Part 2
The rain was still pouring down like anything, while she still sat on the wooden bench puffing cigarette, and he stood there, with this jacket little wet from the rain.
He looked at his watch, how come time was no passing today he thought, why when today he wanted to pass it then why it felt as heavy as lead. Why each moment was making him more frustrated. Why he wanted to run away from the his life and here he was, away from his life, away from the daily hustle-bustle and yet he wanted to run away, again into the mess, that his life was.
He couldn't decide, whether this period was hassle-some or the time that he was about to spend once he reaches home. The same place where so many memories, so many dreams laid shattered, where his life scattered in one blow, where resides no one, except his loneliness and hurt, that he went through, a few years ago that still laid afresh in his bosom. May be this time was the time he should perhaps keep his past in rest and enjoy this moment.
Rain, after all this was one season that he used to love and cherish. How can he just hate this season, this moment because of one person? Would it be justifiable?
He looked up at the grey clouds and his lips curved. When he heard the alien voice that he least expected and wanted, "Time kya hua?"
He looked down at her and turned away, without responding. When she again said, "Time??"
He, subduing his anger sighed and said, "11:30"
"Kya? 11:30, aur ek bhi aadmi nahi... aaj ka toh din hi kharab hai..." and then she looked at him anguished, as if blaming him and said, "Aur jo hai bhi vo kisi kaam ka nahi..."
While he turned towards her angrily, making her heart flutter with fear but next moment she burst out in peels of free laughter. Like nothing in this world affected her, like what she said didn't had any impact on her, like her work didn't ashamed her. He looked at her in amazement, thinking, What kind of woman she is, who is least bothered about her reputation, about propriety, and then thought, maybe she belongs to group that don't have any selfrespect.
And then he walked towards another wooden bench laid far away from where she was sitting, when she suddenly started humming some old melody, as he sat down, he saw her closing her eyes and singing with all concentration that she could muster, the lines on her forehead told him how deeply she was involved in the moment.
And then suddenly stopped and looked at him, who in turn was looking at her with stern eyes, and said sarcastically, "Kya hua? Achha nahi laga? Chikni Chameli gaau?"
And resumed her singing.
He, however controlled himself of the outburst that was on his tongue, and instead he asked strictly, "Stop it! Stop singing!"
She stopped immediately at his outburst, and looked at him angrily and stood up and marched towards him, and stopped infront of him and said in high pitch, "Kyu? Baap ka raaj hai? Agar tujhe achha nahi laga toh ghar jao... yahan kyun ho? Jao apni biwi ke paas jao."
And he finally lost it and replied with an equal ferocity, " haan toh koi shauk nahi hai mujhe yahan rukne ka..."
"Pata nahi teri biwi tujhe jhelti kaise hai..." she said and went back on the bench and slumped down, cursing him under breath. "Sara mood hi kharab kar diya..."
While he looked at her angrily, anguished at her remarks and turned away from her sight.
Just then he heard a motor bike and alarm at her reaction to it.
"Aiyoo... ye kahan se aa gaya aaj?" he head her muttering laced with frustration. He turned towards her, a for a moment there eyes locked, and surprisingly he could read nervousness in them, he immediately looked away, when he heard her address him, and he was surprised to hear concern in her tone, "Saab, aap yahan se jaiyye." He looked at her confused, but obliged, after all he didn't wanted to be an interruption in her way.
After walking a new steps, he turned and looked back where she stood with her hand on her hip and other holding a wrapped package, while the man standing, to his astonishment was an inspector and a hawaldar. He thought to go forward and ask his help, but then next moment he heard a *Thrash*, his feet froze, the inspector it her on one cheek and then was twisting her hand back brutally which made him flinch with disgust. He could have bore anything but violence and that too against a woman!!
He came forward angrily and clearly disgusted and said, "Hey!"
While the inspector looked at him confused and then angrily strode towards him, "Kya? Kaun hai tu haan? Kya problem hai teri?"
