Chapter-4

Adi felt like he was talking to a wall. For the past 20 mins he has been trying to get his Papa interested in his new video game, painstakingly explaining the nuances, hoping for some positive response from him. Little did he know that his Papa was still reeling from the effect of the first kiss he shared with his wife just a while back. Adi finally gave up and walked out of his room to find his Chachu.

Raman wanted to be left alone for a few moments but didn't have the heart to disappoint his son and so he has been trying his best to feign interest in that godawful video game. But try as he may,he couldn't as his mind constantly flashed images of her flushed face, her thoroughly kissed and delectable lips and most of all that one moment when she stopped him from leaving, her eyes clearly reflecting that which she shied away from saying. He shook his head yet again as if to shake off those images and realized that Adi was not in the room anymore. Minutes later Adi walked in with Romi who looked only too happy to take over from him. He breathed a sigh of relief and went downstairs hoping to catch a glimpse of his Madrasan who had been busy since their little rendezvous at Amma's place in the evening . Her jaw dropping comment about not wanting to spoil the taste in her mouth' had fuelled his desires again but she had since then effortlessly slipped into her household chores.

Ishita's heartbeats haven't bothered to slow down at all since that kiss, though she tried to distract herself with some mundane household work. It only got worse when she had to go back to her Amma's place to discuss something with Mihika. Walking past that spot where they kissed, she had almost forgotten the purpose of her visit. It wasn't the first kiss of her life but it was her first kiss with Raman. And she realized that, had they kissed long back , they would not have had to verbally confess their feelings for each other. Now while setting the table for dinner, she started to worry about the sleeping arrangements for the night. He had tried to be assertive when he told her that they are not sleeping separately tonight, only to go weak with desire the very next moment telling her how much he wanted her.It had triggered her nervousness once again, threatening to put a damper on her excitement.

The loud beep of her phone broke her trail of thoughts now and she realized that the timimg couldn't be more perfect . It was a text message from her Vandu Akka. The worry lines on her face disappeared as she read the message " Ishu..this is a GENTLE REMINDER ..jo humne aaj discuss kiya ..woh bhool mat jaana. Agar bhool gayi ho toh aur bhi tareekhein hain tujhe yaad dilaane ke liye.

PS : You love Raman and he loves you . Nothing else matters."

She couldn't help but smile at her Akka's thoughtfulness. The first part of the message was a direct threat while the latter part was an attempt to rid her of her insecurities. She typed her response: "Bhooli nahi hoon Akka. Zyada kuch nahi kahoongi. Sirf itna samajh li jiye ki I have set the ball rolling!!" She didn't have to wait for long before her phone beeped again : "That's my girl !! Love ya..Mwah!" . She put the phone down grinning ear to ear. The grin disappeared as she looked up and saw Raman looking intently at her standing at the other end of the table and she blushed. Seeing her blush like that, his heart did a little happy dance and he took a deep breath to stop himself from grabbing her and kissing her right then and there.

Slowly,the entire family sat down for dinner except Ishita who was trying to get a reluctant Ruhi to eat her vegetables. Inspite of a grumbling stomach, Raman slowed down the pace of his eating, hoping she would take her place next to him and they could eat together. However, after feeding Ruhi she got busy serving the other family members not even bothering to glance in his direction. Adding to his annoyance was his cousin Raj & his wife who just wouldn't shut up, with Romi egging them on and trying to have a good laugh at their expense.When he ran out of patience, he called out to Ishita asking her to serve him some Palak Paneer. She walked over to him and standing close to him bent down and leaned across the table to pick up the dish. While doing so, she whispered to him "Kiss me Raman !". He blinked, unsure of the words he just heard . "What ??" he asked her , keeping his voice low."Oh Aloo ki sabzi ?...Sure" She said and leaned over again to reach for the Aloo dish and again managed to whisper "Remember ? you asked me to say it. So I am saying it now. Kiss me!".

She served him the sabzi , went back to where Ruhi was seated and sat down next to her. Raman's apetite vanished and he stared at her in disbelief while she started eating without a care in the world.

"Bhai aap bhabhi ko hi dekhte rahoge ..ya khana bhi khaaoge ?" Romi could not stop himself from asking. The entire family's focus shifted to him now with everyone laughing at him and teasing him. He had to force himself to concentrate on his food which tasted quite bland now.There was only one thing that could bring back the taste in his mouth and it was far from his reach now.

