The way the TRP system works is very different. We can’t really compare Anupama with YHC because Anupama’s audience is totally different. I see lot of people hating on Anupama all over social media but clearly something is attracting the older audience towards that show. As far as IPL goes it was declared by the thesis people that IPL had no negative effect on any of the shows really. Barely decreased by 0.1 but most shows in fact increased even during IPL including ours. As far as the rest of the shows is concerned they are getting promos and if not they are fairly new. Hence, the increase in their TRPs. I think our show is the only one that hasn’t got a promo for almost 4-5 months. Star Plus has seen lots of shows like Kulfi where TRPs of new shows started off stellar and then decreased heavily a couple months later. Our show has had a slow but steady upward trend since the very beginning. That is good. It is creating a loyal fan base at the moment and I think it has slowly managed to create one.
Yep, for some reason, people on social media judge Anupama way too harshly without having watched the episodes. Personally, I don't watch the show but from the few epis I have caught, I can see why the TRP audience loves it. I mean, yeah, there are regressive characters, but those kind of characters do exist in society. The makers manage to keep them gray and use them to build up the drama without going overboard. And the focus is very much on the leads. Plus, the emotions portrayed are pretty realistic and you feel for the characters even if you don't relate to them. And then, amidst all the heavy drama, they add in lighter family moments - I think that's pretty much the formula for TRP.
Same with Ghum and Imlie. They have their dramatic moments, but there are lighter scenes and the focus is consistently on the leads. Again, the emotional portrayal is pretty realistic. If a shows wants to survive, drama is needed. Only romance wouldn't work. We all agree on that.
But what the YHC makers are currently showing is just bad drama - these OTT all powerful villains, dumb leads, no focus on their emotions, no buildup of conflict, the writing has been pretty much shitty. The ensemble is not utilized properly. No fun moments. Just the continuous onslaught of highly negative drama. I can't even bring myself to feel sorry for RuSha anymore. They are too stupid, don't follow any logic, no retrospection, and their reactions don't make sense at all. I mean they say Mahima is khatarnaak but M's actions aren't really that intelligent. It's just that the leads dumbness make her smart by comparison. Then, with all the Saransh ke liye that they spout, no one even talks to the kid or looks after the kid anymore. They give these dialogues but they fall flat because their actions don't match their words. Anyway, let me not continue on that, it's going to be a long one then.
Agreed about YHC's slow audience build up. But then the writing post RuSha's marriage was pretty good, all the way up to the MU. So makes sense why people slowly continued to get hooked. After that though, first with KJ's entry and now with Mahima, the writing has just continued to deteriorate. So, while we had loyal audience increasing before, I wonder how long it will continue given the makers themselves decided to commit harakiri.