"Dekhiye aap ek aurat ko aise treat nahi kar sakte... inspector hoke bhi..." Raman said to make him understand.
"Ohh... toh tu ab mujhe sikhayega haan?" inspector held him by collar, the inspector was few inches taller than him, but still Raman was not intimidated by it, infact he was about to push him when she came and held the inspector's upper arm, untangling him with Raman and said soothing, "Aap bhi kahan isske chakkar mein pad gaye... chodiye isse... mere saath aayyiiee..." she with that she took the inspector to one of the dark corners, while Raman stood with anger evident on his face, and he screamed, "Darn you!" while the hawaldar said keeping his hand on his shoulder, "Inspector gusse vale hain... jaane do..."
After a few moments, the inspector came out of the darkness adjusting his belt and went off with the hawaldar on his bike.
He stood watching the down pour and the surroundings, when she again reappeared, she looked as before, nothing amiss. She quietly took a seat on the bench and took one cigarette from her flimsy purse and lighted it and starting making puffs.
While he came forward, and stood infront of her and asked, "Kya hua?" hinting what transpired between her and the inspector in dark.
While she looked at him quite amused, and said, "Aarti utar ke aayi hoon."
While he looked disheveled, and apologetic, something that she had never seen anyone for her. She was surprised.
After a peaceful silence, he spoke, " Tumhara naam kya hai?"
"Naam?", she smiled at him and then said shaking her head, "Rozy, Doll, champa, chameli..." and then looked at him, as she saw confusion fill his eyes, she continued, "Bohot se naam hain iss jagah mere... koi ek naam nahi hai... aur jo tha woh ab bohot dhundhla ho chukka hai..."
He looked at her in anticipation. She sighed and said, "Vaise log mujhe Chandni bulate hain... kehte hain ke mai chandni jaisi hoon" and smiled.
"Aur tum raat bhar yahan..." he said, but couldn't complete in hesitation.
"Haan yehi karti hoon...", she said, reading awkwardness in his eyes.
"Kab se kar rahi ho?" he said.
"Iss January mein poore teen saal ho jayenge!" she said looking at him, chirpily.
"ye sab mazak hai tumhare liye?" and saying that he turned away, why did he think that a woman can have a genuine reason to opt this line... woman are like that... they are just after money, no matter what they have to do in return.
"Mazak nahi hai yeh... par yehi life hai saab... agar iss life ko seriously le liya toh phir jiyungi kaise?" she said, seeing him walk away. And stood up and walked behind, she didn't know why she felt need to clear him that she was not that bad, "Itni buri nahi hoon saab..." and she stood near him and asked, " aapka ye first time hai na? Aap isse pehle mere jaisi kisi se nahi mile ho na?"
While he turned towards her, surprised and nodded in negative, "Nahi..."
"Tabhi... Filmo mein zaroor dekha hoga... par hum unn se bohot alag hain... sachhai bohot different hai..." she said, looking at him and smiling lightly.
They stood there in silence for a moment or two and then she broke the silence, "Naam kya hai aapka saab?"
"Raman... Raman Kumar Bhalla."
"Punjabi hai aap... Punjabi lagte hain..." she said looking at him.
"achha... tumhe toh bohot patta hai... aur kaisa lagta hoon mai?" he asked in fun.
She looked at him up and down, and then at his face and then smiled and said, "Pata nahi... mai aap baki mardon ki tarah nahi hain... Ladki baaz nahi hain aap..."
He cringed and looked at her, at her point and said, " your tongue... its so..."
"Bohot Buri hai... janti hoon... but kya kar sakti hoon, keechar mein reh kar thoda asar toh hoga hi..." she said.
"Hmm... and your family... Ghar vale kahan hain?" he asked.
"Ghar..." she looked at him wide eyed, for a moment he thought that she was scared, and lost. Just for a moment, he found himself in-front of her naked soul, just for a moment.
