Part-1

Sameer folded the morning's newspaper neatly and put it aside. The situation of riots had kept the whole country on toes. He leaned back in the chair and looked out of the window abstractedly.

The sun of Sunday morning was shining brightly outside.He remembered how the morning would already have been a fun-frolic affair with Munna,Pandit and Nanu.Rohan and he had the first floor all to themselves.The window in the room provided a nice view of the cloudless sky.The sounds of Delhi city coming awake had already begun;there was no end to the rush of traffic and activity in the capital city.It was nearly seven o' clock.He lazily flipped a poetry book, looking for some beautiful lines and musings.

Meanwhile in downstairs

"Vishakha! Thank you!'' Somani voiced and Dadi had a tone of approval too as they all sipped the tea.Keshav was missing and hence Visakha had to prepare the morning tea.

"Arey Thank You kya? Yeh bhi to mera ek farz hai.''Visakha said with all smiles.

"Haan Visakha..farz nibhana bahut zaroori hai humare zindagi mein.Ab Sameer ko dekho apni farz nibha nahin pata isliye humesha chid chid rehta hai,indisciplined hai.Lagta hai tumhare Papa ne apni farz thik se nahin nibhaya.''Dadi spoke with a smirk and Visakha was unsettled listening to taunts about her late father.But as usual she could not raise a voice against her mother-in-law.

"Keshav kahan hai? Usse breakfast banana bhi hai. Rohan ka breakfast ka time ho gaya hai.''Visakha spoke worriedly.

"Arey Visakha! Tum kyun pareshan ho rahe ho? Keshav sabzi lene mandi gaya hai shayad.Aa jayega kuch hi der mein''. Dadi comforted Visakha while Somani looked not-so-happy.

"Visakha!Mein keh raha hoon..Sameer ke iss ghar mein aneke baad sab indisciplined hog aye hein.Koi rules aur regulations follow nahin kar raha hai.''Somani spoke with disgust and Visakha stayed mum.

"Main thoda garden se aati hun.Dekh bhi lungi Keshav aya hai ki nahin'' Dadi spoke and went away.

Few Minutes Later

"BOBBY...'' Dadi's voice had enough cacophony to jerk Bobby Somani,Visakha,Rohan and Sameer from their seats.

"Kahin budhi ko heart attack to nahin aa gaya? ''Sameer self talked and rushed downstairs.Rohan took a bit of time to decide if he should study according to the time-table or rush behind Sameer.

"Kya hua Mummy?KESHAV...'' Somani stood rooted and shocked as everyone saw the lifeless body of Keshav lying in a pool of blood..

The whole of Somani's household stood shocked at the 'Murder in Somani House.

An hour later

A police jeep ran in full steam inside the Somani compound. A senior investigating officer stepped down followed by two constables.

"Somani Babu! Namoskar! ''The inspecter greeted and Sameer smiled at the state of law and order.How the police was sub ordinate to government, bureaucracy and the influential.

"Arey Ashutosh Babu! Aap yeh case sambhal rahein hein.Chaliye achi shuruwat huwa.Aaiye mein apko murder scene tak le jaa raha hun.''Somani said all excited while the inspector seemed not so pleased.

"Maaf kijiyega Somani Babu.Lekin CID Inspector Ashutosh Mitra eek baar duty pe aa jaye to wo kiska Mitra nahin Dushman ban jaata hai.Bhusan ,Sukumar jake body ki tasvir lo aur markings karo.Aur aap log koi yahan se hiliyega bhi nahin. ''Ashu Babu cleared his agenda and Somanis looked not so impressed.

"To jab murder hua aap sab log kya kar rahe the? ''He enquired and gestured Visakha to first come for interrogation.

"Mein so rahi thi.Aaj subah hi pata chala mujhe murder ke bare mein.'' Visakha answered and the inspector felt something was amiss in her tone.

"Aap raat ko kab jage the?'' He asked .

"Nahin mein bilkul bhi nahin jagi thi''Visakha told with firmness in her tone and next Dadi was called.

"To bataiye! Mrs.Somani.Aap kal kitne baje sone gaye the?'' Ashu asked and he knew how old people cook stories.

