I was sick and in the hospital. I am still a student, for the next few weeks at least. I met him before all that happened. He proposed after all that happened.

Yes, I am graduating in May with a dual Masters (MS in biology and MBA). It has been three extremely long and grueling years of studying so I couldn't be happier that this phase of my academic career is finally coming to an end.

Let's refer to him as "S" because it sounds weird to call him "my R&B." 😆

During undergrad, I was part of a dance team at my college (nivi "dances"...there is so much creativity behind that username 🤣). The team hosts a Bollywood Night fundraiser every year to raise money for competitions, costumes, etc. and they sometimes ask alumni to perform at the event. This year, I was invited to do a performance and I agreed. Divashni and her R&B came to support me and also invited Divashni's cousin (Rohan), who lives in area. After the show, Rohan invited us all to his house for dinner, which I later found out to my dismay was apparently a pre-planned party that my sneaky roommate had not informed me of because I tend to avoid such occasions like the plague. 😡

Long story short, I was sitting off in a quiet corner with my glass of iced tea (since I don't consume alcohol) as everyone else got drunk. S came and said hi. The corny chemistry jokes were exchanged and then he pulled me up for a dance ("waltzed into my life"...get it now? 😳).

*Spoiler*

S is Rohan's friend, but he is also Divashni's old neighbor (her brother and S went to high school together). I had no clue about the second fact until just last week. 😲 Sneaky roommate claims that it was not at all her plan to set the two of us up, but I have my doubts. Doesn't it seem fishy to you all as well? Where/how/why she got this matchmaking idea...I have absolutely no clue because she herself claims that she never expected the two of us to hit it off. Go figure. 🤔

Anyways, a couple of days later, S sent a text asking me out for coffee, which ended up as a whole day of touring museums around NYC 😊. Then my birthday happened and he surprised me by showing up with a cake at the restaurant (again this doesn't seem possible without Divashni's help...hence I am calling this "semi-arranged").

And then of course I got miserably sick. What he did while I was sick is basically what sealed it for me though. As I'm sure most of you know, residency is perhaps the most grueling period in a doctor's life...they are severely overworked, grossly underpaid, and just treated so poorly. But the guy who is dealing with all that in his own life went out of his way to call me at least 5 times a day, visited me almost every single night (he lives about an hour away from me so yes it's a big deal), and stayed with me at the hospital for two nights (after working a 12 hour shift) to give my mom the break that she so desperately needed.

The proposal? I was discharged from the hospital in the morning and he came to visit me that evening. My mom went out to get some groceries with Divs since I was being "monitored." 😃 Well by the time they came back, they found a newly "engaged" couple. 😳 There was no ring but he put his stethoscope around my neck. 😆

Yes there's some parts about phone/Skype calls with my parents and his parents that I left out, but you get the gist. 😊

I'm 5'8".

He can't wear flip flops or cargoes at work, so I have largely only seen him in his scrubs.

That mark won't be until a few years down the line...until then we both have a mountains of student debt to pay. 😭

And more like I was trying to run around and meet advisors and professors to push back all the deadlines I missed. Don't let your imagination run so wild. 😆

Abhi kuch nahi socha hai. 😕 At the moment the only dancing that is happening is of my fingers on the keyboard as I write this thesis. 😭

He has two left feet 😆 but it's adorable to watch him trying. And the best part...he's not afraid to look like a fool on the dance floor. So much confidence 👏

His family is originally from Chandigarh, but he was born and raised here...so a full ABCD as you called it. Hindi aur punjabi dono bolta hai...fluently. Shaadi will happen in the motherland only.

Phew, you've tired me out! 🥱 I'm going to stop hijacking the thread now and go grab some dinner. 😊

PS: Oh, I already told him to go buy a new stethoscope for himself. 😛 He is most definitely not getting this one back. 😉 😳