At the other end of the table Ishita was in no better state herself although she pretended otherwise. She didn't know what had come over her in that one moment when he called out to her for some Palak Paneer. She knew that he was trying to get her attention and the JKR in her wanted to say something to stump him and boy did he get stumped?? The look on his face was priceless!! She suppressed a grin and tried to gobble down the food on her plate. Once done ,she picked up her plate and walked towards the kitchen, all the while feeling his heated gaze on her. She set the plate on the counter and turned to look at him. For a second there, she thought he would just walk over and kiss her right there. His passionate gaze burned into her and she stood rooted to the spot, her insides slowly turning into jelly. No, she did not look away this time. She held his gaze for the longest time possible and broke eye contact only when Simmi entered the kitchen saying something. She tried to concentrate on what Simmi was trying to say but her mind was elsewhere. The thought of how he was going to make her pay for this started to make her feel warm all over again.

"Ishitaa!! " Simmi's voice brought her back to earth.

Kya hua Simmi ..bolo na ".

"Tu rehne de...main saaf karloongi kitchen..kab se main yahi bol rahi hoon..lagta hai..tere pair ke saath saath na tera dimaag bhi theek se nahi chal raha hai..pls thoda rest kar lo!"

"Haan..theek hai..I ll just make myself some coffee". She needed her caffeine fix badly and also a reason to hang around in the kitchen till she mustered up the courage to face him and tell him that they can't be together tonight. She had actually thought of getting him to Amma's place .They could sleep in her room which no one used now and she had somehow managed to tidy it up yesterday. But the problem now was that Amma had asked her to speak to Mihika .As normal and happy as she appeared to the outside world , in reality Mihika was an emotional mess . And then there was Ruhi who had made it very clear that she will be sleeping with her Ishima tonight and had demanded a bedtime story too. She stealed a glance at Raman who was seated on the living room couch ,pretending to read something. While everyone was slowly retiring to their respective rooms , she knew that he was waiting for her. She took her cup of coffee and decided to try and explain the situation to him , hoping he would understand.

She asked Romi who was sitting next to Raman on the couch to shift to the other end. Romi obeyed her without uttering a word. She sat down between them and started sipping on her coffee. Feeling like a kabab mein haddi , Romi shifted his base to the bean bag a little further away and plugged in his ear phones. Raman lowered the magazine in his hand and turned to her. "Mujhe maar ne ki koshish kar rahi ho ?" She smiled and offered her cup to him "Coffee?". He was not a fan of coffee but he was tempted to take a sip from her cup and started sipping on the coffee. Romi couldn't contain his excitement seeing the cute scene unfold in front of his eyes. This was a pleasant change from his Bhai's usual taunts and one liners and his Bhabhi's angry pout. He gestured to Simmi who was in the kitchen and pointed towards the much in love couple. Simmi gestured back to him to keep quiet and not disturb them.

"Madrasan tum ne bataya nahi "

"Kya?"

"Kya ho gaya hai tumhe ?"

"Aap ko nahi pata ?"

"Nahi pata ..tum batao"

"Mujhe jo hua hai woh aaj nahi bohat pehle hi ho gaya tha"

"Accha ? Kya ?"

"Aap se pyaar ! Hey! ..dont finish my coffee ". She took the cup from his hand and drained the rest of the coffee. He looked at her ,highly amused, unable to take his eyes off her. She professed her love and worried about her coffee, all in one breath. He suddenly felt an indescribable urge to pull her onto his lap and just cuddle her. The warm feeling in his heart was so overwhelming and in that instant he felt like he was falling in love with her all over again. She did not fail to notice the sudden change of expression on his face. The faint smile on his lips , the sparkle in his eyes and for a fleeting second she saw an ocean of love for her reflecting in those eyes. She blinked and it was gone but he continued to stare at her. While the couple was so into each other ,completely oblivious to what was going on around them, Simmi had managed to capture that perfect moment on her phone camera. She silently walked over to Romi and showed him the pic. Romi was very vocal in admiring the perfect click by his sister and that brought the couple out of their trance.

"Kya dekh rahe ho phone pe ?" asked a very curious Raman.

They walked over to Raman and Ishita and showed the picture to them , completely prepared to get a earful from their Bhai. He looked at the pic and then back at Simmi. "WhatsApp pe share karo , jaldi" he said , his face breaking into a smile.All four of them had a good laugh about it before Raman shooed away his siblings saying he had something important to discuss with his wife.

He turned to her now . "Toh Madrasan, kya plan hai ? Dinner bhi ho gaya , photo bhi click kar liya..where are we crashing tonight ? As there are no rooms available here..I am assuming your place ?"

She looked at him with a guilty expression " Please Raman..sirf aaj raat ki baat hai.."

He cut her off "I knew this was too good to last..Jao tum..goodnight !" . Saying this he turned away from her. She held his chin and turned his face back to her. "Meri baat toh suno..pehli baat toh yeh hai ki , aapki beti ko aaj uski Ishima ke saath hi sona hai...aur doosri baat yeh hai ki..mujhe Mihika se kuch zaroori baat karni hai..kuch tension hai..Raman ".

