Shagun is just not negative - Anita Hassanandani
Anita Hassanandani aka Shagun of Yeh Hai Mohabbatein will soon show her comic side in Colors stand-up show Comedy Nights Bachao, "I always like to push myself doing something, what I have not tried before e.g. playing negative in YHM, so when this Optimystix Entertainment (makers of Comedy Circus) offer came along, I was more then game. I always had a funny bone but being a reserved person, I keep my humour to myself."
Is this show not a take on the controversial AIB?, "yes but that was taken to a completely different level. Here we are much controlled. To be honest I at first was a bit hesitant about how the guests would feel at being roasted. But they seem to be taking the jibing in the correct spirit and are rolling on the floor by the time the episodes end." Here she made a candid confession that she is part of the show as actor, "I am not a stand-up artist to write the gags, we gets scripts. My job is to act out the skit along with my co-performer stand- up artists (Sudesh Lahiri and Krushna Abhishekh) to the best of my ability."
Shifting gears to YHM Anita says, "the best part of Shagun is that she has several shades to herself and not just negative. She is someone who gets very vindictive in life when the cards don't fall in place. She is also honest enough to admit that may be she had erred once and is now ready to make amends. I guess what works for her is that there are many woman in real life like her who do get married for money. Initially when I was offered this character, I though it will be a typical vampish role complete with all those nasty eye movements."
How do you approach Shagun? "Immersing my self in the character's situation, I try to imagine how I would have reacted had I been in her place and then play it accordingly."
Among the YHM cast Anita is the most closest to Karan Patel, "I have known him since the past 15 years. As for the others, we all share a good equation and I would love to keep in touch with them even after the show wrap's up. But you know how time consuming our TV industry is. It gets very difficult to stay in touch with folks who you are not working with currently on a regular basis."
