Faisale (Decisions)
As soon as she closed the window, Naina collapsed on the bed and started to cry quietly. His eyes reflected immense love for her, she was sure he was trying to convey the same. " Kaise apne dil ke jazbaat tumse chupaoun Sameer. Bahut mushkil hai".
Na Jane kis tarah ka ishq kar rahe hai hum
Jiske ho na sake Usi ke ho rahe hai hum
Memories of the past week disturbed her. Just a few days ago she was struggling and fighting for her rights with unknown people.
Flashback
"Naina mai do din ke liye baba ke ashram jaa rahi houn, ghar ka khayal rakhna. Yeh dawai hai aur is mein likha hai kaunsi dawai kab deni hai. Time pe dawai dena Sharad ko. Aur jab bhi uske saamne jao to koi halke rang ke kapde hi pehno. Aur kuch chahiye to Radhika ko bol dena woh sab kar degi. and she gave her another set of instructions on how to behave with Sharad and left.
This house never gave her a warm feeling. She felt like a stranger in this house. After taking the prescription and the medicine box, she went to her room.
"Memsaheb , lunch ready hai aur Sharad Sahab ki dawai ka time huva hai. Aap dengi unhe ? Maine plate ready rakha hai " Radhika asked her.
"Tumhare Sharad Sahab neeche nahi aate ? Naina questioned back.
"Ji, woh kabhi kabhi " Radhika replied hesistantly.
"Thik hai mai de doungi , plate nikal ke rakh" Naina said.
She felt there was something more to the story, that her mother-in-law was saying. She was curious to know what secrets remained hidden. The reasons why her mother in law insisted on a marriage arranged in just one day. She wore white churidar as per her mother in law's instruction, and took the medicines along with the food to Sharad's room. She was scared but had none to support, so now she had to face it all alone
When she entered the room she saw, it was dark, cold and different. It had no life at all. She wanted to escape from it as soon as possible. Hearing the footsteps in the room
"Kaun hai Wahan ??? " a loud voice erupted from a corner. Her resolve to find out the secrets went weak and she was about to turn and run. "Nahi Naina, tujhe pata karna hai yahan kya chal raha hai .Tu darr nahi sakti" mustering courage she entered.
"Khana aur dawai layi houn " is what she could say.
After putting the food plate on the table, she gave the tablets. Sharad didn't look at her and just took the tablets and the food plate.
"Khadi kyun ho ? Jao yahan se ! " he shouted. Hearing this she ran as fast as possible from there.
The same pattern repeated at night. After giving dinner and tablets, she just escaped quietly. The weight of those secrets robbed her of her appetite and made her feel tired again. The silence of the house was too much to bear. Her mood ricocheted between low and lower.
Zara sa zindagi aarman bahut hai
Humdard nahi koi, insaan bahut hai
Dil ka dard sunaye toh sunaye kise
Jo dil ke kareeb hai woh anjaan bahut hai
She changed into her nightdress and turned on the television. After an hour of flicking the channels, her mind wandered to what she had seen. There was something about Sharad that made her uncomfortable. " Aise din bhar kamre mein kyun rehta hai yeh? Aur woh bhi andere mein? Yeh dawai kis bimari ke liye hai ?". She decided to meet the doctor who had prescribed these medicines to find out what was going on. She drifted to sleep thinking about the next steps. A shrill voice of Sharad awoke her from her deep slumber.
"Accha tumhare yaar ka intezaar ho raha hai ? Aaya hai na woh yahan par , tumhe horn deke ishaare kar raha hai na ? Mai sab janta houn . Aur yeh tum aise kya dekh rahi ho. ? Mai accha nahi houn ? Mai bura houn? Ladki ki izzat nahi karta ? he tried to come near her, she pushed him and ran to her room and locked it. He kept banging the door. The encounter had frightened her. Startled, she sat in extreme fear. After a while, the noise subsided, she could hear his footsteps back to his room. She pulled her knees to her chest and wrapped her arms around them, hiding her face from the light. The one person she needed was Sameer, she wished, to be in his arms, the only place she felt secure.
Jo Nahi aata, uska Itna Intezaar kyu?
Kisi ke liye apna ye haal Kyun
Waise toh Is duniya mein Bahut si Cheez Pyaaari hai
Par Jo nahi milta Usi se Itna pyaar kyun hai?
