Yeh Hai Mohabbatein : Ishita Main Hoon Na Tumhare Saath' (Episode Analysis)

They say that only a Man can protect a Woman. I say it's not true. One does not know why such a misconception is blindly believed when the reality is almost always just the opposite. Yes there are exceptions and when so it does make a lot of a difference.

We all know that one of the reasons Yeh Hai Mohabbatein is this popular amongst masses is due to the realistic approach the show follows. Though a fictional show and one that is quite prominent the simple logic and almost flawless execution of the sequences, the tracks etc is what makes Yeh Hai Mohabbatein class apart.

What happened to Ishita is something that could happen to any girl/woman out there. Yes, it is unacceptable and makes your blood boil with rage at even the thought of it; but unfortunately it's one of the harsh realities of life that almost 95% of the time women are somehow subjected to such atrocities and humiliations.

Yes, YHM is no social drama but a fictional show purely for entertainment but when you can target both aspects and pull it off with ease then why not? If you have watched the sequence you'll realize that what was shown was siding more towards the entertainment quotient.

When news about Ishita attending Shagun's bachelorette party came out didn't it make you wonder why in the world would she attend the same? While it's still quite impossible to comprehend the reason behind the Bhalla's and Iyer's being a part of on-going Wedding Drama one can still argue that it's Shagun's relationship with Mihir and Ruhi that makes it uneasy for the formers to make a clean cut and keep away from the functions. But why would Ishita attend Shagun's party? Is Agar tum nahi aayi toh main samjhoongi tumne Adi ko maaf nahi kiya' reason enough for Ishita to attend the party? Clearly NO, but by bringing in this twisted twist the creative team more than justifies the entertainment aspect of it.

Param and Suraj plan to trap Ishita and humiliate her thereby making that the Star Attraction' of Ashok's bachelor party and they pull it off really well. They send the wrong time to Abhimanyu, somehow trick Mihir and Bala to leave the venue and get ready to pounce on their prey when she makes an entry. The incident was done mighty impressively and what stood out was the acting by the cast and the way it was executed. The makers did not resort to showcasing extreme things rather they acted on the fact that even looking at the victim aka Ishita with lusty eyes, making her feel cheap and causing her mental trauma is EQUALLY torturous for a woman.

For a change it was nice to see Raman still call Ishita to find out what she was doing without going into the party hall, especially when he had just assumed that his wife might be sitting outside of the venue with Vandu. It does not take Raman much time to deduce where Ishita was and he rushes to get to her. On reaching the spot Raman literally thrashes the man who misbehaved with his wife and even promises Ashok that he better watch out. Yes, if Raman wanted he could have dealt with those scumbags but he knew better. He knew that Ishita needed his undivided attention and so he takes away her from the place.

The bitter experience with Shagun had made Raman to believe that women are only capable of deceit and treachery. But that never stopped Raman from fighting for the wrongs done to a woman. Raman has always stood up for Ishita so it was no surprise when he did the same this time too; only what makes this one stand apart from the previous ones are that earlier Ishita was just Ruhi's mother and the sense of responsibility to protect her majorly came from that fact. However she is no longer just the mother of his child or the Bhalla bahu; today dil se Raman has accepted Ishu as his wife and has also fallen in love with her and that makes a huge difference.

When a man truly stands up for the dignity of a woman, to protect her, to fight for her it makes him honorable; and if that man turns out to be your life-partner it would only make him all the more special. Well who wouldn't want such a man in their life?

The way Raman handled Ishita was truly remarkable and there is no doubt that he has come a long way from how he had handled similar situations in the past (Remember the Param incident). After Raman gets a grip on himself the first thing he does is put his arm around Ishu by looking into the eyes of the culprits. The act symbolizes acceptance, protectiveness and promise that he would never let anything or anyone disgrace her.

Then he walks away with Ishita, tries to calm her, and even asks her to get a grip on herself in a stern voice which was completely needed as she refused to let him go and get water due to the aftermath of what had happened; and Raman knew that jolting her out of that fear is the only way to go. Raman knows that his Jhansi Ki Rani is a very strong woman and if she was this affected it only meant what had happened shook her to the very core and during such moments what a person needs most is assurance- An assurance that she was not alone, that he is with her which Raman kept repeating time and again to give her that comfort she seeked.

Raman then tells and asks Ishu Ek kaam kare, hum ghar chale? Because he knew that at this point Ishu would want to be in a place where she'd feel safe and what better than their own home? We see Ishu immediately agree to Raman's suggestion and they walk towards their Safe Haven.

While that was the entertainment part of the sequence, it's great to see a show like YHM is using it's popularity to also spread a sort of awareness. Belonging to the elite society, having a stable bank-balance and good education is necessarily not a criteria that makes a person qualify as someone with class. A good upbringing, good values are a real must and it's great to see such blind perceptions are being openly challenged and the harsh reality about them being shown. These days anybody can send messages and an other instance in the episode clearly focused on being alert and attentive, two qualities that can help to not fall into traps easily. Ishita herself admits that she forgot to reconfirm with Mihika the party venue. Had Ishu done that she would have been spared of this mishap.

Though frustrating and emotionally draining the episode was wonderfully handled and delivered. Divyanka, Karan, Sangram and Anurag did full justice to their parts and there is not a moment in the episode where one does not feel the emotions that the creative and writing team tries to stir within the audience; and that makes for a successful story -telling.

Signing off with a hope that there is more to this and everybody pays the price for the humiliation meted out to Ishita.
