Unless I’ve missed some scenes in between, as far as I know, Kuhu has constantly called Mishti boring and asked her to change her appearance, her clothes, her personality. So I’m not sure why you are expecting her to tell Mishti that she doesn’t need to change herself for anyone. Only time Kuhu has thought about the topic is in her own context of not wanting to change her hair and to be accepted as she is. It helps that she is otherwise so confident about her own looks and hotness that comments on appearance don’t get her down much. Lol

Abir said what I was thinking - this is not the same girl who stood up against the society for what was right. This is not the girl who he grew to love.

If she was, Mishti would have told Kunal a straight no. I just hope she doesn't go through with this and retains her glasses. If she does it LL be a wrong message sent out to the audience and that's not done.

FWIW I don’t think Mishti will go through with the surgery. Precap makes her seem thoughtful about it. And the fact that Naanu has recorded Abir’s words about it might play a part in giving Mishti some food for thought later on.

I think the issue they are trying to highlight is that sometimes even the most confident of girls face extreme self doubt when it comes to marriage. People do strange things to conform and be accepted when it comes to wanting a successful marriage/wedding. They are willing to change their very existence for it.

Kuhu hit the nail on the head. It will not be long before Mishti loses all her self worth and starts questioning if she is pretty etc. This happens to girls when they are asked to change themselves. At first they go ahead with it but along with that comes a questions as to whether this means they are not good as is and pretty as is in this case.

And let’s not forget Mishti has Abir and bade papa in her life who will stand up for her. Many girls don’t have that friend who will stand up to their in-laws/ spouse.

I am very happy that this kind of a track is brought up👏

Yep, that’s exactly how it goes. It’s quite sad to see how society so deliberately murders a girl’s sense of self worth.

It starts with one small change supposedly for a “practical” reason and soon snowballs into an identity crisis for the girl who loses all confidence in what she has been all her life. Amazing how much power this phase of getting married can hold over people. Making them question everything they were until that point.

Gosh the dumbesss was mind numbing today

Lol I think everything happened too fast for Mishti to process. She was still in shock over Kunal saying all this to her and then Abir showed up to interrupt.

Kunal was essentially talking over her in the entire scene and claiming she already agrees with him and it’s a joint decision. And Mishti couldn’t figure out how to interrupt and push back to call him a liar in front of his own brother 🤷‍♀️😂

It’s been obvious since some epis that Mishti is hesitating in speaking her mind in front of Kunal especially now that the Rishta has been fixed. I think she keeps quiet also for her Badi Maa’s sake. It’s a denial of the glaring red flags. She will have a rude awakening at some point. Lol

If girls get eye surgery before they marry more power to them. Like you said, the issue is how much of it is their own choice. I'd argue many dont want to wax their bikini lines but end up having to. Where does one draw the line?

Getting eye surgery and a bikini wax are not on the same level in my opinion. The latter is a grooming issue while the former is a medical procedure.

A medical procedure denotes a more fundamental change. Having weak eyesight is not the same as having some hair on one part of your body. To claim someone is not good enough to be a wife because of poor eyesight is not the same as someone getting a bikini wax for a honeymoon.

I’m not saying that desi society has a monopoly on shallowness. Yes, cosmetic procedures are done by women all over the world but the extent to which desi society constantly scrutinizes a girl for every little zit on her face is what’s tiresome. The way people at a salon are constantly passing comments on every bit of your appearance as something that needs “fixing” and now eye surgery being lumped in as a “quick fix” like a facial that every girl gets at the salon. Umm no 👎. Not to me.

This is such an interesting topic. I can't comment though till I watch the epi though, but I'll be back to comment later. I'll probs just edit this comment to post my thoughts.

I don't think it's accurate to say Kuhu does not like Mishti. We've seen many times how Kuhu does things to cheer Mishti up like baking a cake after her accident or bringing her favourite ice-cream for her when she is upset. KuShti have a Tom&Jerry equation- they fight and never express their affection for each other but are attached to each other. They frequently team up. Also, the biggest indicator IMO is the fact that Kuhu did not express her disappointment over Mishti-Kunal ONCE to Mishti. In fact, it's strange that Mishti did not talk to Kuhu about how she felt or if she was okay with it despite knowing how excited Kuhu was about the rishta. Neither did anyone else in the Maheshwari family.

Is Kuhu jealous of Mishti? Yes. She resents her because she thinks Mishti cut into her share of affection but at the same time, Kuhu never tries to harm Mishti. I think the point of their relationship is that though they don't acknowledge what they mean to each other, the love is there. There was another instance where Kuhu sees a text from Kunal to Mishti and contemplates deleting it but does not. This shows that though Kuhu gets destructive thoughts, she does not act on them. Or how she immediately hugged Mishti after the Goddhana announcement.

