I too thought the same initially that it is like karvachauth. Gujjus have this "Kevda Teej" day before Ganesh Chaturthi. So far I guessed this was the same. But this is just for a day and done for the same reason as karvachauth. Ye three days long teej sounds different than what I thought too.

Ye dadi jitna wise person koi YRKKH ki parent generation me kyon nahi hai. Gayatri he na possessiveness waala angle dikhane ke liye fir ye Rajshri ko samajhdaar kyon nahi dikhate (at least saas vaale part mein).