"Mein dinner ke baad hi so gayi thi.I believe in early to bed and early to rise.'' Dadi delivered with a swag attitude pushing her locks behind the ear.

"Apka BP thik hai? Heart problem ya mental problem to nahin hai?'' He enquired much to Sameer's giggles.

"Mein bilkul fit hun '' She answered and seemed very displeased with the attitude of Inspector.

"Bahut badhia.To yaad karke bataiye ki Keshav ko apne akhri baar kab mile the?'' Ashu Babu asked twirling his stick.

"Dinner ke waqt.''Dadi answered confidently.

"Thik hai.Arey tum koun ho?Pehle to yahan kabhi nahin dekha.. ''Ashu Babu asked surprised seeing a new member.

"Sir! Mein Sameer.Sameer Maheshwari.'' Sameer answered as he sat for interrogation.

"To tum batao yahan kya kar rahe ho?'' Ashu Babu asked matter-of-factly.

"Mein yahan interrogation ke liye baitha hun.''Sameer replied.

"Arey nahin baba..Mera matlab tum koun ho aur yahan kaise?'' He asked and Sameer had a flick of temper in his eyes.

"Mein Mummy ka pehla beta hun aur yahan ab reh raha hun kyunki mere Nanaji gujar gaye hein.''Sameer spoke with heavy heart and Ashu Babu felt a bit emotional.

"Koi baat nahin beta...Delhi bahut achi sehar hai.Haan yahan logon ka dil bada nahin hota kabhi kabhi lekin yeh shehar bahut bada hai.Aao kabhi thane pe tumhe Delhi ghuma lenge.Tumhe dekh ke mujhe mera bte ki yaad aa gaya. ''Ashu babu consoled Sameer and Dadi was really not very happy with the turn of events.

"Inspector! Aap yahan investigation ke liye aye hein rishta nibhane nahin.'' Dadi taunted and Ashu Babu smirked at the comment.

"Shant ho jaiye Mrs.Somani.Mein pehle bhi puch chukka hun aap ka BP problem hai ya nahin.Lagta hai aap ne mujhe jhooth bola hai.Aap ke pass thodi der baad lautunga.To Sameer! Batao tumhare haath mein chot kaise aayi?'' Ashu Babu asked and for the first time all noticed the deep cut on Sameer's palm.

"Wo..chaku se kat gaya.'' Sameer replied fumbling.

"Hmm..Chaku se.Dekh ke katna chahiye.'' Ashu babu advised.

"Dekha Inspector! Kabhi kisi chiz mein bhi iss ladke ka concentration nahin hai.Har jagah sirf apni man mani karta rehta hai.Bilkul bigad diya hai iske Nanaji ne ise. '' Somani uttered and that made Sameer's blood boil by degrees.

"Arey Somani Babu! Apka concentration tej hai to yeh bataiye ki aapka ghar mein koi chiz missing hai kya?''Ashu Babu asked and Somani chose to keep mum.

"To Sameer..tum kya kat rahe the?Kab kat rahe the?'' The questions were fired.

"Kal raat ko mujhe bhook lagi to main kitchen mein aaya tha.Aur tabhi pyaaz kat te waqt haath kat gaya.'' Sameer answered while Dadi and Somani looked at him in disbelief.

"Yeh jhooth bol raha hai Inspector! Isse khana banana aata hi nahin.Yeh zaroor Keshav ke murder ke bare mein janta hai.Ache se khabar lijiye iski.'' Somani nearly ordered.

"Khabar to main ab aapka lunga. Ek investigating officer ko baar baar rokne ke jurm mein I can arrest you''. Ashu Babu threatened and got back to his work.

"Tum kyun khana bana rahe the? Keshav ko kyun nahin jagaya? ''Ashu Babu asked.

"Kyunki ..wo subah mera uske saath jhagda..aur maar pit ho gaya tha.'' Sameer answered and his mind travelled back to the previous morning where the horrendous scene had met his eyes.The sweater,one of his priceless possessions, was being used as a mop.

"Par kyun?Usne kuch kaha tha tumhe? ''Ashu babu asked intrigued.

