Akshara's Corner: Live a little

Hello readers, the past week was very exciting as the naming ceremony of Varsha's little angel was held. Being the bua of my darling niece, I had the honour of naming her. I felt the name Ananya, which means extraordinary, is perfect for her. Don't you all agree with me?

However, the thing that upset me was that only Naitik and Rashmi attended the ceremony but it would have been wonderful if everyone had been present on the occasion. I was hoping Dadaji, Gayatri Ma and Bhabhi Maa to attend the function but I was disappointed.

As Naitik noticed my sadness, he convinced me to stay back and spend some time with Ananya, which was really sweet of him. This gesture left me touched. I hope every husband understands that a woman's relationship with her parental family does not end after marriage. I felt really good after spending some quality time with my family.

Moreover I also learnt that marriage also does not mean the end of learning -thanks to my friend Payal. I was inspired by her cooking skills after which she suggested that I join cooking classes. I loved the idea of learning new dishes other than the regular Indian fare I make at home. So I decided to go for it.

Unfortunately, I had to turn down a chance to accompany Naitik on a trip he planned, because of my classes.

However, I feel it is worth the sacrifice, as homemakers should keep updating their skills and spend free time fruitfully. We housewives should spend time on ourselves for our own inner self.

Here are some suggestions on how to live for yourself -

It is never too old to learn a new skill, so pick any of your favourite creative activity. It could be singing, dancing or playing a musical instrument. This will be useful during family functions where you can show off your talent and make your family feel proud.

Who does not enjoy good food? You can enroll in cooking classes like me and whip up some gastronomic delights for friends and family. Also keep a watch for cooking competitions in your neighbourhood that you can participate in. They will add fun and novelty in the regular regimen.

Photography is another creative option that will come handy during special occasions. It would be such fun capturing loves ones in a frame.

Do you enjoy watching daily soaps? Then why not try your hand at writing? Start a blog and predict the next twist and turns in your favourite show. This will boost your creativity and you can get your friends to join in this activity too. You and your group can also enroll in creative writing classes.

Designing is another good option. Try your hand at designing clothes. Wouldn't it feel awesome to see and friends and family sporting outfits designed by you?

If you like spending time with kids you can consider teaching from home. This way you can also earn some money and support your family financially. Besides that you will also keep yourself updated.

Another option is starting a crche.