Kuhu didn't say anything different to what she usually says to Mishti today, especially since she didn't know the context of Mishti's question, like mridhu said. I think her reaction would be different if she saw Kunal's approach to it. Kuhu also supported Mishti when she brought up the courtship.

On topic, it's actually a very prevalent notion. There is a very narrow standard of beauty and if you don't fit into it, God bless you. This is the reason why brides and even grooms now pay a bomb for skin lightening treatments, lasik surgery, bleaching of all sorts of body parts etc.

There's nothing wrong with lasik surgery in principle- I want to get it done myself. The issue is that Mishti is not interested but is getting pressurised into it because of what Kunal or that nurse said. The nurse is actually your average parlour wali who will comment on everything ranging from your weight to facial hair. People in these industries have degrees in selling products by targeting people's insecurities. They will make you feel like a troll.

Also, the show's depiction of this is super accurate 'cause I see a lot of people dissing Rhea's look on the show and demanding a makeover. I don't get the need for it. Mishti is a girl who likes wearing modest clothes and her glasses, why should she change just to be someone else's idea of 'beautiful'? Does this mean there can be no love for people who are not 'conventionally good-looking'? Does one have to be uber fashionable and attractive to find love?

Lol nowhere in my post did I say that Kuhu doesn’t like Mishti or that she wants to harm her 😕. So I have no idea where you came up with these extrapolations 🤷‍♀️

I talked about how self absorbed and superficial Kuhu is. Which she clearly is.

The equation between the sisters and whether or not there is some “hidden love” between them is a seperate issue. What’s obvious is that Kuhu is mostly irritated with Mishti and is constantly commenting on her appearance. They only seem to come together for random dance performances 🤷‍♀️😂. Otherwise there is no substance between the sisters.

Mishti and Abir have both been insensitive about Kuhu’s feelings with Rishta switch. And that is a broad pattern of the generally superficial levels of writing in the show IMO.

Thanks for the post.

I really can’t decide how to express my displeasure over Mishti’s behaviour. Is she the same who wanted Pre marital courtship?

Out of all the charecters Mishti’s ch. is the most confused one..She talks big but ends up being a typical submissive kind of a person who could not stand up for herself.

How could she let Kunal decide whether she should go ahead with eye surgery or not?

More than Mishti Kuhu ‘s ch. is consistent and well written.

I can’t help but admit I am not feeling any heroine vibes on seeing Mishti who conveniently outdistanced Abir for interfering in her and Kunal’s matter! She turns out to be a selfish, self cantered ( she did not care for Kuhu’s feelings since the begining of her match fixing with Kunal.) girl, not next door.

Finally Mishti and Kunal are made for each other...in every way. Kunal also is like Mishti..selfish,changing colours as per the situation,....

Sorry if I hurt any one here by disowning Mishti. She is not right for my Abeer...until she realises his worth ..

Lmao...err...subtext? When you say Kuhu does not share an affectionate bond with her sister and then mention how she is always dissing Mishti, it doesn't exactly imply Kuhu is in love with Mishti, does it? 😆

Superficial? Yes, Kuhu is superficial. That is clear. Self-absorbed- I don't think so. She has moments where she is self-absorbed but she would have definitely created a ruckus about the rishta exchange or taunted Mishti about it if she only cared about herself. The ice-cream, text and cake examples also show that Kuhu can rise above her own feelings. Though Kuhu is overcome by jealousy, she does not give in to it.

The point about Kuhu not wanting to harm Mishti was to illustrate that there is actually affection her heart for Mishti.

Kuhu disses Mishti and Mishti disses her back. They're in an epic rap battle all the time lol. Their dynamic is interesting and I agree that it is not explored as much as it should be.

Why is Kuhu's attitude self-absorption and Mishti's insensitivity to Kuhu's feelings poor writing? Abir doesn't really spend much time with Kuhu, so I don't blame him if he hasn't noticed it. Mishti lives with Kuhu and knew Kuhu really wanted the rishta with Kunal to work out and she never once asked her how she felt about the rishta exchange. Mishti also totally forgot Abir came to save her in the fire and did not even thank him. Today, she was rude to Abir in the heat of the moment 'cause she didn't want another fight between herself and Kunal. Good that she realised her mistake and hope she makes up for it.

Lol not loving someone is not the same as saying you “wish harm” on someone. Which is what you chose to extrapolate from my words even after I clarified that I never said that.

Anyways, clearly we have markedly different ways of understanding Kuhu so let’s leave it at that 🤷‍♀️
