Just so that you all know SM and channels aren't connected at all... They can promote anything, but channel acts the way it wants. Channel also has no say in story as people are assuming, the only thing channel can do is put pressure on PH to either shut down or come up with something new, stories aren't their area, it's writer and producer..
Now, social media works for likes, comments and engagement.... So they will do whatever they can to get that engagement from audience.. They earn that way and it's additional revenue stream too. Whereas channel does whatever brings them revenue - advertisers via TRPs... For example (referring to other shows, Mods feel free to edit) , Hotstar and SP Twitter/Instagram handles were really promoting saakk there even when it was confirmed to go off air because story was below average and it didn't yet ratings and kids online couldn't do much... Accordingly, colors/voot promoted Jasmine+Fateh alot but channel focused on Fateh+Tejo in Udaariyaan... They know what audience will like... Two women fighting for trophy man.
Anyways point of all that was to avoid linking SM and story... Social media is filled with Nibba Nibbi rooters, and that's how they will promote on social media. But when you can worry is probably when RS promotes leads, baaki interviews and media are all for likes, comments, shares
