Part 12

Flashback (Naitik's POV)

Naitik drove towards a caf where Akshara had called him. It was raining badly. Mohit had called him to inform her about Akshara's father's death which happened unexpectedly two weeks ago because of a heart attack. He was out of town and couldn't meet her. So the first thing he did after coming back in town was to contact her and Akshara asked him to meet her there instead of our house.

When he reached the place, he noticed how much her father's death affected her. Her eyes were red, possibly because of crying before arriving there. As far as Naitik knew, Akshara was very close to her father. The place where she was sitting was almost deserted.

"Akshara…" he called her softly.

"Hi…" she gave him a half hearted fake smile.

He smiled back at her and pulled the chair to sit beside her. She looked so sad and lost. So he reached for her hand and kept holding it until she was ready to talk.

"I miss him a lot," she finally said as she started crying. "Mujhe unki bohat yaad ati hai Naitik…"

Naitik didn't know what to say to make her feel better…because he thought nothing could actually make her feel better. So he tightened his grip on her hand, hoping she would understand that no matter what, he would always be there for him.

She looked at him in the eyes before pulling her hand away from him. She wiped her tears. "Mujhe tumse baat karni hai…." She said with a husky voice.

He nodded at her.

"Humare bare main…"

Naitik looked at her, confused while Akshara continued, "Mujhe lagta hai hume ye band karna chahiye…"

Naitik simply stared at her before saying, "Kya band karna chahiye?" though he knew what she meant.

"Hamara ye rishta…"

"Kyu?"

Akshara looked down, afraid to meet his eyes, "Mujhe akela rehna hai Naitik…I guess I simply need some time," she said blankly.

What she needed was his support, Naitik thought. "Akshara…it's ok…agar tum aisa chahti ho…it's fine…I just want you to know…I will be there…aur tumhare papa…," he stopped as Akshara nodded her head in a no.

"Tum nahi samjhe….mujhse ye nahi hoga…"

He got that. "You want to break up?"

Akshara swallowed before nodding again.

Naitik knew she needed him but he surrendered to her…"It's okay…"

Akshara looked at him, nodded and stood up. She walked out of the door.

Naitik wanted to add so many things beside that horrible 'it's okay…' that he will still be there for her as a friend, that he understood why she did what she did and she can always find him.

But he didn't get to say anything.

Since that day, they met many times in casual meetings, in friend's place but they never got to say anything except 'hi' and 'bye' until they totally lost touch.

He missed her.

He met Antara a year back. She was feisty, loud, a chatterbox, totally different from Akshara. He liked her as a friend until he learned she loved him. As days passed, he also came to love her, or that's what he thought….Then Antara started changing…

And maybe he missed her too.

Flashback (Akshara's POV)

She broke up with him. Maybe they could still work. But she missed her dad a lot and she was unsure how much she could give to the relationship to make it work. Moreover, they graduated. Could they take time out all the time? She was grateful to Naitik for not asking her too many questions. It would have only made things harder.

But she missed him.

Present

He was standing in the hospital hallway when he heard footsteps behind him. He turned around. Akshara.

She glanced around to see if anyone was nearby. Then she looked at him. "Mujhe tumse baat karni hai.." she said softly.

He hated that sentence. "Bolo."

"I hope hum awkward nahin ho jayenge." She didn't stop once to say that…she said that directly, staring at him. He liked that. She had changed. She had become bolder.

"Main tumhare samne kabhi awkward nahi hota. Shayad tum hoti. I am sure I am better professional than you are," he smirked at her.

Akshara looked at him in surprise.

Naitik continued, "And by the way…tumhara agla case mere saath hai. Don't be late," he grinned before turning around and leaving by the other side.

Maybe things will be awkward, she thought.
