Part 4

Armaan's quest to find Abhira had led him to unexpected places, but none quite as surprising as the quaint school nestled amidst the lush greenery of Mussorie's outskirts. As he stepped onto the school grounds, the laughter of children filled the air, mingling with the gentle rustle of leaves and the distant chirping of birds. The school itself was a charming sight—a cluster of modest buildings adorned with colorful murals and vibrant artwork, a testament to the creative spirit that thrived within its walls.

Making his way through the bustling campus, Armaan's heart skipped a beat as he caught sight of a familiar figure on the sprawling lawn, surrounded by a group of enthusiastic children.

Rohit.

A whirlwind of emotions swept through Armaan, leaving him momentarily stunned. Relief flooded his senses, mingling with disbelief and a profound sense of gratitude. Seeing Rohit alive and well stirred a tumultuous mixture of joy and apprehension within him, for he had long believed his brother lost to the sands of time.

Yet, beneath the surface of his relief lay a lingering pang of guilt—an awareness that somehow it must have been him who had pushed Rohit away, by not being the supportive brother he needed to be. As he drew nearer, the weight of their shared history bore down upon him, filling him with a sense of remorse. But amidst the tumult of his emotions, there was also a glimmer of hope—a silent acknowledgment of the bond that had endured despite the passage of time and the trials they had faced... Now everything would be fine. Their family would be complete again.

Armaan's heart raced as he closed the distance between them, his steps faltering with uncertainty yet propelled by a desperate longing to make amends. As he drew nearer, the children dispersed, leaving Armaan standing before Rohit, his heart racing with emotion. Without a word, Armaan enveloped Rohit in a tight embrace, his arms trembling with the weight of years of separation and unanswered questions, his heart overflowing with relief and gratitude. "Rohit, I... I… you’re alive," Armaan murmured, his voice trembling with emotion. "I've missed you so much. We have all missed you so much."

Rohit returned the embrace, his own eyes shimmering with unshed tears. "I'm sorry, bhaiyya," he murmured, his voice barely audible above the gentle rustle of leaves. "I never meant to cause you pain. I thought this was best for everyone."

Armaan pulled back, his gaze searching Rohit's face for any hint of explanation.

"Please, Rohit," he pleaded, his voice tinged with desperation. "Come back home. We need you."

But Rohit's expression remained solemn, his eyes filled with a sorrow that cut Armaan to the core. "I can't, bhaiyya," he said quietly, his voice tinged with regret. " I can't bear to see you suffer because of me."

Armaan felt a knot form in his stomach, his heart sinking with the weight of Rohit's words. "But why?" he whispered, his voice trembling with emotion. "Why did you leave?"

Rohit's gaze softened, "I knew about you and Ruhi," he said softly, his words like a dagger to Armaan's heart. "I couldn't bear to stand in the way of your happiness. It’s okay that you loved each other, it's love... you don't plan these things. I was the one who came in your way, and it was for my sake that you were sacrificing your own happiness. That's all you have ever done, sacrifice... So for once, I did that. I took myself out of the picture. And I'm okay, bhaiyya, I'm happy. I think art was my calling all along. I have been travelling to various hill stations, and I've been fine... perhaps even better than fine. I am finding my happiness."

Armaan's breath caught in his throat, his mind reeling with the implications of Rohit's revelation. He felt a surge of guilt wash over him, his chest constricting with the weight of his own betrayal."I'm so sorry, Rohit," he cried, his voice breaking with emotion. "I never meant to hurt you. I never meant for any of this to happen. Ruhi and I... it was never that deep but I realised this too late. All I wanted was for you and Ruhi to be happy, to be together forever. I genuinely thought that would happen."

Rohit's expression softened, his eyes filled with a quiet understanding. "Stop apologising, bhaiyya," he said gently, his voice tinged with sadness. "And stop being the way you are - too good for your own good. You and Ruhi are meant for each other. We barely even managed to become friends. You don't have to apologise for anything. And I am no-one to forgive you."

Armaan felt tears prick at the corners of his eyes, as the words escaped him, "You're wrong, Rohit... and so was I. I don't love Ruhi," he confessed, his voice barely above a whisper. "I love Abhira."

As Armaan poured his heart out, confessing his love for Abhira with a raw honesty that pierced through the lingering shadows of doubt, Rohit's initial disbelief slowly gave way to a flicker of belief. He studied Armaan's earnest expression, searching for any trace of uncertainty, but found only the undeniable truth reflected in his brother's eyes. A desperate longing to be with Abhira emanated from Armaan's every word and gesture, a yearning so palpable, so heartwrenching...