The sun streamed through the windows, yet her mind clouded with grey. She never had a house which she could call her own. Twenty years she had stayed with Chachaji, though they treated like their daughter she could never say with all rights as her house. Now, this house in which she got married never felt like a home for her
Kitna Khouff hota hai sham ke andheroun mein
Poonch un parindoun se jinke ghar nahi hote
Life had thrown her a new challenge. She had two choices keep running, hiding and blaming her family for all the problems or stand for herself. She decided to stand up for what she believed was right.
She quickly got ready to visit the doctor. The hospital was nearby, after taking the appointment she waited for her turn. The receptionist called her. After a brief introduction about herself and her marriage with the patient, he was treating she handed the prescription to the doctor.
"Please kya aap bata saktein hai kis liye hai yeh dawai? Kya problem hai ? " she enquired.
The doctor, looked at her she seemed to be an intelligent and educated girl. He didn't understand why she had got married to Sharad. After a brief pause, the doctor asked her, " Have you heard about, schizophrenia? " When Naina shook her head, the doctor continued, "It's a serious mental illness in which a person confuses the real world and the world of the imagination. He often behaves in strange and unexpected ways. The exact causes of schizophrenia are unknown, sometimes the physical, environmental factors, can make a person develop this condition.
Did you know he was about to be married to a Punjabi girl? She was beautiful and loved him, but later she realized he didn't respect women, was very suspicious and never wanted her to go alone or do a job. On her marriage day, she decided not to marry him. When Sharad started pressurizing her to marry him, she humiliated him in front of everyone and left. That had a tremendous impact, on him, and I think he had these initial symptoms of depression. When they became more evident, he was referred by the company here. After a few observations, I prescribed him these medicines and asked him to visit regularly. His mother visited us the next day and blasted " Kya samajte hai aap? , mera beta pagal hai . Kuch bhi dawai de rahein hai . Us ladki ne kiya hoga kuch jadoo toona " she rejected our observations. I tried to explain to her that it can be cured and with regular consultations, he can get better but she didn't listen. "
Naina then explained to him the current situation and the last night's incident. The doctor explained to her that he imagined Naina as his ex-girlfriend. He is not aware of what is going on. If not treated immediately then it might be too late. Based on what you are saying, I don't think he is even taking these tablets. She thanked the doctor for all the information.
It was too much for her to absorb all the information. She sat in a park nearby for a while to decide what she should do next. After thinking for a while, she visited the court and found out a lawyer who could handle her case. After listening to her story, the lawyer stated she could quickly get a divorce. She suggested if it's mutual, it will be helpful and she shall try to get it in 6 weeks. She collected all the information and completed the initial legal formalities. The lawyer explained to her that it wouldn't be easy to get mutual consent from the other party and hence gave some tips that can help her. She thanked the lawyer for all the help and left from there.
She took a walk on the necklace road, remembering her first visit, it was full of promises and hopes. Today she was standing and looking at the future with no hopes.
"Ajeeb tarah se Guzar rahi hai zindagi
Socha Kuch, Kiya Kuch ,Huva kuch Aur mila kuch
Life is so unpredictable "she said to herself and smiled looking at the lake.
The next day Naina placed the divorce petition notice in front of her mother in law.
"Mujhe Divorce chahiye " she said very calmly.
"Shaadi ko 2 din nahi huve aur tujhe divorce chahiye ? Kya bol rahi hai tu " her mother in law flared.
"Shaadi ?? Maaf ki jiye woh ek kaagaz pe sign karne se koi shaadi nahi hoti. Shaadi woh pavitra rishta hai jahan do log ek dusre par vishwas karke zindagi bhar saath chalne ka faisal kartein hai . Aapne dhoka diya hai, sharad ki bimari nahi batayi . Ek din mein shaadi ki sharat rakhi taki sabko pata na chale. Aapke bete ko gaade rang ke kapde dekhne se woh ladki jo chodke gayi hai uski yaad aati hai isliye safed ya halke rang ke kapde pehno bol na. Aapke bete ko pata hai kya uski shaadi ho chuki hai ? Ya aapko sirf apke bete ke liye ek nurse chahiye thi?
Sharad's mom stood shocked. How did she get all this information in just two days?
"Haan tumhare tauji ko bataya tha humne, 1 lakh rupaye bhi diye the unhe. Tumhare bhai ko naukari bhi dilvai hai. Koi dhoka nahi diya " she confessed.
"Ek lakh rupaya ?? " that was the reason why her Tayiji was so adamant on getting her married in a day. She could not believe her own family members had stomped so low.
