My world crumbled around me. The noise deafening as I drowned.

The music had stopped. Everyone was staring at Maasi. The groom was gone. There was no need for the music.

Maasi grabbed my hand and pulled me forward. Towards the house. I don’t know how she dragged me forward because it felt like my body was made of lead.

I turned to look at Jugnu. He looked at the gates and I wondered if Mishti was there. Even though, I knew she was not.

Mishti was not here. She was gone.

————————————————————————————————

“Yeh mera wada hai aur Abir wade nahi torta hai,” I said as I glared at the woman who gave me birth.

My voice didn’t sound like my own. But then again, I didn’t feel like myself either. All I knew was that my life was falling apart and in the middle of the chaos was the woman who should have sheltered me.

The betrayal ran deep inside and gutted me, but I couldn’t dwell on it.

I needed to find her.

I needed her.

————————————————————————————————

My fingers was dialling on the phone she made me get.

“Bharat nikal gayi?” Came her excited voice.

“Where’s Mishti?”

“I don’t know,” she said after a pause, “ I don’t care.”

“Kuhu,’ I ground; my voice hard as steel, “where is she?”

“Gone. From our lives. Finally.”

“Kuhu, if you love Kunal, you will tell me where Mishti is. Right now.”

The silence stretched for far too long before she said, “ Mumbai.”

I felt my heart drop. She’s leaving Rajkot. She’s leaving me.

“What time?”

“She’s probably boarding now. Thank god.”

I hung up.

——————————————————————————————————

I was a mad man when I reached her boarding gate.

“See, Sir,” came the voice next to me, “ the plane has left.” His walkie talkie awoke and the security guy busied himself, but he never left my side.

“But, Mishti didn’t….” Added Heli. Her voice chirpy as she came up behind me. I turned to look at her, but her eyes were in front and her mouth wide with a smile.

I followed her gaze.

There standing in front of me was the woman I seeked.

She was wrapped in a burnt orange maxi dress; her ever present brown belt with what she threatened me and her eyes red rimmed behind her glasses.

My eyes burnt and I knew the tears wouldn’t stop. I rubbed my face as I advanced towards her.

Her knees buckled and she dropped to the ground crying. I crouched down in front of her and grabbed her hands with no intention to let go. Ever.

“I’m sorry, Abir,” she cried as she looked up at me.

“Me too.”

“I’m sorry I didn’t tell you.”

“I’m sorry I didn’t press you for more.” I knew something was bothering her, but I didn’t press too hard. I was focused on Nanko and his feelings. I was being pulled in several directions and I let my focus drift. When Mishti pushed me away, I allowed myself to be pushed.

I got up. As soon as I had pulled her off of the floor, she was wrapped in my arms. I lifted her off of the floor. Her arms wrapped around my neck as we sobbed into each other’s necks.

“Your mom…” she sobbed in my ear.

“I know,” I soothed her. “She put the condition…”

Mishti shook her head. “ That was part of the plan…” she said.

“What plan?” I asked her as I set her down.

She told me how my mother wanted to break the Maheswaris. She wanted to break Bade Papa’s pride. She blackmailed Mishti. She had been blackmailing Mishti for weeks.

I felt hot lava running through my veins as I grabbed Mishti’s hand. “Let’s go.”

She shook her head. “I can’t.” “ Not right now. I’ll come back when the wedding is over.”

“Mishti, she played you. Come with me, I’ll tell you everything on the way.”

I grabbed her hand as we ran out of the airport.

Hey everyone,

I clearly wrote this OS a while ago ( since that's not what happened with Jugnu), but I thought I'd post it anyway.

This story feels a little adhoora to me. Not sure why so feedback is appreciated.

Thank you to everyone who's read the sequel, The Pendent and given me feedback.

This was a both heart wrenching as well as heartwarming at the same time ! You have captured Abir’s and Mishti’s emotions perfectly and the upcoming airport scene was beautifully written! And I assure you it wasn’t adhoora at all ! 👏❤️
