Zulu... to specifically answer this May 1991 conundrum... sometimes writers get a bee in the bonnet about wanting to marry fact in a fictional tale...For me, personally this is not an irritation..a bit of a distraction at the most...In my mind this is a fictional tale based in the 90s...it's inspiration from real life is fine as far as it lends itself organically to the tale...it makes no difference to me even if they exaggerate aspects of that real event as long as they carry the love tale cogently. When I watch a love story I usually block out the noise around the tale.. poor writing of any scene irritates me..but I generously overlook
creative liberties.

See marriage between Fact and fiction can be done if needed for the storyline..if done properly it can turn out to be marvelous...Many good shows in the past have done that...but for that marriage to be successful the storyline and the whole set up has to be very packed and strong...there shouldn't be loose ends and loop holes lingering around the main story or else this marriage would be a big dud...that's not how good shows are made..or you can say that's not the route that good shows take..This is not the first loop hole they have made...There are many to name...
As writing has been very important for you, similarly for me writing is ofcourse the most imp part..but nowadays all the other secondary things are overpowering the writing and hence it becomes difficult for me (a person who views a show with many aspects including writing, story progression and editing) to many times overlook them...
But as you said and even I have observed this timelines have been a major issue with Desi soap operas...can't expect these guys to be any different in this...
This show has given has very wonderful episodes in the past hope we get that soon...
