My cooking classes came handy

Hello readers, this week began on a tense note as everyone in the family was worried after Dadaji faced a health problem. However, it came as a shock that no one in the family informed me that Dadaji was hospitalized, at night. I found out about this only the next morning!!

I felt bad when Naitik, who was out of town, told me that he had called but I was busy on another call and did not answer. I wish someone had informed me, I really felt like an outsider in my own home after this incident.

At first, Naitik was angry with me but being the loving husband that he is, he understood my feelings and surprised me by preparing tea for me, the next morning. Naitik and I then had breakfast together in the garden. It felt so nice to spend time together and share our feelings with each other over breakfast. It made me realize the importance of communication between couples, after all who better to confide in than your soul mate.

During these tough times, there was another incident that made me smile. The doctors advised Dadaji to have soup and I was the only one in the house who knew how to prepare it, since I had learnt the recipe in my cooking class. Although, Dadaji did not know that I was the one who made it, I still felt happy that he liked the soup. Naitik was proud of me for coming to the rescue of the family and this had me brimming with joy.

I had joined cooking classes to learn something new and pass time as I get bored at home with nothing much to do. But I am very proud that I could utilise my new found knowledge for a useful purpose!! I have to thank my friend Payal, since she was the one who gave me the idea of joining these classes. We have bonded in a very short time and she has made me realize how important it is to have a close female friend. My best friend and bhabhi Varsha is now busy with her daughter, Ananya, and we do not get enough time to spend together but I am glad I found a close pal in Payal.

Here is why I think it is important for every girl to have at least one best friend to bond with:

Having a close female friend is especially important for girls like me who do not have a sister. I feel lucky that I had Varsha during my growing up years to fight with, to share a laugh with and be my partner in crime. Of course, Shaurya dadu ended up falling in love with her and married her, so having Varsha in my life proved to be good for him too.

On a more serious note, there are some issues which only a girl friend can understand and relate to, about what you are going through and offer a suitable solution. It is important for you and your girly gang to spend time together, whether it is just shopping or if permitted by your family you can plan a get together. Such recreational activities are necessary to pep you up.

They are a great source of comfort and support during any crisis. If your facing any problems, you will always have a person to share it with. The solutions that your pals can come up with are amazing. After all, isn't it better if many heads think of a solution rather than just one getting stressed over the matter?

It is of important to spend time with your partner, but sometimes when that is not possible due to work pressure and other issues, bonding with friends is the next best solution. It is a de-stresser.

Friends, I am currently feeling a little nervous since I can't get through Naitik even after trying to contact him several times. He had informed me that he might have to leave for Delhi but there has been no update from his side after that. I am just praying that he is safe and everything is fine and I know that all of you are also hoping for the same. Meanwhile, continue to connect with me on akshara@starplus.in and feel free to share your stories, messages, feedback with me. As always, I enjoy reading them immensely.
