The beeping sound of his phone started to irritate him after some while of its constant ringing. And when finally he could take a calmed intake of air, the device he detested the most again started to beep. He had no intentions of answering the call, but just in sheer curiosity and fear that it could have been an important being of his office he took it out of his pocket just with the intention to look at the caller's name.
'Neil', it said, he flipped it back around ignoring it and kept it in his pocket. The anticipation was very high; he wanted to know what was so important that his lawyer was continuously pestering him. Could it be for the divorce papers? It couldn't, he strictly laid down the rules that he was not to show the papers to his wife before his arrival at Singapore. But he was also no sort to back down from something, Neil was close to his family, he had seen the gham in the surrounding of the house once he got to see them from another view. That home, which had so much khushi in it...as people would see it, was indeed an address of real struggles and silent, constant and pleading prayers. "Could he take a risk at losing his job?" he thought before picking up the call.
"Hello."
"Bhai, the papers-"
"I warned you once Pathak and that was your last warning, you leave me no choice but to-"
"Bhai, you think I called you because I was scared of losing my job? Then you're wrong I would be willing to lose it if I had the knowledge that someone's life is benefitting from it."
"So, you showed the papers? How dare you?! You came out as just a big scumbag as any other lawyer would be! I told you to keep it confidential until I reach my destination; you were bound by a contract you are no matter what going to lose-"
"Bhai, will you listen to me!" The loud scream startled the individual whimpering behind him.
"What!?" He retorted with equal strength in his voice.
"Bhai, everything's-" He stopped midway of his sentence and stepped out of the room in fear that his Bhabhi would again go through an emotional breakdown which she just compiled herself from minutes ago.
"Everything's okay right?" Raman asked concerned.
"Haan everything's...aapko kya hai...this is none of your business."
"What do you mean? She's my wife! I have the right to know about her."
"Was."
"No, she didn't sign them yet, technically she's still my-"
"She signed them, when I was leaving from when we were giving away our farewells to you she spotted us when we were talking at the corner of the room and then...she overheard everything. She called me when you left and...and I had to tell her everything." His soft sobs could be heard by Raman on the other side of the line.
"So, she signed them."
"Yes, Bhai." He said falling to his knees, only to feel a hand clutching his shoulder as a support for him.
"Huh, Bhabhi, nothing it's just-" He tried to cover it up, but she was also no fool. Hell! She herself signed those papers and it could possibly not be a coincidence when Pathak would be so emotional over just a mere client's case.
"Pathak, give me the phone." She said gesturing her hand in front of him.
"But Bhabhi, it's-"
"Pathak, just give it to me, I at least deserve some few minutes of talk with my husband before I never see him again, don't I?"
Her expressionless face was just the salt to the wounds for him, how could his Bhabhi not at all be affected by the giant step Raman took to...end their relationship.
"Raman, I just want to say-"
'Beeep' Was all she heard, he was too much of a coward to face even his wife! Even though the communication was just through voices he feared to see the pain in her again. To go through a complete flashback of all the times he had caused hurt to her, and how she faced them with utmost strength.
And yet she was doing the same here. She stood strong against her own emotions, to show him that she was no weak damsel, that she would happily embrace the conditions that come along with him. But, he never saw this part of the story, his eyes were too busy looking at the guilt present in him of every moment of their lives, but he failed to see the image of his wife gracefully accepting each and every hurdle through their lives.
When Adi had committed the felony of underage driving and even caused an accident of a loved one, she was at first determined to catch the wrong-doer but then stepped back from her vows for her husband's and son's sake that she was to not give such a harsh punishment. Yet she took a step forward for them, for them to flourish as father and son, she gave her best effort to help them be what they were before.
He realised that this Ishita, was not his anymore, he had no right to acknowledge her his wife anymore. That time had gone when she would care about his opinion for the attire she should wear, when she would drag him out of the room just for a few minutes alone with him, when she would shamelessly brag about her husband's pros while again shamelessly hiding his cons when she had a gals talk with her sisters, when she would purposefully lie to the family members with the pretext that she had work overload when she would go on dinners with him in posh restaurants. His eyes opened that when a woman ignores you, it's pretty much like she doesn't care anymore.
"Does she really not care anymore?" He asked himself whilst he sat in the waiting lounge.
"Gotta deal with it Raman, and either way what you're doing is for her good only, it's your decision, stand by it."
"Is it really for my good?" He visualized her saying so, and asked himself the same.
"Is it really good for her?"
'Beep beep' the same sound he heard which irritated him an hour ago, he found melodious, it was even more lightening when he saw the name displayed, 'Ishita'. The name never sounded so easy on the ear, he would once call out her name in frustration every morning, but today, he didn't want to be the usual Raman he was, even though it was just a phone conversation and just a few 'hellos' and 'goodbyes' were going to be exchanged he wanted to make every minute count.
On the show, we all know how Raman tried to give hints to Ishita about his feelings and desires, by keeping a box of condoms in her drawer. An...