"Toh aapne sauda kiya tha rishta nahi ? Socha hoga ek bechari bin maa ki beti hai , baap ko bhi iski koi fikar nahi toh aaram se sab bardash kar legi . Hai na ?? Par aap yeh nahi janti ki mujhe mere chachaji ne paala hai , unhone kahan tha zulm sehna aur chup rehna bhi galat hai. Aur maine aaj tak koi bhi galat kaam ka saath nahi diya. "
"Tumhe kya lagta hai , itni aasani se hoga yeh sab , jaa jo karna hai kar le mai nahi sign karti" her mother in law said with all the rigor.
"Aasani se toh nahi doge itna toh mai bhi janti houn. Accha ab mai police mein case kar doungi dhoka aur harrasment ka . Phir aap jail mein rehna. Saza ka toh pata nahi. Aur agar aap akalmand hai toh apne bete ko is halat mein chodke toh jail nahi jana chahengi . Soch li jiye. Mai Police station mein keh kar aayi houn mujhe agar kuch huva toh aap par ilzam hoga. "
Naina knew her mother-in-law didn't know much of the law and any middle-class lady is scared of the police.
After thinking for a while she asked " Kya chahiye tumhe !" Is paper par sign aur kal aap mere saath lawyer ke pass chalengi. Aapke bete ki jo halat hai woh to nahi aa sakta . Bas sign karva le jiye baki ka wakil samjha degi aapko. Aur ek kaam kariyega mere ghar phone lagake kahiye ki Naina videsh jaa rahi hai ek saal ke liye. She knew once Chachaji returned he would try to contact her, she didn't want to give him any more pain.
Her mother-in-law agreed, her divorce was filed with mutual consent in the court. "Aur aap baba ke kehne par mujhe vidva ke roop mein rehne ko kaha na? Mere liye toh accha tha par aapka beta yeh sab karne se thik nahi hoga. Kitna andhavishwas hai aapke pass . Doctor ke pass lekar jayiye aur treatment karvayi" she advised and left.
Flashback ends.
" Par ab mai Sameer ki zindagi mein wapis nahi jaa sakti " . Her heart requested her "Sharad nahi hai ab Sameer wapas aa gaya hai , shayad yeh ishara hai, kismat tum dono ko ek aur mouka dena chahati hai ". She didn't dare to have another heartbreak.
"Jab chotein the tab bade honi ki badi jaldi thi
Par ab pata chala ki adhure ehsaas, aur tooty khwaaboun se
adhurey homework aur tooty khilone acche the"
" she closed the chapter in her dairy.
Sameer could not sleep. A part of him was happy that she was longer staying with forced relationships and, a part of him worried that she was alone.
" Pata nahi kya kya jhela hoga usne ? Kitna pareshan huvi hogi ? Mai kaise uski help karun? Kaise usko yakeen dilao ki mai usse aaj bhi balki pehle se zyada pyar karta houn. Meri duniya hai woh. Kuch kehna hi nahi de rahi hai kya karun? " She was not ready to talk or listen to him. He had to wait and be patient with her. He knew she has gone through a lot. It was not an easy path to bring back his old Naina, but his heart was determined.
"Tanha rehna qubool hai mujhe
Par kisi ka sath manzoor nahi hai
Ishq hai mera koi usool nahi hai
Jo tu nahi toh koi aur qubool nahi hai.
The next day the usual daily routine of a software engineer started with multiple meetings on requirements clarifications, status, tasks assignment, etc. Sameer stole some glances at Naina whenever he got an opportunity. Naina was busy with customer calls, but she observed him and even caught him sometimes looking at her. The project had tight deadlines, and a lot of pending work kept everyone busy. Sameer had to set up the database and also analyze the legacy applications for data storage. He tried to talk to Naina but, she never responded. She came early and left early so that Sameer doesn't have to drop her. A week had passed but there was no progress. She never gave an opportunity to talk to her." Sameer Beta aisi hi chala toh tu zindagi bhar intezaar hi karta rahega" his heart responded.
The next day when he tried to talk to her" Samer kaam bahut hai, kal dekhtein hai"
" Kal kho diya aaj ke liye
Aaj kho diya kal ke liye
Kabhi jee na sake hum aaj, aaj ke liye
Beet rahi hai zindagi, kal aaj aur kal ke liye..." he said looking at her.
"Toh Aaj Naina lunch ke liye chale ? " he asked her thinking he could talk to her.
"Maine lunch kar liya wahi cabin mein Karthik ke saath" she answered without even looking at him.
"Karthik manager hai toh kya har waqt uske saath hi rehna hai " he said to himself agitatedly.