"What happened to Mihika?" he looked concerned now.

"Abhi main kuch zayada nahi keh sakti is bare mein..par woh theek nahi hai..sirf theek hone ka dikhawa kar rahi hai.."

"Hmm.."

"Gusaa mat ho Raman .." They were interrupted by Ruhi's loud voice.

"Ishimaaa !!!. I am ready. Lets go !" Dressed in her night suit , she came running and almost fell on Ishita in her excitement. Raman pulled her onto his lap.

"Papa..aaj main Ishimaa ke saath so rahi hoon" She declared gleefully.

"Beta..aise jale pe namak nahi chidakte..bohat jalan hota hai.." He glanced at Ishita meaningfully and she rolled her eyes.

"Kya Papa. Jale pe kya ?"

"Kuch nahi beta ..Aap Papa ke saath kyun nahi so jaate? Papa bhi toh aap ko acche stories sunate hai na..?"

"Lekin ..mujhe Ishima ke balon ke saath khelna hai..aap ke toh itne chottu baal hai" She sniggered at him pulling on his hair.

He looked at Ishita longingly, his eyes going all over her long lustrous hair. It broke her heart.

"Beta aap Ishima ko bolo...ki woh bohat zyada pachtayegi !".

"Kya Papa..? Pachtayegi matlab ?"

"Kuch nahi beta..I am sure matlab aap ki Ishima ko samajh agayi hai"

"Raman..kya aap baccho se aise.." She hit him lightly on his shouder.

"Chalo na Ishima!." Ruhi whined and they decided to call it a night .

Ruhi wished her Papa goodnight and kissed him on his cheek. When Ishita turned to leave, Ruhi tugged at her hand . "Ishima ..aap Papa ko goodnight kissy nahi doge ?"

Surprising Raman , Ruhi's Ishima leaned in and kissed him lightly on his cheek. His face lit up and she turned away blushing a little. He watched them leave and he realized that he was better off without that kiss as the feel of her lips on his cheek brought back memories of their kiss leaving him aching for more.

He locked the door and literally dragged himself up the stairs to Adi's room. He wasn't too happy to find Adi still gamimg. He pulled the plug on his game and Adi started to whine. "Kya Papa.. Aap aise kaise.."

"Enough Adi..chuttiyon ka matlab yeh nahi ki der raat tak game khelte raho..ab chup chap so jao."

Adi knew when not to push his Papa and so he settled down on his side of the bed. Raman switched off the lights and closed his eyes but he knew that sleep was not going to come that easy , all thanks to his Madrasan .

Ishita caressed Ruhi's forehead and watched her slip into a blissful sleep. Thankfully, she did not demand more than one story tonight unlike most other nights when it started with one story and slowly turned into a storytelling marathon.When she was absolutely sure that Ruhi was asleep, she quietly made her way out, closing the door gently behind her and slipped into Mihika's room.

Mihika was too happy to have her Akka for company but was reluctant to talk about her issues. Ishita spent the next one hour trying to get Mihika to open up to her and she felt like she was talking to another version of herself. Mihika was stubborn as hell and too proud to discuss her pain. She tried to use some of Vandu Akka's tactics and manged to make some progress.

The clock showed 1 AM now and Raman continued to toss and turn in his bed. Adi who was a light sleeper finally lost his patience. "Papa..aap aise hi karte rahenge toh main so nahi paaoonga !"

"Sorry beta .. tu so ja.. I will be quiet ..main disturb nahin karoonga". He got up from the bed and walked out of the room as he knew he would only end up disturbing his son if he stayed.

He wandered downstairs, unsure of what to do. For some reason the living room couch looked more inviting to him. He went back upstairs ,got his pillow and blanket and came back and settled down on the couch. With sleep still evading him, he pulled out his phone and tried to find some comfort in the picture clicked by Simmi. They have posed for many many pictures as a couple,looking straight into the camera and smiling confidently. But this was a random click in which they were so blissfully lost in each other's eyes. He stared at the picture for the longest time and slowly his eyes started getting droopy. Barely 10 mins would have elapsed since he closed his eyes, he felt a weight pressing down on the couch near his feet. His eyes flew open and he sat up with a start , disoriented but ready to attack the figure sitting near his feet.

"Sshh ! Raman..main hoon! " She sounded more scared.

"Ishita ???" he rubbed his eyes repeatedly to make sure it was really her.

"Nahi.Deepika Padukone! " Saying this she pulled his blanket ,squeezed herself next to him on the couch and covered them both with the blanket.