"Usne mere Nai..sweater ko pocha bana diya tha.Inn logon ko nahin pata ki kitna kimti hai wo sweater mere liye.'' Sameer spoke with a raged temper.

"Samajh gaya beta.Lagta hai koi dil ke karib aur nainon mein basne wali ne diya hai.Pata hai beta.Mere college ke time pe bhi mujhe ek ladki,meri khass wali dost ne ek fountain pen gift kiya tha.Bada sambhal ke rakha tha use lekin ek din mere Mamaji ke bte ne uska nib tod diya..Aur isliye maine uska katl kar diya.'' Ashu Babu said in nostalgic rememberance.

"KYAA?'' All shouted in unison not believeing that a juvenile murderer could be CID Inspector.

"Arey matlab dimag mein katl kar diya.'' Ashu Babu spoke clearing the startling confusion.

"To isliye tum Keshav ka katl kar diye?'' Ashu Babu asked cocking his eyebrow and Sameer felt a bit unsettled.

"NAHIN..Maine uska katl nahin kiya.Agar karta to mere Nanaji ke diye huye sanskaaron pe sawal aate.Aur unke jaise devta ke naam pe koi kalank aane nahin de sakta.'' Sameer clarified and Somani smirked.

"To jab exams paper kic hori kit hi tab kahan the tumhare sanskaar?'' Dadi asked crossing her arms.

"Aap ne dekha tha mujhe paper churate huye?Nahin dekha na.To aap ka koi haq bhi nahin hai mere Nanu ki sanskaar aur parvarish pe sawal uthane ke liye.'' Sameer spoke with rage.

"Sameer! Mummy se aise baat karne ki himmat tumhari kaise huyi? Besharmi ki bhi had hoti hai.'' Somany shouted.

"CHUP KARO SAB!Warna abhi ke abhi sabko hawalat ka pankha khilaunga. ''Ashu babu threatened and all restored back to their places.

"Aur aap..Ek bache ko kaam karwate hein,use pareshan kar rahein hein..Keshav ke maut ke silsila ko chod kar ab aap ko mein 'Child Labour' ke Act ke anusar aap ko arrest kar sakta hun.'' Ashu Babu warned Dadi and Somani.

"SIR! Yahan pe ek vase bhi girke tut gaya hai.''Sukumar informed and Ashu Babu rushed to the sight followed by Dadi and others.

"Oh My God! Meri Cannes se li gayi French Vase 200 Euros ki.''Dadi sulked and nearly cried.

"Acha 200 Euros ki? Tab to iska bill aapke pass hoga.Dikhaiye kahan se li hai?Kab li hai?'' Ashu Bbau cross questioned and Dadi knew her 'imported talks'' crumbled.

"Wo..Hum to isse Cannaught Place se liye the. ''Dadi replied fumbling and Ashu Babu knew the 'imported'' brags of the nauve-richs.

"To kisne iss vase ki girne ki awaaz suni thi?'' Ashu Babu asked and Sameer nodded in 'YES'.

"Kya?Par Sameer tum to so rahe the.Tum sach mein kitchen mein aaye the?'' Visakha asked shocked that Sameer was awake and was really in kitchen.

"Aapko kaise pata ki mein so raha tha ya jag raha tha?'' Sameer asked crossing his arms.

"Kyunki mein khud tumko kambal odhke aayi thi..aur..''Visakha realised her slip of tongue while Dadi,Somani and Sameer stood surprised.

"Aap humare room mein aye the?Mere pass?'' Sameer asked surprised and wonderfully shocked for few minutes.

"Ek minute ..ek minute..Visakha Ji! Aap to bol rahe the aap son eke baad phir se nahin jagi thi..To phir Sameer ke kamre mein kaise gayi thi?Kya aapka bhi mental problem hai ya phir aap kuch chupa rahi hai? ''Ashu Babu enquired and Visakha knew she could now not escape.

"Mein sab son eke baad Sameer ke pass gayi thi.Phir wapas aa gayi thi.Aur laut te waqt...Mummy ji ko Keshav se jhagadte huye dekha tha.Mujhe pata tha ki Sameer ke liye achi dinner bani thi isliye Mummy khush nahin thi aur.. ''Visakha trailed only to meet the wide eyes of Dadi.

