CHAPTER-1
KUCH TO BOLO"Wedding between North and South is trending nowadays yaar. You should try this."
Mihir's voice brought him out from the mail in which he was sunk in for a while. He stared at him emitting his dislike on the talk Mihir has been keeping on from when he came inside his cabin. Raman put aside his mobile after glancing at Mihir sideways. He stretched his hands as if showing that he is READY TO HEAR his words or he is READY TO BEAT him. Mihir pushed himself back along with the chair and clutched the table with both his hands, which showed that he is READY TO RUN at any moment. Raman smiled at Mihir and signed him to continue. Mihir touched his chest letting out a relief and went on.
Mihir: "Ladki ka naam Ishita Iyer hai. BBA kar rahi dhi. Kuch health issues hone ki vajha se discontinue kiya. Aur..."
(The girl's name is Ishita Iyer. Discontinued her BBA midways because of some health problems)
Raman: "Matlab ladki ko degree tak nahi?"
(That means she don't even have a degree)
Mihir: "Let me complete..."
Raman: "Kya yaar...?"
(What?)
Mihir: "Suno to..."
(Hear me...)
Raman: "Haan...bol"
(Yeah...tell)
Mihir: Dreamily, "She is so beautiful...no PRETTY!"
Raman: Crinkling his eyebrows, "Tune dekha?"
(Did you see?)
Mihir: "Haan...ek baar...temple main! Miku ki friend hai!"
(Yes...once...in a temple! She is Miku's friend)
Raman: "Pagal hoga."
(She must be mad)
Mihir: "No yaar...Mihika jaise nahi...badi achi hai...!"

Raman: Mocking him, "Acha...tujhe Mihika ke baare main itna to pata hai!"

Mihir: "Vo chod...let me say about her..."
Raman: "Shayar ban jaao yaar." Smacking his own head, "Kya haalat hai mera!"

Mihir: "To kya haan kehdoon mummiji se?"
(May I say yes to Mummiji?)
Raman: "Ab nahi...tum complete karo. Phir sochenge."
(Not now. You complete it. Then I'll think)
Mihir: "Hogaya."
(It's over)
Raman: "Kya hogaya? Degree complete nahi kiya aur kab complete karne vali hai...? Meri biwi educated hona chahiye. Aur vo kitne saal se ghar mein bina kuch karke baitha hai?"
(What over? Didn't complete her degree and when will she do it? My wife should be educated. For how many years she is sitting in her home without doing anything?)
Mihir: "Vo...yaar..."
(That...)
Raman: "Wait a minute...vo Mihika ki friend hai...matlab she is around 21! Itni chotti ladki ko...main? What the hell Mihir? Mujhe at least 25 year old ladki chahiye. Ab tum ja sakte hai."
(Wait a minute...She's Mihika's friend...which means she is around 21! Such a small girl and me? What the hell Mihir? I want a girl of at least 25 years old. You may go now)
Mihir: "Ek baar aur socho yaar..."
(Think once again)
Raman: "Main tum jaise nahi hoon. Mujhe yeh sab sochna hai."
(I'm not like you. I need to think all these)
EVENING AT BHALLA HOUSEMr Bhalla is talking on phone to Mr Iyer about their visit next day regarding the proposal. That was when Raman entered his home and halted in his way. He waited for his father to cut the call to lay his concerns on matrimony. Mr Bhalla just patted his shoulder as if asking him not to think too much. His act made Raman feel like he had gone back to his childhood days when his father decided each and everything in his life. When he got into his teens, his parents never intervened in his personal life and decisions. But lately, they started doing it again. On the topic of his marriage!
NIGHT AT IYER HOUSEMr Iyer walked into Ishita's bedroom where she was sitting in a corner, reading a novel. Feeling the slightest movement of the door she threw the book on the table and tightly hugged her legs hiding her face in it. He cleared his throat to let her know that it is none other than her father. She relaxed a bit and focused on his father who is descending towards her. She clutched her mobile tightly while Mr Iyer sat on her bed. She looked at him without blinking and darted her eyes from him in a jiffy when she heard another movement nearing her room; her mother. She loosened up a little and looked on as if she is seeing them for the first time.
Mr Iyer: "Ishu kanna...mujhe tujhse kuch kehna hai...ki...vo..."
(Ishu...I want to say something to you...that...)
With that his eyes welled up as he didn't know how to present the topic. He found it way too difficult for him to sound normal. Mrs Iyer touched his shoulder and waved him to go out as she will handle her. He obeyed her while Ishu let out a sigh of relief. Mrs Iyer came and sat beside her. Ishu rested her head on her lap while she caressed her hair lovingly. She told her about the party who are going to come for seeing her. Ishu gripped on her amma's saree which explained her predicaments. She asked her to sleep peacefully as everything will be fine. Then she walked out of the room, giving a goodnight kiss to her daughter, to console her sobbing husband.
MORNING AT BHALLA HOUSEThe Bhalla family, including Mihir, got ready to visit the girl for Raman. Raman was cursing himself for getting a mad and unpredictable family like this. He was worried over the fact that he is not getting a chance to make the pivotal decision of his life.
MORNING AT IYER HOUSEVandita came home early morning as her parents informed the last minute decision to her at midnight. She ran to her parents shoving away her husband and son asking them on their quick decision.
Vandita: "Appa...amma...ennathith? Ishu...she is a baby. Use shaadi...? She needs some more time appa."
(Appa-amma...what's this? Ishu is a baby. Her shaadi? She needs some more time.)
Mr Iyer looked sternly at her making her stop her blabbering. He cleared her that it is just a visit not her marriage. Vandita couldn't digest the idea. So she dropped the plan of talking to them and walked into Ishu's bedroom. Ishu ran to her embracing hands happily. She asked her if she is ok, to which she nodded with a dim smile.
BHALLAS IN IYER'SThe Bhallas came in time and enjoyed the warm welcome from the Iyers. Raman was not happy inside, but he had put on a gentle smile on his face. He somehow respected his parents' decision. When Toshi ji asked about Ishu, Mrs Iyer ran to the room to call her out. Ishu was a bundle of nerves as she walked out of the room to the living room. Raman looked up at her and found Mihir's words true as his life. She was so beautiful...No...PRETTY.
Raman's POVAge...?
Kyun? Aaj kal kaun yeh sab dekhta hai?
(Why? Who looks for it nowadays?)
Vo...main kya soch rahe hai?
(What am I thinking?)
Well...I like her...She is perfect for me.!

