Part 1
He sat in his empty office with a glass in his hand absently looking at the furnisher around. His routine now. He could almost feel comfort in that.
He should go home. "Home," he mused.
No, it's just a place where he eats and sleep. His phone buzzed again. It was Adi, he let it ring to silence. His mother & Adi kept calling him. He didn't know, why they even bother. He knows, that they don't deserve the way he treats them. The way he shouts at them often, subjecting them to his taunts and hate. The hate is actually on himself, which finally ends up affecting them more and he couldn't do a thing about it. Damn.
Didn't they know his own wife left him seeing him for what he really was, abandoned him at his weakest. His guilty head reminded him that he was the one who pushed her away.
Yeah, I did before she could do the honors.
What he wouldn't do to have her take him in her arms and reassure him that he was not at fault. But Alas, he knew that wasn't the case.
It was not the first time he was having this battle with himself, he was quite used to it all by now. He was drowning in his guilt of killing her for the past 7 years, how he destroyed his family and everything with his own deeds and how he killed his daughter.
As if on cue, the glass broke in his hand. Ignoring the pain shooting in his hand, he got up and moved around the office, lost in his own thoughts.
And now she returns back, waltzing into his life as if nothing happened, as if she didn't leave them all behind, as if he was nothing to her, Adi & Pihu were nothing to her. Yeah, why would they be, she already has a daughter and a friend.
His fisted his injured hand involuntarily making the pain worse. He welcomed it.
His phone buzzed again and this time it was Shagun. The one person whose name he would have died to see here would never call him. And everyone else kept calling him again and again. Why is Shagun calling now?
Shagun, whom he declared in front of everybody that he is going to marry. If he were any sober he would have laughed at his own joke but sadly he was not. He wanted a reaction from his wife, any reaction and like a fool he kept doing all kinds of things to get her attention. The person that she was she didn't bulge an inch, why would she..who am I to her.
Out of the haze, something pierced into his brain. Pihu.
The one person he was living for, nowadays.
What if something was wrong with her.He immediately answered the call.
"Raman, where have you been? We are trying to reach you for so long.
Pihu is sick and she is crying for you."
His intuition had been right, "Iam coming," he replied and rushed out of the office.
He barged into the house and what he saw there nearly gave him a heart attack.
Pihu was crying uncontrollably and no one was able to calm her down. He immediately rushed to her and took her in his arms. Shagun & his mother informed him that she was crying for him and not telling them what was ailing her. Shagun kept saying that she even bribed her and promised to take her to the mall, which normally would have pacified her, but today nothing was working.
Like everything else in his life, he was indifferent to Shagun too. He just ignored her. He didn't care what she did. But he knew one thing, he was indebted to her for taking care of Pihu all these years. At the same time he hated seeing her with his daughter when it should have been Ishita. The first smile, the first step, the first word everything should have been for Ishita, for whom he did all this, he longed to give her everything that she missed with Ruhi but fate had some other plans for him.
When he was struggling to deal with Ishita and Ruhi's loss Shagun took charge and cared for Pihu. That is why he never could ask her to leave Pihu alone, and he allowed Pihu to have the illusion of Shagun being her mother. But now he felt irritated with her. Couldn't she atleast find out why Pihu was crying without bribing her.
Shagun is the least maternal person he knew. Even this changed Shagun doesn't know how to be a mother. Her idea of mothering is pampering them with gifts.
He kept pacing with Pihu on his shoulder, trying to calm her down. When she stopped crying a little he gently asked her what was wrong.
She wound her arms tightly around his neck and whispered to him as if she didn't want anyone else to listen to that.
"Papa, Iam having a bad tooth ache. Why didn't you come soon. I didn't inform any of them because they would have took me to a doctor and You know how I am afraid of needles. I didn't want to go with any of them. Not even Mumma. I just want you."
A gentle smile played on his lips, his daughter is afraid of needles just like him. The angel that she was she never failed to bring a smile to his face, however passing one it was.
Rubbing her head soothingly, he turned around and informed them that she had a tooth ache and he is taking her to a hospital. Saying that he moved out.
Adi stopped him in his tracks and asked him "Where will you take her at this time of the night, No clinic will be open now. Please take her to Ishima."
Hearing the name, his BP spiked up again and he shouted at Adi "Stop saying that name, infront of me. She is dead to me. How many times should I repeat that to you."
Without moving down an inch, Adi replied back to him "Kya Papa, Is your ego bigger than Pihu's pain that you will punish her roaming around in the streets instead of taking her to Ishima?"
"You know what, You are right. Ishita is a nobody to me. If she can take away my child's pain then be it."
With that he walked out of the house.