As he observed the depth of Armaan's feelings, a smile tugged at the corners of Rohit's lips. Armaan was a lousy matchmaker because he had tried to force a match where there was no love to begin with - Rohit Poddar would show him how it's done. Armaan had no idea just how fervently and passionately Abhira loved him, because she too had never told him. These two fools deserved each other.

Meanwhile, Ruhi's journey would take her down a path of self-discovery and redemption. As she grappled with the depths of her despair, she found herself at a crossroads—a choice between succumbing to the darkness or finding the strength to rise above it.

In the quiet solitude of her car, Ruhi's tears flowed freely as she drove to her therapist, her heart heavy with the weight of her own insecurities and regrets. But amidst the pain, there was a glimmer of determination, a spark of hope that flickered within her —a silent echo of Abhira's unwavering resilience and determination in the face of adversity. She remembered the strength and courage Abhira had displayed, forging ahead on her own path despite the obstacles that stood in her way. Drawing upon Abhira's example, Ruhi found the courage to confront her own inner demons and seek the help she so desperately needed and she forged ahead, determined to reclaim her sense of self and find solace amidst the darkness that had once consumed her.

Previously, when she had gone to the therapist, it was at the behest of her family, and all her thoughts had been consumed by Armaan, so that was all she spoke about. She never opened up about her childhood trauma, the loss of her parents, and how the way she had been sheltered and protected by her family, had led her to become the fragile, dependent person she had become... and perhaps even someone who felt entitled to be loved.

Today was different. As she stepped into the therapist's office, tears welled in her eyes, each drop a silent testament to the overwhelming weight of her emotions. The thought of admitting her own flaws and confronting her inner demons head-on filled her with a sense of dread, her heart heavy with the fear of what she might uncover. Yet, amidst the tears and turmoil, there flickered a glimmer of hope—a small voice urging her to take that leap of faith, to trust in the possibility of healing and growth. She felt an inexplicable sense of relief wash over her. With each passing session, she would peel back the layers of her pain, slowly unraveling the tangled web of her past and reclaiming the power that had long eluded her. She would become a woman capable of overcoming adversity and embracing her own worth, not a victim but a survivor.

Back at the school, Rohit couldn't resist indulging in a bit of playful teasing, his eyes twinkling mischievously as he glanced at Armaan.

"You know, bhiayya," he began, drawing out the moment with deliberate theatricality, "Even though I have been away, I have been watching over the family. I don't know how to tell you this, apparently, Abhira bhabhi didn't just disappear into thin air. Word on the street is that she's run off with a secret boyfriend—a dashing rogue who whisked her away under the cover of darkness! She's not even in India anymore, which is why you haven't found her so far."

Armaan's eyes widened, his heart doing somersaults at the mere suggestion. He felt a tumult of emotions churning within him, his mind racing with doubts and regrets, each one like a dagger piercing his heart. Jealousy clawed at his insides, an unwelcome guest that he couldn't seem to shake off. Could Abhira really have moved on? The mere thought sent a surge of panic through him, a fear of losing her forever. Regret washed over him in waves, each one heavier than the last. He should have realized his feelings sooner, he should have fought for her, he lamented silently, his thoughts consumed by the what-ifs and could-have-beens. Concern for Abhira tugged at his heartstrings, a relentless ache that refused to subside. Was she safe? Was she happy? The questions echoed in his mind, fueling his determination to find her and make things right. Amidst the chaos of his emotions, one thing remained clear: he couldn't bear the thought of Abhira slipping away from him, not when he had finally come to understand the depth of his love for her.

"It can't be!" he exclaimed, trying to mask his unease with feigned incredulity. "I mean, Abhira would never do such a thing, without even telling me. Would she?"

Rohit relished in Armaan's reaction. "Oh, you never know, bhaiyya," he teased, drawing out the suspense with theatrical flair. "They say love can make people do crazy things. And bhabhi is so special, who is to say she did not find a Dilwala who whisked away your Dulhaniya."

As Rohit's jests lingered in the air, Armaan found himself rendered speechless, his mind unable to form coherent thoughts amidst the whirlwind of emotions raging within him, his mind whirling with possibilities. But as he caught the glint of mischief in Rohit's eyes, he knew that his brother was up to his old tricks.

"Badmaash" he said, pulling Rohit's ear playfully, as his heart raced with unbridled excitement, "Where is Abhira?"