Education?
Two years complete kiya hai na...ab ek aur year. Convince karlenge shaadi ke baad.
(Two years had completed, now one more. I'll convince her after marriage)
SHAADI?
(Marriage?)
Raman: To the Iyers, "If you don't mind, mujhe apki beti se personally baat karna hai."
(I want to talk to her in person)
The Iyers stiffened at his demand at the same time the Bhallas supported him. Mr Iyer agreed because he had no choice other than that. Ishu flew to her room like a ghost who has no legs followed by Raman and a tensed Vandita. Raman and Vandita bumped at the door. Raman excused the nosy sister and walked in. Vandita stayed there itself waiting for an opportunity to get inside.
When Raman entered the room, Ishita gripped on her duppatta tightly as if her life is depended on it. He cleared his throat which made her root to the spot with fear.
Raman: "Vo...main Raman Bhalla."
(I'm Raman Bhalla)
Peeps to see her in vain.
"Could you please face me?"
Ishita turns slowly to him, her eyes still cast away.
Raman: Smiling softly, "Mujhe aise sharmili ladkiyan bilkul pasand nahi hai. But it's ok."
(I don't like such shy girls. But it's ok)
Ishita's grip on the duppatta tightens a bit more which is clearly noticed by him.
Raman: "Ap kuch bolte kyun nahi?"
(Why are you not talking anything?)
Ishita looks at him with teary eyes while he backs of fearing if he had offended her. He said sorry for the nth time while she began to cry vigorously. He tried to pacify her by patting her shoulder only to get slapped by her. He looked on horrified while she kept on throwing things on him. Her mobile hits his right forehead and started bleeding. But he kept on observing at her frantic moves.
The people outside became anxious to know the reason behind the noise inside. Vandita gestured everyone to be calm and she walked inside the room hastily and grabbed Ishu by her arms. She hugged her and hid her face in Vandita's shoulder as if she has seen a monster. Raman couldn't make out his voice so he stayed like that watching the scenes unfolding in front of him. After what felt like forever, he asked Vandita, "Kya hua isko?"
(What happened to her?)
Vandita looked at his upset countenance while soothing her sister and voiced in a mere whisper, "She cannot talk"
