Have always wondered about Preeti with respect to this. She is compared to Naina in studies, discipline, color etc. Bela Chachi might not be as imposingly negative as Rakesh but she does tell Preeti once in a while to be like naiNa. It is easy at that age to feel jealous or disheartened.
Probably the gal is happy with what she has and what she is. She is aware of herself, her shortcomings and her strength. Not too bothered about impressing others and in the process creating a pseudo image of yourself/herself.

Good post.

As you showed here, comparisons are important aspect of life.
Only if one can take it in positive way.
Sameer compared his flaws with good and tried to be better. Rakesh used comparisons to downgrade people.
Comparison led Arjun to depression and being a loser.
It was not their situation but their choices, that how they will allow comparison to take them. That's the lesson we can get from here.

Indeed comparisons if not taken positively can cause irreparable harms...It's our choices that make us who we are...
Thank you laizu😊

Amazing post 👏
Rakesh is being mentally tortured by his sister in law. That make him insane and frustrated, when he saw his motives were not getting complete or he didn't get respect as other get. He got frustrated and throw it out by scolding or shouting at everyone.

Sameer is the only character which showed positive impact on the show, earlier bet thing we had seen his good side even in his bet period when he started realising his mistake he was good toward Naina and respect her dignity. That make him best person in all respects. And after bet period is known by everyone what he is!

Arjun was so much drowned by hope of his father. He knows he's father will breakdown if he failed to accomplish his goal. In order to fulfill his father desires he commit mistake. But this is really harmful for him. He need to face the problem as well as choose right thing too.

Arjun is even compared to Sachin Tendulkar

Very beautifully written... Comparison has its owm pros and cons... We all have went through these stages in life where our parents, teachers etc compares us with others... Sometimes we feel bad that v r being compared to others constantly... Especially wen v are compared to our classmates who are better in studies and other activities... In the show naina ws also compared to other girls for looks... Though she ws better in many ways than those so called beautiful girls still she felt bad... Sometimes its good too... Bt mostly it will do more harm than good... Best example for this is arjun.

Thank you dear...
No doubt...we all are compared at some point or the other in our life...

Oh yes Naina is also compared for her looks...not only by other girls but also by her own Taiji...yes she has felt bad...fortunately it didn't cause that harm to her...but there are chances such comparisons can take bad turns and cause irreparable harms such as inferiority complex, jealousy, confidence issues...

A very well written thoughts!! Thanks Zulu, If I may call you that...I am soumya...
Yes, its the society that we grew up in which thrives on comparing oneself, kids, parents, partners to other ...I have observed over the years that this pressure of comparing are more in the south asian cultures...I used to be like that...not my parents...my parents were always very supportive of me...growing up with cousins who were over achievers...engineers, doctors, lawyers from top colleges...always on the top of the class from LKG onwards...I was an average kid and I grew up to be very introverted and self-doubting...But this changed once I started my Masters in the US...I started to see life differently...understood that to each is their own! Everyone has their flaws and positives...You have to be better than what you were the day before...Life here in US teaches a lot of things..atleast for me...When I was like my old me, I was a nervous wreck before, during and after any exams..this didnt allow me to do my best...just like the situation in which Arjun is in now...but the pressure points in my case and his case came from different sources...but the base for the pressure point was the same "comparison"...once you see beyond that...you will be free from it and it will allow you to give your best

Thanks very much for bringing this discussion!

Wow... so apt analysis of comparisons and their consequences on these 3 characters.
Loved how you described that sameer wants to be his better or the best version for Naina .. his comparison is to his old self. It will be interesting when his mom comes in the scene again and pits him against his half brother ... how will he react now that he has changed for Naina

Very well written post. I do not think that there is any redemption for Rakesh at this point. He will always be bitter because of all the taunts and comparisons. Arjun on the other hand can be saved if Naina and Shefali put their minds together to rescue him from himself and his father.
Both Naina and Arjun have a great surrogate father in thier Chacha who is very fair and progressive. Shefali is someone who brings a fresh perspective and clearly wants Arjun to succeed but for himself and no one else which is a great support system for him if he lets her to be. The boy needs love and faith.

Sameer has grown tremendously to give Naina his best version possible but our lover boy has a long way to go and I am rooting for this boy to become a great man.He needs Naina to be his mirror and strength. He also needs his friends who are his surrogate family and an elder who has faith in him. With the rumors of Nana ji passing away and Sameer moving to Delhi I will hold my judgement for our Romeo till then.