She saw him returning to his desk. It was already 4.00, but Sameer didn't have his lunch yet.
"Abhi tak lunch nahi kiya, bahut ziddi hai aur bilkul bache jaisa hai . Kya karun mai iska". She asked Karthik if she can order some sandwiches for all. He readily agreed as the team was putting in extra effort and staying late. "Jo late rukhenge unke liye Pizza order kar lena" he smiled and said. They all had sandwiches together with a cup of tea. Finally, her heart was content that he had eaten something.
Since morning Divya, Ankita and Sonal visited Sameer's desk more often. It was a new database setup and they required his help in resolving some issues. Naina was quietly observing it.
" Yeh ladkiyan Sameer se baat karni aati hai,ya kaam karne" she said with a pang of jealousy.
She scolded Divya and Sonal for some mistakes, and in the meeting, she just argued with Sameer even though she knew he had a valid point. After the meeting, Sameer quickly went behind her and whispered
Mujhe uski yeh masoom aada bahut bhati hai
Naaraz mujhse hoti hai aur Gussa sabko dekhati hai" and walked away winking at her.
Naina stood shocked looking at him with wide-open eyes.
" Naina , chal aise kyun khadi hai beech mein " she controlled her racing heartbeats and walked to the desk.
" Aaj bhi iski shayari dil ki dhadkan bada deti hai. Sambhal Naina Sambhal" she said to herself.
"Sameer, tum itne handsome ho tumhari toh bahut saari girl friends rahi hongi na?" Divya asked him while he was resolving her issues.
" Nahi, maine sirf ek se pyar kiya hai aur aakhri dam tak bas wahi rahegi meri sab kuch " he smiled and told her.
" So sweetttt. " Divya replied hearing this.
Sameer's desk was on the way to the printer. Naina who was passing by to pick her printouts heard it.
" Tumhare maa ki tabiyat thik hai? Sameer asked Sonal who was sitting next to him.
" Haan kafi better hai, kal tumne jaldi jane ko kaha aur mera issue resolve kiye. Thanks "
"No problem, aisa kabhi zaroorat pade toh bol dena" he smiled and replied.
" You are such a darling .. thanks" she replied.
Naina heard those words again while collecting her printouts.
Sameer who was observing Naina " Aaj kuch zyada hi printouts le nahi rahi hai??" he said to himself.
She had decided to move away from him, but they say moving away from your true love isn't that easy. "Cute, darling , pata nahi kya kya bol rahi hai yeh. Hai to yeh malai ka kotora aur makkiyan to bhin bhinagi na uske aas pass. "
"Divya,Ankita, Sonal subah se tumhare desk pe ghum rahi hai. Kaam bhi kar rahe ho ya bas ladkiyoun ke sath timepass. Jo kahan tha kiye to hoge nahi , in titliyoun se fursat milegi to karoge na " she scolded him. He looked at her with all the love
"Zara Zara si baat par takrar karne lage ho
Lagta hai mujhse beintaha pyar karne lage ho "
" Tumhe Jalan ho rahi hai? " he asked her in a teasing tone.
"Sameer Maheswari aap apne hadd mein rahiye," she retorted.
"Ishq karana hai to kisise to behad ki jiye
hade aur sar-hadein to zameen ki hoti hai diloun ki nahi. " he replied leaving her speechless.
" Haan bas Shayari karne se toote dil jhod jatein hai na?? Jane do tumse kuch kehna hi nahi hai" she walked away from his desk.
Sameer ran behind her "Accha sorry sorry !! Ab ek request hai please ek baar meri baat to suno , phir uske baad tang nahi karuga. Pleaseeeee " he pleaded.
"Thik hai kal subah 6 baje miltein hai necklace road pe. Uth paoge ??" she knew he wouldn't give up and she had to end it in her own way.
"Haan kal milta houn 6.00 baje , wahi jahan pehle mile the " with a hope that he may heal her heart, he said with a smile.
Precap:
As she turned, he held her wrist and looked at her with teary eyes and said
Teri maasomiyat ki woh shararat sirf maine dekhi hai
Tere hothoun ki Itlathi woh hasi sirf maine dekhi hai
Teri choti choti khawaishoun ki woh duniya sirf maine dekhi hai
Tandi hawaoun ke sang woh udti zulfein sirf maine dekhi hai
Raastein tere sabhi, sabse se alag, unki rah sirf maine dekhi hai
Badaloun ke peeche ek ghar, sabse se alag wahan sham sabse alag sirf maine dekhi hai