"Aur iss wajah se aap Mrs.Somani Keshav ka katl kar diya...Right?'' Ashu Babu fired Dadi with an intense stare.

"Naukron ko gali dena Malikon ka ek shaan hai..Keshav to mera apna tha.Agar hum bahar walon ko apna sakte hein to andar ke logon ka itni mamuli si chiz ke liye katl kyun Karen? Mein Keshav ko samjha rahi thi Rohan Baba ke time table ke bare mein.Bas.Phir mein so gayi thi.'' Dadi clarified her point.

"Aur phir aapne mujhe yeh bola ki aap Keshav se dinner ke waqt hi mile the.Iss umar mein jhooth pe jhooth bolte huye aapko thodi si sharam nahin aa rahi hai? Wo bhi investigating officer se? " Ashu Babu asked miffed with the lies and contradictions of statements.

"Ab tum Rohan batao ki tum dinner ke baad kya kar rahe the? ''Ashu babu asked knowing very well how Rohan was a "Mr.Timetable.''

"Mein Dinner ke baad Vitamin D ke pills khaye aur phir Maths solve kiya,grammar ke prepositions revise kiye aur phir so gaya. Aur us bich..Sameer Bhaiya..'' Rohan trailed only to meet Sameer's smouldering gaze.

"Kya Sameer Bhaiya?'' Ashu Babu enquired.

"Wo..Bahar Pole star ko dekh ke bol rahe the---I love you Naina!' ''Rohan spoke and suddenly every head turned towards Sameer.

"Dekha Bobby! Iss ladke ka affair bhi chal raha hai.Padhai se dhyan hatakar yeh sab mein dhyan lag raha hai.Rohan ko dekho...'' Dadi trailed as Ashu Babu gestured her to stay mum.

"Excuse me Mrs.Somani.Sach kahun to aapke iss pure khandan mujhe jhoota lag raha hai.Kisika koi taal mel nahin koi baat ke saath.Bhala iss zamane mein ladki ki photo ke jagah taron se koun baat karega? Either apka pura parivar ka mental problem hai ya phir sab jhoothe hein.'' Ashu Babu stated his points and observations reading through recorded statements.

"Aap aise nahin bol sakte Ashutosh babu! ''Somani protested.

"Kyun nahin bol sakta? Mein aapka dost zaroor hun lekin ab mein ek investigating officer hoon.Aur aapki patni,Maa,khud app ,apka beta jhooth pe jhooth bole jaa rahein hein.Keshav ka case lagta hai ab ulajh gaya hai lekin kaafi interesting bhi ban gaya hai. ''Ashu Babu replied as he checked Keshav's body.

"Bhusan! Murder weapon?Any further evidence?'' Ashu Babu asked putting on his gloves.

"Sir! Lagta hai Keshav ko bahut pita hai kisine marne se pehle.Aur murder weapon missing hai.Ek interesting baat hai Sir.Murder ki weapon kitchen ki knife lag rahi hai kyunki wohi knife missing hai aur Keshav ke neck ke pass kati hui pyaaz ke smell aa rahein hein''. Bhusan clarified.

"To iska matlab murder hone se pehle knife se us murderer ne pyaaz kate the..Hmm..SAMEER!Tum to kitchen mein khana banana aye the..aur apna haath bhi kata tha..Pyaaz kat te waqt..Matlab!'' Ashu Babu tried joining the dots.

"Ashu Babu jaldi kijiye mujhe ek urgent meeting ke liye office jana hai.Aapko kya lagta hai khun kisne kiya hai? ''Somani asked much to annoyance of Ashu Babu.

"Hahha..Somani Babu! Jhooth bolna hai to soch samjhke boliye.Aaj to Sunday hai aur koun sa office mein meeting hota hai? Aur rahi aapka sawal...Shaq ke ghere mein to sab hein..Aap,Aapki Maa,Visakha Ji,Rohan aur Sameer bhi.

Apradhi kaun? Yeh to jald pata chal jayega.'' Ashu Babu spoke as he gestured Bhusan and Sukumar to send the body for post-mortem.
